I thought the same thing too when I first heard of it, but it's been saving me since I've started a new birth control pill which likes to spring yeasties every month near/after my period. When I start feeling a little funny down there, I'll pop one in during the day (wear a panty liner) or while I sleep, but I usually prefer during the day because it gets messier for me while I sleep. I have not had a full-blown yeast infection since I've started using this boric acid.
It's completely painless, you just pop one in for how many days you need one and it clears everything up! No visit to the doctor, prescription, or extremely painful Monistat. Seriously, fuck Monistat!
I'm so sorry your mom isn't helping you. I can help. I used to have chronic yeast infections.
1) ONLY wash your vagina with warm water. No soap, feminine washes, etc. ONLY water. Soaps and washes like that can kill the good bacteria you need to keep a healthy balance of vaginal bacteria. Plus, women often have allergic reactions to the fragrances and other stuff they put in there.
2) Letting it breathe is important like you said. Sleep with no bottoms on (so just like a big t-shirt or nightgown) and wear cotton underwear with loose fitting clothes. You just want there to be airflow.
3) For me, boric acid suppositories have changed my life. They are safe (only unsafe if you are pregnant). My gynecologist is the one who taught me about them. If you have an active infection, you put one inside of you every night for 7-10 days. If you have a bad infection, you might need it for 10 days. It helps your vaginal ph get back to a healthy state. You can buy them on Amazon. Read the reviews if you want to learn more. I use mine when I feel "off" or even once a week or every two weeks to keep things where I want them.
Let me know if you have more questions. I can help!
I started feeling better on day 3 after taking fluconazole, the itchiness was significantly less which made me feel like my yeast infection was going away
if you're less itchy, I say it's working, even if you got a bunch of discharge suddenly, maybe it's a one time thing and wont happen again
I use pHD boric acid suppositories
I used them twice a day for a week and then switched to only one at night for over a week. I think they helped a bunch.
I don’t like any of the creams. I feel like they really
damage my sensitive skin. And I also don’t like the pills docs give because they are strong for your whole system. If you have had a yeast infection for a long time, the infection can get really strong so you might have to be patient while you fight it. I use boric acid suppositories and those have been a game changer for me. For an active infection, you use one every night for 7-10 days. Then you may want to use a few a week to keep your ph balanced. Personally, I don’t think diet changes have made a difference when I’ve tried. If you are diabetic, then you can have yeast issues but if not, I just haven’t personally seen diet changes help. You can get the boric acid suppositories on amazon. [link]
I do encourage you to go to a gyno in general. Your vaginal health is important and there isn’t anything to be embarrassed about. You need to take care of yourself.
If it's yeast, it's easier to get rid of it if you treat it early. The only way to know for sure is for them to do a swab and look at the yeast under a microscope. I'd do that if you're new to yeast infections. I treat yeast myself at home with boric acid suppositories (can't use if pregnant) because I can get them in cycles sometimes. You can buy them on Amazon for pretty cheap. They are safe to use. If you have an active infection, you do one a night for 5-7 days.
Also what happens to me is my vulva skin just gets dry and itchy for random reasons. After yeast, after hot or dry cold days, etc. I use coconut oil on my outside vulva skin to keep it moisturized and that has helped a lot. I used to think I was getting a yeast infection but it was really just dry and itchy skin. The coconut oil helps me a lot and I realized it wasn't yeast all the times I thought it was.
I take these. It’s called pH-D feminine health support on amazon. If you’re still debating and thinking about, read the reviews. I, myself, love these and think it’s a need for every woman out there.
Nope! Not at all! Your vagina can become a higher pH from sex/semen and using boric acid brings it back to normal pH. I buy mine on amazon, but they sell boric acid suppositories in stores.
pH-D Feminine Health Support, Boric Acid Vaginal Suppositories (Bottle of 24) [link]
I had to get them off of amazon, I talked to a few pharmacists and asked why they don’t sell them in stores. Apparently, people were taking them orally and not reading the directions so they don’t sell them in NY state. Other states may though. I’ve gotten a few friends hooked on these too they really do work.
Contrary to the other commenter I would say that boric acid saved my life after battling with recurring bv/yeast infections for three years. Even after visiting multiple (five to be exact) doctors who couldn't figure out the problem, this is the only thing that helped.
