It's not a standard screwdriver, you'll need a torx TR9 security screwdriver I believe, they are cheap. I have heard of people using small flat heads and having success but for best and easiest results get the torx. I clean my PS4 every 6 months it's a launch day console and still pretty quiet.
I bought this set for 15 bucks a few years ago love it comes in handy for electronics and small screws Amazon link.
I had success using the guide referenced here by u/BooB398, but honestly the majority of the dust buildup was along the side vents which I cleaned with Q-tips and did not require any disassembly. Also make sure you get the TR9 Torx Security bit if you are going to get in there (I ordered a kit on Amazon for like 14 bucks https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E16J6RQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
It may have gone up a little in price but it is still under $20.
ORIA Precision Screwdriver Kit, 60 in 1 with 56 Bits Screwdriver Set, Magnetic Driver Kit with Flexible Shaft, Extension Rod for Mobile Phone, Smartphone, Game Console, Tablet, PC, Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E16J6RQ/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_NWmiFbKMCY2AR
I’d guess it’s a T8 or T10 screw.
I’d recommend getting one of these kits. It’s got pretty much every small screw size you’d need.
OP, you did a great job making a tool for yourself!
If you don't already have a multi-bit screwdriver set, you can easily get one for about $15 -- that should be a good accompaniment to your other tools.
You'll want to angle the cutting angle of the blade to reduce the pressure on the knife edge. It'll make it easier to cut, and the blade will last longer.
This set works wonders, is the one I use ORIA Precision Screwdriver Kit, 60 in 1 with 56 Bits Screwdriver Set, Magnetic Driver Kit with Flexible Shaft, Extension Rod for Mobile Phone, Smartphone, Game Console, Tablet, PC, Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E16J6RQ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_PEQY74FHVEEDSKA85M67
I've got a couple sets of screwdrivers, something like this. No more problems finding the right electronics screwdriver ;-)
As a teen, I got my GBA (which uses triwing screws) open by finding a flathead screwdriver that fit in there. Not recommended; it's really easy to strip the screwhead, damage the screwdriver, and not be able to get the screw back in all the way.
There are methods involving melting something plastic (back of a pen, for example) and pressing it into the head, but that has the potential to be messy, damage the Wii's plastic...and still not work, if the head isn't open enough to make a good impression.
You will heed a J00 screwdriver bit. I used am ORIA set to remove my screws:
Different kits come with different screws. Something like this should cover most/all cases.
Something like this would get you by. I used a similar set for years before upgrading to an ifixit kit.
looks like a regular screw, just a very small one. but you should just get yourself one of these if you like fiddling a lot like I do, might as well get some tools to help.
I found a jewelers kit that fits.most of my needs. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E16J6RQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_2x74Fb1J5A9DC
A roll pin punch set, Hammer
long Allen keys metric and standard,
an adjustable wrench
needle nose pliers
a heat gun
soldering iron
Dremel kit
Channel locks
1/2"drive socket with an adapter to use the jeweler's kit bits.
Long neck Philips screw driver of a few sizes.
A scribe/ pick
Small sharp razor blades.
Airsoft tech pad.
Honestly, if I were to buy another precision set, I'd go with this that I just found on Amazon. But if you just want the one type of bit, the name of what you're looking for is Torx bits.

It is, it’s a fun little project. Good way to learn... just take your time. If u don’t have a good set of screw drivers to use I recently picked up this one. It’s low priced and made very well. Have fun.

