Right now I'm using Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard (Vanilla). I'm liking it so far and it came up highly recommended on all the searches I did regarding whey protein powder.
Used to use a plant based protein powder from orgain and it tasted like absolute shit so i ended up switching to this one for flavor.
I've only tried vanilla and it tastes as good as protein powder can. It's going to run you about $57 but this is the 5lb container. If you want the 2lb container, its about $30 but its a bit more expensive per ounce if you boil it down to the basics.
I use it mainly because it comes with BCAAs & Glutamine and typically add it to my liquid egg whites so they aren't as bad. 1 cup egg whites + a scoop of this gets me around 50-60g protein. I haven't measured so it could be off but its definitely above 50.
Buy a quality protein powder. I use https://www.amazon.com/OPTIMUM-NUTRITION-STANDARD-Naturally-Flavored/dp/B00QQA0H3S. It's $57 for 5 pounds, but that gets you 68 servings. You use a little less than a serving and make it stretch if you really wanted to. You can find cheaper powders, but this one works for me
Buy frozen fruit and frozen spinach. Or cut up and freeze your own.
Protein powder + fruit + greens + water/almond milk and you have yourself a great recovery protein shake.
Dump the energize completely and see how you feel after a couple of weeks. You could always save what you have for before 5Ks, or if you really need it one day. I add flax seed and chia seeds to my shake as well.
optimum nutrition good standard %100 whey is what I decided on after a lot of comparison. I find Amazon the best place to get it, Costco carries some of their products as well but not always this particular one.
If you get enough protein via other sources (like lean meats, nuts, etc) I don't think there'd be any benefit. If you're like me and sometimes have a lacking diet, I think that: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QQA0H3S?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00 is convenient and taste pretty good (in almond milk).
I've found most of the ON proteins to be pretty palatable. Right now I like the Natural Vanilla. https://www.amazon.com/Optimum-Nutrition-Standard-Naturally-Flavored/dp/B00QQA0H3S?th=1
ON Gold standard is also another easy go to.
Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey
I use the subscribe and save feature and get it for $49.26 shipped. ~$10 a pound
Gets an A- rating on Labdoor
https://labdoor.com/rankings/protein
Wheyco isn't rated.
Optimum = 68 servings of 24g of protein for $49 shipped Wheyco = 31 servings of ~28g of protein for $45 shipped
Easy choice, but damn protein is getting expensive. Every once in a while Costco sells 5lbs tubs of Musclepharm Protein for $35 and I buy a bunch of them.
