What is Reddit's opinion of Orion 8829 38mm Q70 Wide-Field Telescope Eyepiece?

Under ~25mm you can get away with 1.25" eyepieces perfectly well. They are often cheaper. Some dual-barrel eyepieces exist, but for way too much what it's worth.

• Planets, Depending on your budget,

  • the 6mm 66° for <=$30
  • or the ES82.
  • IF seeing is good, a decent 4mm 1 can be amazing. But it will work only on a few nights.
  • Good Zoom + good barlow can work, but otherwise dedicated eyepieces are the way to go. I often recommend the $20-$30 gold-lines as you get a feeling for everything, and can always upgrade. While the cheap eyepiece is still great to have in case you have kids over or grown ups that touch your eyepiece. You don't want that with your $200+ high end eyepiece :)

• In-between: Over 10mm Plössl can work. A 15mm gold-line isn't overly great but still works fine in F/6 telescopes. ~$20, $30 at Amazon (The 6mm isn't available there anymore but the other focal lengths)
