Our cat will put some of his favorite toys in his food bowl for safekeeping. Not sure where the shoe is on his top 5 list, but he may just want to move it closer to the food bowl for security. In the meantime, try this for teething/biting needs. We have gone through 4 of these in the past 5 years.

hot sauce or lemon juice on the cords (make sure everything is disconnected first). My cat loved chewing on soft cords only (yes, apple cords were the only ones she would chew and she basically tore one up - hundreds of little holes down the whole thing) If that's the case, they sell this really cute teether toy that's a rubber disk with little spikes on the side and a couple of fabric ribbons, I got one and it seems to be good with her. I'm going to brave the downvote storm by being the wet blanket here. You're training your cat to destroy things (that you may not find as funny/cute later.) I would recommend chew toys like this one which will give him/her a great workout while also focusing their behaviors into non-destructive habits. Especially while they're young.
