Motorcycle chains aren't good locks at all sadly.
I was kicked out of secondary school and hung around with some reprobates, so I've some first hand observations on this matter. I'd only ever use D-Locks. I'd use a very good one for the rear wheel, always locking through both the frame, and the wheel itself. Locking it in a manner that makes it impossible to get any kind of crow bar in between the lock itself, and the U ring, without smushing the frame and wheel. The more high end theifs use a bottle jack, you can get them on special offer for £5 from B&Q, so who cares if you break them every few thefts. They will then use a strong bit of metal, such as a crow bar, and make it so that it's pinned against the lock and the ring. Then it's simply a matter of jacking it until it bursts, this can be done in seconds. Some locks have safegards against this.
As such, I'd really recommend getting a good quality lock, from a brand that it is obvious. Then a fairly cheap one for the front wheel. Even when I was using RS10s, which are overpriced at about £100 per wheel, no one bothered to break my on-guard bulldog mini D lock, it's only £15 on amazon! because it's simply too much effort. One good quality heavy lock, and a lighter, cheaper one for the front wheel! I know some people suggest not to have two locks of the same kind, because "theifs have to carry two sets of tools", this is just dumb. One good set of bolt cutters will not only cut more wire locks, but some cheap Ds too, or even just act as a leaver for a chain lock. Ds are the only worthwhile locks.
