Anxiety is tricky. Sometimes we have triggers for it, other times we don’t. When I had really bad anxiety at night, I began to DREAD bed time, so the anticipation would bring on the anxiety until I learned how to cope with it and got out of my panic cycle. Maybe something similar for you too.
If you’re looking for good resource material, this book SAVED ME. It helped me understand my anxiety a lot better and gave me a different perspective of what was going on for me everyday.

As someone who is working through panic attacks myself, try this book: Panic Attacks Workbook: A Guided Program for Beating the Panic Trick https://www.amazon.com/dp/1569754152/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_fX8KFbVCCG8AF. I feel like I’ve made more progress after using this book in a few months than I have in years. His methods are truly some of the best I’ve seen
Yes I believe so. Take deep breaths and try to relax. I recommend meditation & this book [Panic Attacks Workbook: A Guided Program for Beating the Panic Trick https://www.amazon.com/dp/1569754152/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_17BFQP9X6FKKS95WHDJ1]
I also recommend finding a great therapist. I went only for 3 months & it helped me out a lot!
So sorry you’re dealing with this. Panic attacks and it’s symptoms are real and difficult and scary for sure. A main thing is to remind yourself and believe that it is anxiety and panic and not something that will kill you or seriously wrong. The symptoms are definitely real and trying to let them happen often feels like the opposite of what your natural reaction “should” be, but you have to prove to your brain that you are okay and safe and don’t need to panic.
Definitely read up on what it all means and these exposure techniques. The sooner and more diligently you work on it the better off you’ll be in the long-term. It is scary but know that you can get better (yes even without medication). Here’s some things to look up. Claire Weekes (YouTube, audible, books on Amazon).
And this book is also a life saver:
David Carbonell Ph.D. Panic Attacks Workbook: A Guided Program for Beating the Panic Trick
For this book I bought the book and the audio book to read and listen at the same time. Helped me focus and let it sink in. Sound the actual “work” (answering the questions) in the book is key to helping really absorb the info.
You, essentially, need to retrain your brain and practice not reacting to the panic attacks when they come. Let them wash over you, notice them, be annoyed, but keep doing whatever you need to. Definitely not at all simple but you can do it!
It takes practice!
Good luck with everything. So sorry you’re dealing with it.
this book is the best you can get IMO. It’s focus is on panic attacks.
Sadly, yes - exposure is the cure, but it won’t work until you’re ready, and you have to do it right. You can’t just go places freak out and go home. You have to have the right mindset when you push yourself. Don’t live a spot until your suds rating is down, etc.
That book actually does a good job of explaining everything. You just don’t get any behavioral therapy like you would a psychologist.
I couldn't find the books you mentioned. Did you mean? : "Panic Attacks Workbook: A Guided Program for Beating the Panic Trick" and "Dare: The New Way to End Anxiety and Stop Panic Attacks Fast"
My personal advice- stay away from SSRI's & Benzo's if you are having panic attacks. I'm not saying that they won't work, they probably will... the issue is that you won't actually get rid of the disorder and you risk becoming dependent on medication. Panic is completely treatable through CBT. If it didn't work for you, you weren't doing it right.
The sad truth with the medical system is that few know how to truly treat this disorder. Too many people try to treat the symptoms, not the problem. The best book on the subject, without question, is this- https://www.amazon.com/Panic-Attacks-Workbook-Program-Beating/dp/1569754152
If you are serious about your recovery, buy this book and work through it slowly. Read the chapters twice, absorb it. By the end, panic will no longer control your life. Sorry about the rant, I get so frustrated with the system and seeing it fail people like you. You can do it. Stay strong.
This is beatable.
Not therapy, but know someone who had great success with this book (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Panic-Attacks-Workbook-David-Carbonell/dp/1569754152). It's like a workbook so takes you a few weeks to work through and I think it works like CBT but not sure exactly. Just thought I would mention incase it helps.
I'd definitely try and see a professional in person, I'm sure there are some in your area who'd be willing to make time to see you. Something like this might also be helpful in the meantime or if you have trouble finding someone. Sending good vibes your way, I know how much of a bitch anxiety/panic can be. You got this, though, normal will find you again. :)
It is intended for major anxiety problems but all types of anxieties start with the same pattern
There's an excellent book to stop the anxiety mechanism on your brain. PM me if you are interested.
edit: I'm posting the book link since a lot of people are messaging me.
I’m sorry you’re going through this. I’m a work in progress myself. I started dealing with panic attacks a long time ago and agoraphobia the last couple years. There have been a few things that have been helpful for me.
This book: Panic Attacks Workbook
And this woman, Dr. Claire Weekes. Including this audiobook. It was written/recorded quite a while back, but the overall concept and methods are good. Claire Weekes
I wish you all the best.
this is the one that I have. I don't have agorphobia, but it seems to have an understanding of agoraphobia and some techniques to overcome/work through it.
