What?! I’ve been taking this product for months with no issues. Why would a company like ON do this if it was harmful?

> it's hard to get consistent sleep.
It's hard to perform any skilled task well when your body is completely exhausted.
There are a few things that could help. First, when I'm on a weird sleep schedule, I've found that spending 10 minutes stretching every morning does wonders for my energy levels. It's like the tiredness gets locked up in my hamstrings and lumbar region. Second, taking something like ZMA before sleeping has definitely enhanced the quality of my sleep. Third, get an eye mask and some sort of white noise to ensure you can sleep more soundly.
I take Optimum Nutrition brand ZMA before bed. Works great for me. This stuff:
If you've been taking magnesium oxide, that could be the source of your stomach woes. I made that mistake when I first started. Was taking 400mg a day of magnesium oxide and wondering why I had diarrhea for a month.
I use this, it's called ZMA and there's a couple things in it. Amazing stuff, I noticed a difference right away. I've read you can buy them individually for cheaper, but this is nice to not have to take a ton of pills.
u/Lunar_Devil makes a great point. I'm currently using Optimum Nutrition's version of ZMA. It seems like a pretty straightforward formulation and I did a bit of research on it before buying...maybe I'm biased, but I tend to trust ON and their mission pretty well.
ZMA is a zinc and magnesium supplement, like this: [link]
Too little magnesium and you may not be able to go to the bathroom; too much and you won't be able to quit going. So, if you supplement it, start with a small amount and find what works for you.
Good luck at the doctor. Make sure they check your A1C and not just fasting glucose. My A1C was 5.9 before keto (honestly, probably higher at some point but I almost never went to the doctor) and is now 4.5. Stable blood sugar is a wonderful thing.
you want ZMA - zinc, magnesium, b6 = very common sleep aid
ZMA is zinc, magnesium, and b6. I searched amazon for ZMA and here are the top 3 results ON, NOW, met-rx. None of them have melatonin.
I was going to post this. ZMA is almost a requirement for me now that I roll late on weekdays. If you care at all, this is the one that I use: [link]. Or if you prefer Amazon: [link]. Non-habit forming.
Here's some writeups:
ZMA is recommended over at /r/ketogains
I’ve found zinc supplements to be very effective.
This stuff worked for me. It's a pretty common supplement among fitness buffs. The brand doesn't matter if you can find something local at a pharmacy.
Idk if this sub autremoves links but here: https://www.amazon.com/NUTRITION-Recovery-Endurance-Supplement-Magnesium/dp/B000GIQS02/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=ZMA&qid=1610245930&sr=8-6
In ingredients it uses Zinc oxide and something for Mg, is it not good for vivid dreams anymore?
Ah so I didn't include link b/c idk if this sub autoremoves posts w/ links but here ya go [link]
Deal link: Amazon
so your saying I shouldn't of bought these?
Absolutely! Here you go :-)
I decided to not take any hormones or medications - I do take a lot of natural supplements tho. Since my hashi’s I’ve been taking a high variety probiotic (18 strains), high quality fish oil, collagen, a multivitamin and a product called ZMA (found on amazon )
I hope this is all helpful for you!!
Sure! ZMA is a combination of zinc, magnesium, and vitamin B6 that aids recovery and replenishes vitamins/minerals we may need more of on keto.
I take ZMA.
Such as this? :
This is the ZMA supplement I use. I was doing 1 pill a day but I started getting a metallic taste in my mouth so dropped it to every other day. It can cause vivid dreams/nightmares.
The progesterone cream I use. It did cause increased appetite, water retention, and a mild increase in acne. I'm managing all 3 pretty well by sticking to 100g or less of carbs per day and no more than 20g of those from sugar. Cutting sugar and processed carbs/white bread in and of itself can also do wonders in managing symptoms!
I use Lite Salt all day long and take this ZMA: [link]
That's the one I use. Optimum Nutrition ZMA, 180 Capsules [link]
On Amazon, it's the cheapest. 180 pills for ~$19 vs $22+ for most others
I have recently skipped the multi vites, as I have been getting enough of most vitamins through my diet. I do take ZMA before bed. I do take a Mag pill and a Potassium pill with breakfast and lunch. I have noticed I get fewer cramps when I take these.
As far as my sodium in concerned, I get 4 grams in my food alone before I salt the crap out of every meal. I also add Nu Salt to my meals.
Have you read your bottle's suggested use? I take three ON ZMA per night as a male and a female should take two per night.

Hey man! I was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder around 16 (I'm 27 now), which is apparently on the spectrum. Somewhere around 21 or 22 all these autistic symptoms started cropping up left and right. I started needing to spend hours by myself and I'd have to stim like motherfucker just to be able to handle people again. I was always irritable though. Couldn't take sudden sensory stimuli, couldn't be touched without wigging out, yada yada.
As for memory, I couldn't remember anything anyone said to me unless they told me point by point and I pictured a list in my head. Emails would take me hours -- if not days -- to write. Never actually tried to end it, but I had a LOT of suicidal ideation.
I don't think porn caused all this because I only started speaking when I was like four or something, so there were obviously issues to begin with. Anyway it seems our issues may be similar.
I got rid of all these issues with a combination of zinc, glutamine, and nofap. I needed the zinc to be able to produce testosterone (apparently there's a correlation between autism and exposure to elevated levels of testosterone as a fetus and that fucks everything up). Combining nofap with zinc just increased the results like three- or four-fold (nofap doesn't actually do a whole lot for me without the zinc supplementation). I started the glutamine before nofap (and before zinc, I think), so I might not need it anymore, but it takes about a month to get in your system fully so I don't really want to risk going off it yet. If your noise sensitivity isn't too bad, then you might not need the glutamine.
I'd also suggest taking ZMA instead of just zinc. So start popping those pills (it'll take two weeks before your zinc levels are high enough to make a difference) and nofapping!
If you're interested in the glutamine as well, I take 2g/day, in the morning.
I really hope this works for you as well as it has worked for me. Stay strong, my fellow autist!
I hate to push supplements, but I currently use [link]
Generally, if you find something that works you stick to it. I am about to give [link] a try, it's about 5 dollars a bottle cheaper.
I am also looking at [link]. While it is more expensive for less per bottle, I am curious at the benefits of piperine. I might get a piperine/turmeric supplement and at it to my current ZMA regiment before bed.
You can also get bulk Zinc and magnesium. The most important thing is to find the "good"/most bioavailable form of supplements. Most cheapo supplements you get from your family dollar or Wal-mart are crap as far as bioavailability goes. Do your research. Spend more money to get supplements that actually work and not inert crap that you pee and crap out. Do your research, experiment, if you find something that works, keep using it.
I hate to push products on Reddit, but I currently use [link].
Try ZMA ( [link] ) It has worked WONDERS for me.
I currently take [link], but I am going to try [link], it's a little cheaper.
I currently use [link].
You have the internet at your fingertips. Just type something like bioavailability of magnesium. In fact, I spent the 10 seconds typing it in for you. Here.
The magnesium aspartate I take is considered to be one of the most bioavailable forms.
