I know that around August is the mating season for Hobo spiders, they're really big/thick/poisonous ultimate gross spiders. The males are wandering a bunch trying to find females so that's why more of them will be found in houses. Dear God I hate those things.

Edit: I use this stuff and spray it outside in spider-y areas, it works pretty well in my experience.
