In my opinion, if you paid $3K for that little workbench and additions, you've lost your mind.
What do you have there really? A whole 8 sq.ft. of work space if you clear everything off? How can you sit back and be ok with that for $3K? My workbench is probably more than twice that length at 9' and deeper as well. It's made of birch hardwood with steel legs and if given some moderate care will outlive me. I probably have about $700 in that workbench. I'm all pegboarded out as well. You got a monitor up but in spending $3K you still don't have anything hooked up to it?? And what are you going to spend on a Mac mini, another $800? I snagged an aging gaming PC off of Craigslist for $120 which will handle YouTube and whatever other garage shit I throw at it quite easily. Snagged a 1080 ultrawide monitor on there for super cheap as well and mounted it on a VESA swivel mount. Your lighting is truly terrible. You have one light bar going across the top? Even in the video thumbnail you can see all the shadows being cast in that dimly lit area. Do yourself a favor and grab some of these. They'll make your garage as bright as the surface of the Sun and you'll never think about lighting again.
I'm not OP and I don't know what lights he/she used but I can tell you which LED lighting I used for a lot cheaper.

These will make your garage bright af. I put them in my old garage a couple years ago. When we moved it was the first change I made to the new garage. I love them.
My garage (which is not ideal but I couldn't figure out how to wire bright lights to the og light sockets):
1) Kasa smart light switch in the garage next to the door. 2) Kasa smart outlet plugged into the ceiling outlets next to the garage doors. 3) Bright led lights plugged into the smart outlets. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DNPL2VC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) 4) Ring motion sensor.
When I click the smart switch, the bright led lights that are plugged into the smart outlets turn on/off.
Also using home assistant, anytime after sunset, when motion is detected in the garage, smart switch (and hence outlets) turn on. Then wait 3 mins, turn all lights off. This 3 mins is enough time to pull my car into the garage, get out of the car, unload the trunk. Or if someone breaks in (which happened 2 years ago), the lights all turn on automatically and should scare anyone away. I could also use the switch to turn everything off too.
If you know how to wire the led lights directly into the existing sockets, then you can skip the smart outlets which would have been ideal.
I'll try to get a pic later and add it. But it's similar to what Reed of Smart Home solver did on his YouTube channel.
The dust and having to bend over all the time was miserable. I took many breaks out in the hall just to stand up straight. And when I washed up after I was done each night, my snot was black!
I thought about using all 8 lights, but 6 is plenty for this space. I'm planning to mount the other two in the east attic over the AC units so there's good light in there. If these lights hold up over time, I would strongly recommend them. They're kind of cheap and flimsy-feeling, but they do the job and they came with an absolute hogs head of different wires... 7 wires for daisy-chaining them together, 2 pigtails for hard wiring, and 4 switched wires with two-prong plugs. They also came with short rigid connectors for connecting the tubes end-to-end in a single piece.
So I just got these shop lights and shelf but wondering about placement and if I should do more. I got these lights from Amazon, (Pack of 8) Barrina LED T5... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DNPL2VC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Should I add another bar to each shelf(16”D x 36”L) instead of just one and are the lights too close to my succulents. I wouldn’t want to burn them. Any advice will help! Thanks!
The lights you are using are overkill - they are too bright, too many watts, and keeping them enclosed on top of that is making it too hot. Most microgreens only need a little light once they’re a couple inches tall and then you take the cover off and the light just greens them up over the next few days. (Some of them don’t even require anything but the daylight they receive once you take the top off., that’s how little light they need). I use these. There are 8 in the pack so they’re only about $6.50 each.
I have used these quite a few times. They're fantastic. Easy to install, super light weight, great light output for the price. However, they emit a frequency that can block you garage door opener signal when they're on. It's not a huge problem for me, but I know that it bothers others.
Grow lights, fam. I use these T5 LED shop lights from Amazon.
They weigh almost nothing, you can prop them upright in corners or mount them to a wall with basically just double sided sticky tape or a small hook. Plants do so much better with the extra lumens in the winter. Plus the extra light helps keep you from getting depressed, too.
For even less daily fuss you can plug them into a cheap timer. Those are available all over the place this time of year for xmas lights etc.
Mine is very much a hobby workshop, not professional at all. That being said:
Good luck and have fun!
These daisy chain together and have a switch on the plug

