So scary!!! Have you thought of getting her a slow-feed bowl? I got one for my boy when he was a puppy and it really helped him slow down while eating and stop choking on his kibbles.
That's the one that I got my pug. (Sorry the link is Canadian Amazon lol).
Try a slow feeder
Get a slow feeder. Bloat is a very painful snd serious problem. Here’s an example: Outward Hound Fun Feeder Slo Bowl - Slow Feeder Dog Bowl https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00L3O4JI6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_T3ZYKPE7NJCKP606Q20G?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I'm so sorry to hear about your pup and I hope he's ok. Sending healing vibes your way!
We're getting a St Bernard-Poodle-Bernese next week so I've been reading about bloat/GDV. We got our pup a slow feeder (on Amazon) and the biggest Kong we could find which we plan on feeding him from for as long as possible to slow down the eating process.
I had a whippet that did this. We started by getting one of those "maze bowls" (here's one on Amazon). This will slow him down and he'll inhale less air.
Now, the farting frequency will likely decrease but if it's still clear-the-room stinky when he does fart, then that's related to what he's eating. If you try switching from his current food to something new (i.e. chicken to lamb), you want to do it gradually - give him a few days of 75 old/25 new food, then 50/50 then 25/75, then 100% new food.
My pup did the same until we got him a slow feeder bowl. This is the exact one I have and it worked wonders for my lab.
It's not necessarily aggression (it doesn't seem like people food aggression at all; might be different if another dog was around), but you really don't want him eating that fast anyways. It could lead to digestive issues/possibly even contribute to bloat (not too sure on the bloat, but I've seen it claimed plenty of times).
Get a slow feeder bowl, such as this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L3O4JI6/ref=asc_df_B00L3O4JI65140595/?tag=hyprod-20&creative=394997&creativeASIN=B00L3O4JI6&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167141013968&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=748921194058616413&hvpone=&hvpt...
I find relying on the grip of the dish is not a reliable since it can get dusty and lose friction easily. You could also try a slow feeder (link) as these are pretty much impossible to spill over even if he tries to put his paws in them.
use this guy. It slows down feeding time so they don't inhale their food which causes digestive issues.
Are you feeding him in a bowl, or a way, so that he eats more slowly? We use a combination of things for this: first, the bowls are elevated and they're the ones like this. I also have a hollow, rubber globe/ball that has a hole in it i fill with food, along with a kong, in which I fill with food. It amuses her (and us) to watch her eat. And she is extremely food-motivated so she'd eat all her food in 10 seconds otherwise. The other thing you may think about is if there's any activity that you all do, or do with him, which coincides with the one month periodic problem. Eg, we have 'steak night' once a month and I was giving her the T-bone, which she threw up the next night.
I vote yes! My shiba used to finish half cup of dry kibble in a few minutes when served in a regular bowl. While he never regurgitated after eating, I noticed he'd occasionally get hiccups after meals. I bought this from Amazon and it has extended his eat time by at least 5 times and I haven't observed any hiccups since. I wash the bowl every 3-5 days.
Yeah I don't think they really grow out of it. Get the slow feed bowl. Amazon (below) It really is serious once they get older. They can get bloat and die quickly. Ours is more prone for it because of her breed. And DO NOT do elevated bowls. That's not good either for bloat.
I got this (the large size) for my dog because he vacuums up food. It would be gone in 30 seconds and I was so worried about bloat. Now it takes him a good 3-4 minutes to eat which is amazing considering how quickly he can inhale food. But I like that he has to work a bit for his food. They have to move around the bowl, lick in different spots, nudge the kibble with their nose, etc. Just watch and make sure they don't get frustrated and paw at the bowl or tip it over, haha. Ours did that once and I just picked up the bowl and took it away, then gave it back, and he hasn't pawed at it since.
Kongs stuffed with goodies are also fun, frozen makes it even more challenging. Sometimes I put half of my dog's dinner in a kong with some peanut butter and it'll take him 20 or so minutes to get through it, and then he's usually exhausted and passes out like we just went for a run!
Get one of those maze bowls they work great

Another good choice. Shaped like an egg carton so the gaps are spaced out and can make it easier for flatter faced pups to use.

I love what this redditter posted above ^^^^
Walks - I have a mostly (37% American Staffordshire Terrier. She gets two walks a day. Or 1 walk and 1 treadmill session. It’s still too hot to walk without booties here. So she gets her afternoon walks via treadmill. I use this one: https://images.app.goo.gl/evHRUqK1XDrdwKmW9
For mental stability while feeding: Outward Hound Fun Feeder Slo... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L3O4JI6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share. This has really helped with mental stimulation. Love this dog pan.
1 One other exercise we do for mental stimulation is a muffin pan, training treats, and tennis balls. Place a treat in one of the muffin pans. Cover all of the pans with tennis balls. Have your dog sniff out the treat, pick up the tennis ball and eat the treat. I do this for 10-15 minutes twice a day.
I also do two, 10-15 minute training sessions twice a day. I get my treat bag out and have my doggies do service dog tasks/obedience tasks for about 10-15 minutes. It keeps her sharp mentally and teaches her to keep her focus on me.
My pup is a wild banshee, she’s still under 2 years old and my regiment keeps her entertained and healthy.
One other thing I’ve found that helps with baths and nail trimming : EAVPORT Dog Lick Pad, Peanut... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08HSKHVKN?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
These are a lifesaver. You can suction it on to your bath tub and have them lick up peanut butter while you groom, bathe or brush. It turns any unpleasant experience into a positive experience. It’s really a mental exercise as well.
Dm me if you have any other questions.
Best of luck!!
For mental stimulation I use a biscuit pan, tennis balls, and treats. I do this a couple of times a day.
Place a treat in one of the holes. Cover all of the holes with tennis balls then put the pan on the floor and let your boy sniff out the treat.
You may have to show him the first couple of times until he learns to move the tennis balls.

I also recently switched my dogs food bowl to this: Outward Hound Fun Feeder Slo... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L3O4JI6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I like the new bowl. It makes them work a little bit for the food.
This one may be a little extreme, but I have done this in the past. I bought a wagon and “walked” my dog in the wagon a couple of times a day. It’s a good way to break of the monotony of being in a crate all day.
And get him a slow feeder so he eats more slowly, like this one. feeder](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L3O4JI6/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_glt_fabc_WYK3VNV68VH2DHEQ88QB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
)
Dog Games Outward Hound Fun Feeder Mini Drop Teal https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L3O4JI6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_YoA8CbDGHCK4K
Amazon has several different ones, this one works great!
Could you get some sort of slow feeder that you then put the food in and froze? That would definitely hold a full meal although he may have more difficulty moving it around.
Another option might be squishy silicone bowls assuming you aren't leaving him unattended in case he decides to chew the bowl also.
I bought one of these and one of these. Hopefully she gets the flip board. She only likes toys that are food related so I want more enrichment for her.
I was thinking of getting her one of these treat balls for her food too.
She eats soooo fast and then she burps so I am getting worried about it! I have been trying 3x a day.
Ours did much better with taste of the wild and a slow eat bowl!!