Just get a set. They are under 10 bucks. If you want something a little better, have a look at this for under #20 --
ORIA Precision Screwdriver Kit
Bonus: If you know someone who works on electronics, this make for a great inexpensive Christmas git.
I have this one and it works great.
ORIA Precision Screwdriver Kit, 60 in 1 with 56 Bits Screwdriver Set, Magnetic Driver Kit with Flexible Shaft, Extension Rod for Mobile Phone, Smartphone, Game Console, Tablet, PC, Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E16J6RQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_LNfwFb4C2KFYG
I like this answer, you can get a set of 50+ different precision screwdrivers like this that have all torx sizes and any tool you ever need to open electronics
I know you're looking at ifixit, but I have this set from Amazon that I absolutely love.
Buy one, they're like $10 - 15 on Amazon for a nice set.
If you can't buy one go to a electronics store and ask if you can borrow one
I own this
ORIA Precision Screwdriver Kit, 60 in 1 with 56 Bits Screwdriver Set, Magnetic Driver Kit with Flexible Shaft, Extension Rod for Mobile Phone, Smartphone, Game Console, Tablet, PC, Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E16J6RQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_D11jEb0KMHHKX
I've used it to open and repair 3DS', Vita's, computers, as well as replace batteries in toys and the like. Aside from my Big Ass Screwdriver I use for automotive projects, it's been the most useful screwdriver I've owned. You could probably find something similar at the hardware store if you don't want to buy from Amazon.
You could buy a multi-tip screwdriver set either from amazon or from a hobby store, then find things that people have thrown away and take them apart, trying to understand how they work, trying to put them back together correctly, or just for the technical fun of dismantling stuff! At my university I often see printers, monitors, and other discarded things that are fun to take apart. Be very careful with any monitors though. Learn what a capacitor looks like, and make sure you never short the terminals of one!
I have this tool kit works well for teardown of small electronics but like others have said with a PC you'll really only use a Phillips screwdriver.
ORIA Precision Screwdriver Kit, 60 in 1 with 56 Bits Screwdriver Set, Magnetic Driver Kit with Flexible Shaft, Extension Rod for Mobile Phone, Smartphone, Game Console, Tablet, PC, Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E16J6RQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_PY5MDbR6F2XXD
This is the set that I use It comes with two different size triwing tips. I've used this to reshell my GameBoy Color, GBA and DS lite.
Buy something like this - https://www.amazon.com/ORIA-Screwdriver-Professional-Precision-Smartphone/dp/B01E16J6RQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1530070682&sr=8-2&keywords=oria+screwdriver
and never not have the right screwdriver for the job again.
(or an even nicer set)
Looks good but since you’ll be doing lots of processing I’d go with a ryzen 2700 build as it’s got better multi core performance and it comes with its own really good cooler. Also I’d just go down to Lowe’s or home depot and get you a good screwdriver and some philips Head bits for under 20 bucks instead of spending so much on an ifixit kit.
If you insist on getting a screwdriver kit, I’d go with ORIA Precision Screwdriver Set, 60 in 1 Magnetic Driver Kit as it’s got better grip, more bits, it extends and retracts, and costs a fraction of the prices.
You also probably don’t need That much wattage on your psu
I bought a blue kit from Amazon a few months back and it has really came in handy, iPhone, switch, PS4 controller. It’s usually around 11-15 dollars and it comes in a blue or orange color scheme.
Something like this
ORIA Screwdriver Set, Magnetic Driver Kit, Professional Repair Tool Kit, 60 in 1 with 54 Bits Precision Screwdriver Kit, Flexible Shaft, for iPhone 8, 8 Plus/ Smartphone/ Game Console/ Tablet/ PC, etc https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E16J6RQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_kscMAb2HB4TF1
I remember reading about that. Ironic that my Zeus is all jacked up right now with a grub screw that won't come out and I've tried everything. I ordered this from amazon today because I'm done with these shitty tools they send you: https://www.amazon.com/ORIA-Screwdriver-Professional-Precision-Smartphone/dp/B01E16J6RQ --- I've tried everything including 20 minutes in the ultrasonic, gorilla glue etc... I just got rubber bands a few minutes ago from the store which would be funny if that worked out of all the crazy stuff I tried.
The T3 is for grub screws and it should have the right fit for that too I would think.
I think it is...but just check the requirements for Adobe's system and OS requirements. The reason I went with hit film is that I'm still on Mavericks due to web development stuff that I really don't want to deal with if I upgrade to High Sierra.
Also, if you do choose this route get this (not only is it a necessity, it's really nicely made): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E16J6RQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I work in a computer repair shop. We found this set last year and I highly recommend it. The build quality is great, the screwdriver is extendable, and all the bits are magnetic. They saved money on the part the bits sit in being formed plastic but I have not found another tool set that can match it for price to quality!
Edit: For spelling and format.
I only have the screwdrivers to take the screws of the back casing off. To get to the hinges I assume I need different drivers. Do you think that this set would suffice?
Amazon sells a ton of sets like this for cheap. I keep one in my gun toolbox and one in the 'junk drawer'.
OWC has the kits, I went with separate purchases from Amazon.
I have no idea if Premier Pro will run smoothly, but Photoshop works well.
Here's all you'll need (screw driver set, ram, ssd, usb 3.0 to sata connector):

^ This.
I hate when people say things like what I am about to say but in this case it is true.
If you don't even have the tools to open the drive, this is not the project for you. Opening a hard drive yourself to recover data is a really terrible idea when you are talking about exposing the platters. There is a reason data recovery is so expensive and it isn't just because they have high profit margins.
In the event that there isn't any data on there that you care about and you want to give it a go as an academic exercise....that is a horse of a different color.
A T9 is actually pretty big. In my bag with me I have a kit that includes a T3 through T8 and it wouldn't surprise me at all if your drive required something in that range.
If you live near a Micro Center you can pick up something like this kit. It is quite usable.
http://www.microcenter.com/product/441261/54_bit_driver_kit
I actually have the Inland "ufixit" generic version from Micro for under $20 and it's really handy.