I drink kombucha and green tea at least three times a week and use a boric acid suppository (from Amazon) when things start to feel slightly off. I try to avoid eating too many sugary foods or carbs in a day and also eat greek yogurt with cinnamon and honey at least four times a week. These changes have completely gotten rid of my infections. Hope this helps! I know how awful it feels when it seems like things will never be normal again!
pH-D Feminine Health - Boric Acid Suppositories - Woman-Owned - Eliminates Odor from Menstruation, Exercise, Intimacy, & Menopause - 600 mg x 24 count [link]
These have seriously changed my life!! My doctor recommended to me after I kept getting yeast infections and BV after having sex. I put one in after I have sex and have had zero issues since. Women’s vaginal health doesn’t get talked about enough-I feel like if more women knew about this it would help so much!
Maybe it's just the normal sex smells from fluids and sweat mixing?
Have you tried boric acid suppositories instead of a vagisil wash? I occasionally pop one in after sex and it's known to help with smell.
pHD brand boric acid suppositories are available online

pH-D Feminine Health - Boric Acid Suppositories - Woman Owned Natural Alternative to Restore Vaginal Balance - Prevent Odor from Menstruation, Exercise, Intimacy & Menopause – 600 mg x 24 count [link]
You can buy them on Amazon. They work better than the prescriptions. The Fluconazole prescription has never worked for me and it’s really harsh on your whole body. Boric acid is safe (unless pregnant) and only affects your vagina. You use them 7-10 nights in a row for an active infection and then one once in a while to keep the ph balanced.
Here is the link to buy. You can read the reviews too:
Have you tried boric acid suppositories? Is that what you were inserting or was that a yeast infection medicine you were inserting? Boric acid suppositories really helped me. You can read the reviews on Amazon: [link]
You really don’t want to clean your vulva with anything other than warm water (not hot water). Soap can strip your delicate skin and kill the good bacteria. Boric suppositories help regulate your ph.
I used to get chronic yeast and I blame my boyfriend’s sperm honestly. Boric acid suppositories changed my life and I haven’t had yeast in a year. You can buy them on amazon. I only need one maybe twice a month now if I did something that used to trigger yeast but I haven’t had a problem in a long time now. It’s important to have the correct vaginal ph so bad bacteria can’t grow. Try them out. My gynecologist loves this company: [link]
I had a friend in college that was told by her Dr to use them for recurring yeast infections/BV. I had a really hard time finding them in NY and after talking to a pharmacist, apparently in NY state they don’t sell them any more bc people were taking them ORALLY and not using it as a suppository, which can make you really sick. I’m not sure if other state regulations but I can see why they stopped selling them bc people don’t read labels and I can totally see someone taking them like a pill. Honestly they are a godsend. They don’t feel harsh or acidic like monistat. My pharmacist also recommended going to a pharmacy where they can compound it for you, but I couldn’t find one. Here’s the link to the ones I got from amazon.
I only use boric acid suppositories. You can buy them on Amazon. I’d get the applicators too because you can wash and reuse them and it helps get the pill inside of you deep enough to keep it in. For an active infection, use one every night for 7-10 days. Here is the link: [link]
I haven't used any other Queen B products. I have used this PhD brand from Amazon, it has over 5k reviews and in my opinion works better than Queen B, I normally recommend Queen B because of easy access and a lot of people have heard of them. Also, I haven't had to use ANYTHING in the past 6 months because of the PhD brand.
I don't think the oral supplements works. Probiotics are good and all, but the only thing that helped me were boric acid suppositories. You can buy them on Amazon for cheap. Read the reviews first and you'll see how many women it helps. All yeast infection treatments made me feel awful. The creams made my skin dry and irritated. The pills made me feel sick for weeks. So my gyno told me to try the boric acid (can't use if pregnant) and it's changed my life. I used to get 2 yeast infections a month. I haven't had one in probably 5 months now and that's a record for me these days. If you get the pills, insert one inside your vagina at night for 7 nights in a row. That's supposed to be enough to make your ph stronger. After that, use one a week for prevention or just after something you know triggers them. Life-changing.
Vaginas all have a smell. It can even change as you age or because of hormones. I use boric acid suppositories for yeast and they really work. A lot of women use them for smell too. The kind I get (recommended by my gyno) are on Amazon if you want to read the reviews. Lots of ladies talking about odor.
I would just pick up some PH-D Lady bits are complicated things and can easily get out of whack. Have her put one in after sex, or in the mornings if you like to have sex in the evenings and she'll be back to being really wet.
