Welles used quite a bit of forced perspective photography for the scenes involving Oja Kadar walking around in the desert for the "film within a film" portion of TOSOTW.
There's a great book that chronicles the making of the film: Orson's Last Movie: The Making of the Other Side of the Wind by Josh Karp. I'd highly recommend checking it out.
