One Bullet Away by Nate Fick is hands down the best book I've read in years. It's about Operation Iraqi Freedom, written by Nate about his time serving with the First Marines, from the time he got commissioned, to the time he retired. The first half of the book it so is about his time in officer training and what that was like.
The interesting part about it is it shows how awful everything wad and how frustratingly ass-backwards wars can be for the people actually fighting them, instead of trying to glorify it. Plus, Nate gives a really interesting perspective himself, given that the only reason he dropped out of Dartmouth was because it wasn't challenging enough.
Definitely highly recommend it! And, if you're into that kind of thing, Nate himself did an abridged audiobook version that's really great too.