The emotional / intimacy stuff I can't help with, but from a physical standpoint. These should make a difference without needing to go to a doctor
I had chronic BV for a few years, it was so awful. I would take antibiotics that would give me a yeast infection and that cycle went on for a while.
Now I take boric acid suppositories, and my life is actually so much better.
I'm on mobile so sorry for the formatting
as someone else said, he might have a yeast infection and be giving it back to you. is he un-circumsized? they are more prone to it.
get some boric acid capsules and put one in your vag after you have sex. i used to get frequent yeast infections and these were a godsend. (i like these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KGFXSLQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
lastly- do you have a hormonal IUD? i had one and towards the end of it (last couple years) I started getting yeast infections all the time. Once I got it out, they stopped. It messes with your hormones and can make your vagina drier which can lead to yeast growth.
I also find I am more likely to get a yeast infection from sex if there isn't enough lubrication, either natural or added. feel free to message me! I have too much experience with this shit *eyeroll*
Borax vaginal pills - these go in your vagina and they REALLY work. I had chronic BV/yeast issues after or during my period and when i was on BC it was worse. Anyway - if i have any vaginal upset - i insert one of the pills into the vagina (DO NOT TAKE BY MOUTH). It basically corrects PH and the bacteria dont like that. I have been using them now for about a year and i have not had to use any RX at all for any yeast infections etc. I swear relief is also very fast. If you have an infection, the instructions will tell you to use for many days - honestly - one has cleared up any issue.
Use it at night, because you will get some grainy discharge. I do have a latex issue, and also sensitive to some semen.
Example that i have used
Also, if you still use tampons - switch to a menstrual cup. That really helped things too.
Vaginas love boric acid! It’s like hitting the refresh button. They sell it on Amazon.
boric acid has been nothing but super helpful for me!
I squat and insert it with one finger as I would do with a tampon. I found the discharge to be clear and watery but not excessive or bothersome. I get stubborn yeast infections which are resistant to anti fungal creams and since fluconazole pills are super bad for your body I decided to start using using boric acid caps. my infection went away in four days. seriously worth it! I bought this brand on amazon and it has worked amazingly well. https://www.amazon.ca/pH-D-Feminine-Health-Support-Suppositories/dp/B01KGFXSLQ #notanad
everyones body is different so be patient! if your infection is not gone immediately do not worry. it shouldn't be too long. good luck!
I can't promise this will help, but I had an awful yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis (I didn't ever go to the doctor) that lasted months! I was trying everything: garlic, apple cider vinegar, greek yogurt.. you name it. I finally stumbled upon Boric Acid. That link is to some boric acid suppositories specifically marketed for BV or yeast infections, but I just ordered the boric acid powder and put them in empty 0 or 00 size gel capsules. I ordered it from amazon but they might have it at your local pharmacy. Either way, it was amazing. Seriously night and day after just two or three days of use.
I suggest putting the suppositories in at night, as they make you INSANELY wet.
Also, I'm not a doctor, but it does seem like you might have an allergy, IBS, or some kind of inflammatory bowel disorder. Maybe try a serious elimination diet and slowly add things back in?
Edit: here's a link to the regular boric acid powder and the empty gel capsules I just used a knife to dump the powder in the capsules, it doesn't have to be precise, you can do two if you can't get the capsules very full, it won't hurt you.
This is the one I use and it's often recommended on reddit
"pHD Boric Acid Suppositories"
I used to get chronic yeast infections, but I use boric acid suppositories and it changed my life. You can read all the reviews on Amazon if you want. https://www.amazon.com/pH-D-Feminine-Health-Support-Suppositories/dp/B01KGFXSLQ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=273F69OOVL0L5&keywords=boric+acid+suppositories&qid=1566248616&s=gateway&sprefix=boric%2Caps%2C221&sr=8-3
I don't really have issues anymore. Having these on hand helps me catch an infection before it starts.