Hi there! Also in Southern PA. Indoors is best except for sempervivums which do grow outdoors in our zone (and actually don't thrive very well indoors).
I'm also a fan of the ones you are, and I'll admit, you'll probably need some good grow lights. Otherwise they'll stretch (mine absolutely did even in a south facing window) and won't really bring out those strong stress colors if that's what you're looking for. But to keep them compact and not stretched, you'll definitely need a 6500kw rated light to keep em nice and happy. These are the ones I bought -- they sell them in smaller packs of 4 and 6 I believe. On sunny days you can bring them outside for a bit at a time through the summer. I started with 30m at around 9am and increased it about 10m every week -- but since getting the lights I'm just leaving mine indoors.
Bit of a tangential point, but thought you might possibly appreciate it: LED shop lights are super cheap and easy to install, and make a huge difference in light quality vs. just a couple light bulbs. I bought this 8 pack on Amazon, but there are a ton of other options, and 6 or 4 would still also be a big improvement.
Thanks for the tip in the door opener. I’ll look into that but likely used what I got until it breaks.
Most of my lighting comes from LED light tubes that are mounted to the top of the rafters. I got them on Amazon. Super cheap. Hope they last.

I have these from Amazon, I got a six pack and an eight pack. They aren’t as bright per light as the Brain lights but the quantity more than makes up for it. I used them for lighting in the garage. The Braun lights have their place though.
I've read through on the growlight thread and have selected this to use as a grow light for this winter:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DNPL2VC
If I use several in close proximity, with the lights being a few inches off from the plants, will this be sufficient as an exclusive light source for high-light plants? Or should they be used as supplemental light to window light?
Have you thought about LEDs? They are a lot cooler and my tomato seedlings grew right around them without burning.
I got these exact ones for my starter shelf
(Pack of 8) Barrina LED T5... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DNPL2VC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
The tomatoes started to flower but I didn't keep them inside long enough to see if they could actually grow fruit
Also they are 4' long and your shelf is 3'.
Edit: depending on seedlings you can leave the lights on for 24hours but some need a day/night cycle. I used 16hours for all my seedlings.
T5 vs. T8 doesn't matter too much. T5 has a higher output and more efficient in a more compact bulb but also runs hotter. When I was looking it seemed like T5 has better options for indoor gardening (but were pricey). T8 are cheaper but that may change with increased popularity of T5.
I'm going to do some copy/paste from Wikipedia for this.

>Direct sunlight has a luminous efficacy of about 93 lumens per watt of radiant flux. Multiplying the figure of 1050 watts per square metre by 93 lumens per watt indicates that bright sunlight provides an illuminance of approximately 98 000 lux (lumens per square meter)

The important number here is that 98000 lumens per square meter.

So lets take a LED light from Amazon that makes 2200 lumens each. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DNPL2VC/ref=cm\_sw\_em\_r\_mt\_dp\_U\_Me4WCbEJ31RRE

To get the same amount of light as the sun in a square meter you'd need 45 (98000/2200) of these LED lights. This is over simplified since LED light doesn't exactly mimic the sun but you get the idea.

These lights from Amazon are about an inch wide and for arguments sake a meter long (actually a little longer). A meter is 39 inches long so you couldn't even fit 45 of these in a row to mimic the sun.

(Note to self I need more lights in my indoor greenhouse.)
I just installed these, they are cheap easy and provide awesome light.

Yes, 4x 8' for $106 vs 8x 4' for $55 - both ETL listed - no brainer to go w/ the Barrinas.