If you don't have a Micro Center nearby, try something like this on Amazon?

And absolutely. I use this kit all the time. All the heads are quality steel, I've never had a problem with it. Its the last screwdriver kit you will ever need.
Buy one of these, best investment for all electronics.

you can get something like this that has multiple sizes of the screw and just feel it out on which size to use
I'm at work atm so I couldn't tell you until later tonight.
A cheap repair kit such as this one will definately include the correct size though

This is nice to have around the home
I bought this precision screwdriver set 5 years ago, I still have all the bits and none of them are broken. I think it's a great cheap set if you don't want to spend a bunch of money on Wiha or some similar brand
I bought this hair trimmer set 3 years ago and it's still holding up well. There are certainly more durable clippers out there if you have to use them all the time, or if you use them for haircuts, but for occasional trimming I'm very happy with this one
I really like this OXO pepper mill that I've had for a couple years. It has a ceramic grinder mechanism and one of the easiest coarseness adjusters I've ever used.
This isn't so much a BIFL item as it is a part for a BIFL item, but some replacement gaskets for my '90s kitchenaid mixer. I regreased it with Super Lube synthetic grease and that'll last it for a good long time.
Finally, Storacell battery holders are made in the US and are one of my favorite organizational tools
This is the one I use. I haven't come across a screw that it didn't have a bit for.
I use this for a lot. Has a y tip.

Get your son a decent set of precision screwdrivers and bits. This is the #1 thing you can do to encourage him. I usually buy kids a set for their birthday at some point if they're inquisitive like this. That set will be their keys to the kingdom if you do it right.
Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E16J6RQ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_1Y0MEKNWRXFZ164XX02A
Or really whatever you can find or is in your price range.
In terms of tools, not much. I had a small set of screwdrivers like you'd use for building PCs (like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E16J6RQ/). I also had a load of PCB standoffs like these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y5TJXY1 which I used to mount the pi, usb hub and keyrah. To keep them in place I drilled a few holes in the bottom of the case, so that needed a drill and a small (2mm I think) drill bit.
I also got a sheet of thin metal sheet from a model shop and used that to make something like an ATX io shield for the back of the case. For that I just used a pair of scissors to cut it up. I have a 3D printer now and I'm thinking of replacing it because while it looks ok it's not very tidy.
To extend the pi ports I used things like https://amzn.com/dp/B0746C2FWL https://amzn.com/dp/B086YBP5VW and https://amzn.com/dp/B07C87FYLY to get the pi's ports to the exterior of the case.
In case anyone complains I butchered an A600, this thing was very dead when I bought it off ebay. It had been in someone's shed for years and was full of rust, water damage, and cobwebs. I ended up needing to buy a second keyboard because the first was utterly dead (membrane and a lot of the springs had corroded to the point where they they fell apart when you compressed them).
Any cross-head screws in the Motile are JIS head. The Reddit Motile message thread https://www.reddit.com/r/motile/comments/gb3xz5/another_screw_removal_issue/ describes the "ORIA Precision Screwdriver Kit, 60 in 1 with 56 Bits Screwdriver Set" (Amazon B01E16J6RQ. $17) that includes "JIS sizes: 000, 00, 0, 1", which are perfect for working on a laptop. Trying to use a Phillips screwdriver on a JIS screw will just destroy the head.
I just used one from a tool set that came from Ikea, but I have also used this one for other uses: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E16J6RQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've just found one unresponsive key on my build and was confronted with this issue.
What I've took is the smaller flat head screwdriver tip of one of those kits:
https://www.amazon.com/ORIA-Screwdriver-Professional-Precision-Smartphone/dp/B01E16J6RQ/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=screwdriver+kit&qid=1610396054&sr=8-5
And made a lever from the bottom of the switch. Thankfully the PCB was OK, a bent pin was the issue, which I've easily straightened out and reinserted.
Thanks! The kit is just some generic one off of Amazon. I'd definitely recommend it I've been using it for years. Here's the newer one
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E16J6RQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_1V2XDbDHRJKVW
This is the kit I use. I highly reccomend it as having magnetic tips is a godsend and just having multiple sizes it general makes it so you don't strip the screws.
Would go get a cheaper screwdriver kit off of amazon.
Sure! My bf has this kit from Amazon for his computer building, but the size 2.5mm chisel tip works perfectly with the Chanel hardware! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E16J6RQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It’s like $15 on Amazon
I used this toolkit for the install: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E16J6RQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Just get this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E16J6RQ?psc=1
You'll have all to tools you need to access electronic screws.
