I bought a pack of electronic components used (similar to this from Amazon ). Also wherever I buy components from places Tayda and Mouser, I buy way more than I need like 20 pieces of 2N5088 when I only need 2-3 or 5 100KA potentiometers when I only need one. Gives me tons of spare parts. And sometimes ordering larger quantities (bulk) results in discounts.
Personally I recommend doing a kit first from a place like BYOC to get an idea of what parts are needed to make a pedal.
I hadnt heard of a 1390 kit before, thanks for the heads up! So, something like this?

Ooh, my power just went out. I heard a pop. Blewn transformer or something? Anyways I bought a small kit of various electronics components from Amazon that includes capacitors and resistors, etc. But I do mechanical engineering work for a living. I don't know how well that kit I got would help with my more indoor, stand up air conditioner with a heat venting tube. I mean I decided to get a kit because I've done electronics projects. I converted a bicycle to run off of electricity. I should be able to replace a cap. Yeah, I get the impression that many other common dumpster electronics were victim of one or two bad caps.
