“And I do not know how nationhood is achieved except by armed men; I do not know how nationhood is guarded except by armed men”, Pádraic Pearce, ‘Robert Emmet and the Ireland of today’. I cannot find full article online, (surprised). This article I read in following book - https://www.amazon.com/Padraic-Pearse-Collected-Works/dp/B08JJ7JZST/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=34UYSZ2RPNG1L&keywords=the+writing+of+padraig+pearse&qid=1647979283&sprefix=the+writing+of+padraig+pearse%2Caps%2C182&sr=8-1 . Highly recommend in general but good specifically on the topic of arming the masses, Pearce on multiple occasions, drawing on the traditional demands of rebels for arms, calls for the nation to be armed and remain armed. I have more free time tomorrow and can dig through my notes and find the articles and hopefully get you free links to read them online, if you wish.