I'm personally over gyno visits when you don't feel heard. Unless they do a swab and get a test to prove what they think, I'd rather handle it myself. I love boric acid suppositories and they help with BV and yeast. They are pretty cheap and then you can manage your own vaginal health. I use one when I feel like something might be off but often use one once a week to keep things in check. I tend to get yeast infections after sex so sometimes I put one in the night after a day I had sex. You can learn more about them on Amazon. The reviews gave me hope: https://www.amazon.com/pH-D-Feminine-Health-Support-Suppositories/dp/B01KGFXSLQ/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1YN6ROC1TPYER&keywords=ph+defense+boric+acid&qid=1569355337&s=gateway&sprefix=ph+def%2Caps%2C204&sr=8-4
A typical yeast infection can take 7-10 days to clear up depending on how bad it got. My gyno doesn't like the 1 day Monistat option because they are harsh and it really doesn't get up in all the nooks of your vagina in one go to kill it. Either use the 7 day cream or try boric acid suppositories. I swear by them. I'd use one every night for 7 days in a row and then maybe one a week if you even need them after that. I also use a little coconut oil externally on my vulva because after yeast, my skin can get dry and irritated. You can read about them on Amazon and see all the positive reviews.
pH-D Feminine Health, First Woman Owned Boric Acid Vaginal Suppositories, Made in USA, Bottle of 24 (600mg) [link]
Here’s the Amazon link!
lack of lubrication shouldn’t cause burning when peeing. I’m sorry that you were made feel uncomfortable for getting STD checked. I think it’s extremely important and part of your over health to get tested 6-12months, this includes HIV as well even if you are in a loving marriage. but anyway...
You could have either BV or a yeast infection it sounds. You can take a low dose of Miconazole-7. (Don’t do 1-day Miconazole, it will irritate you if it’s already irritated or inflamed) or try PH-D feminine health Support. [link]
See if that helps a bit.
Hopefully someone else gives feedback too. Good luck. amazon link
Discharge is often your vagina trying to clean itself out more and prevent issues. You can try using boric acid suppositories and see if that balances your vaginal ph enough to calm it down. You can also use a thin layer of coconut oil on your vulva to help moisturize the skin. Of course, only ever wash your vagina with warm water. Boric acid really helped my vaginal issues. Read the Amazon reviews and see if you want to try it: https://www.amazon.com/pH-D-Feminine-Health-Support-Suppositories/dp/B01KGFXSLQ/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=ph+defense&qid=1590727924&sr=8-2
Hey- little bit of an update! I did some research and I decided to try some Boric Acid supplements for Bacterial Vaginosis, and I’ve seen some really good progress! You insert one into your vagina I think once every night. I’ve only done it twice but here’s a picture of how much better my vagina has been looking: [link] . Haha I know this sounds like an Ad but I swear this stuff is pretty great. You can always try it and see if it helps any. But still keep that doctors appointment in case it is HPV. Here’s the link to what I used: [link]
Vaginas are supposed to discharge. It's a self-cleaning oven. If you download a period tracking app like Flo, you can track your discharge and see how it changes depending on where you are in your cycle. It'll be like egg white when you're in your fertile window. If you don't have itching, swelling, pain, odor, etc it's just your standard, what-it-should-be discharge. Of course, if you're worried about it, seeing a doctor can help put your mind at ease. I also use boric acid suppositories to help manage the acidity so I don't get yeast or BV. You can buy them on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/pH-D-Feminine-Health-Support-Suppositories/dp/B01KGFXSLQ/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1YN6ROC1TPYER&keywords=ph+defense+boric+acid&qid=1569355337&s=gateway&sprefix=ph+def%2Caps%2C204&sr=8-4
Sorry to hear you are experiencing this, I know it can be extremely frustrating. Two things that I found helpful were Boric Adid suppositories and probiotics. I linked to the ones that I used but there are so many other options out there for these products. I am not a fan of consistent use of antibiotics because eventually our bodies can develop resistance to them, so please be careful with them.
You put the suppository in your vagina (usually at night) and symptoms cease sometimes within a day, but you should experience improvements within a couple of days. No odor, no itching, etc. I have heard of women who use these and their BV/yeast problems stop permanently. My period really messes with my ph balance, so I usually use them the last couple days of my period and then will use one if I ever have any symptoms come back. I experienced recurring BV since puberty, about 10 years, and this is the one thing that has brought instant, consistent relief without other negative side effects. I have heard of some people not having as much success, or even their own negative side effects, so I would look into that as well for you to balance the potential risk vs, potential benefit. Some literature on this method: 1, 2, 3.
Before using the Boric Acid, I used probiotics and found them to be very helpful but not as comprehensive as the BA suppositories. Within a week, many of my symptoms would cease, including any odor or itching (a very rare symptom for me), however my discharge would still seem a little off.
Before making another trip to the doctor, I would strongly suggest purchasing one of these! I also will second looking into what you are eating and how it might be impacting you. Wishing you luck!