How's the lighting? The Barrina lights LED Lights are pretty popular, I have them and like them for the cost. I attached them to smart switches and turn them on/off with voice. You just plug them into outlets/power strip so you don't need to do any wiring which is nice.
Do you have a slope in your garage? I've made everything face the back wall and not the side walls because the slope drove me crazy
Is the garage door insulated? I installed foam insulation which seems to help.
I used similar dumbbells with the spinning lock for years and they drove me up the damn wall, so I broke the bank and bought a set of dumbbells, but you might want to consider power blocks depending on how much it aggravates you to change the weights.
Can you get safety spotter arms or something for the stand? That'd go a long way to making it safer
I'm not sure if I should suggest replacing the collars with something better (I like the rogue hg 2.0 cause magnets) or to not use collars at all since you don't have safeties yet.
Maybe use some of the open floor space for a large yoga mat for stretching/bodyweight stuff?
6500k
Heres the amazon link, i saw them recommended here a while back:
Not in EU but I grow micro greens under these (Pack of 8) Barrina LED T5... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DNPL2VC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share .
What are you growing?
I have these in my garage, they're incredibly bright, would recommend.
https://www.amazon.com/Barrina-Integrated-Fixture-Utility-Electric/dp/B07DNPL2VC
I use the Barrina t5s that I bought on Amazon
I just went through this. The biggest thing I learned was how many lumens (how much brightness) I needed. For a 1.5 car garage space with high ceilings and (dark) barn wood walls, I found that 12 LED strips each 48" long and about 2000 lumens each was enough.
I used these ones: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DNPL2VC/ I rolled the dice and got them used. No issues.
I have a metal shop shelf with 48 inch long shelves. The lights can get a bit warm, which is why I went with the meral shelf. Depending on what plants are on each shelf, I have:
between 1-3 of these Barrina t5 bulbs (with the plastic covers removed which was a pain in the butt) barrina t5 shop lights
1 of the Barrina grow light versions on each shelf barrina t5 grow lights
I have had these lights for over a year now. So far, absolutely worth the investment!
I should mention that I use the kasa smart outlet strip to control the timing of all of the lights. I am too forgetful to not have some smart device help!
Thanks, yea they're great lights. Fairly cheap and they throw tons of light!
Thank you! I keep these lights on for 14 hrs and have them ~2 inches away from the tops of these moonstones. I keep them ~3-4 inches away for the babies.
This is what I did, but it isn't really a recommendation as I am only satisfied with it, but not happy.
My office was lit by indirect cove lighting along 1 wall it is 16' long and 10' wide. It had (2) single bulb 8 foot florescent bulbs. I ordered these link together LEDs to replace them when the ballast went out on one. 2 rows were not quite enough to equal the light coming out of them and 3 is a bit more. I also wanted a whiter light, and it really is. I am not sure if they are dimmable as I don't have a dimmer. Since they are hidden behind a cove I made a 45 degree angle brackets to point them toward the middle of the room. They are mounted about a half inch apart. I then added a strip like this ZigBee RGB strip that my wife got on clearance at Lowes for cheap. I mounted it on the same bracket. I use the regular light switch to control the white lights, and the RGB strip is hardwired without a switch. My night routine turns on the RGB strip as a night accent light. Of course you can't see them if the white LEDs are on.
I use a set like this in my garage and they work very very well.
https://www.amazon.com/Barrina-Integrated-Fixture-Utility-Electric/dp/B07DNPL2VC
It's a combination of
And
With the speed that LED technology is improving I am sure there are better options, but I like the form factor.
Only two small windows in the basement and this picture was taken at 11:30pm.
Got these on Amazon in March and have been very happy with them. If you check my post history I know I put up before/afters when I installed them initially. Probably could've gotten away with less fixture density but really like having it bright. Thinking about getting another set for the other half of the space where our cardio equipment is.

Super easy to install, and bright as heck.
