In another thread in another sub, someone who said they were a chemist told me that basic pH meters are quite cheap nowadays and that the most important thing was making sure you have buffers for calibration. He/she suggested this very cheap option that comes with buffers. I have not (yet) purchased it or any other model, but it's on my shopping list as well so I'm keeping an eye on this thread.
I'm also considering a DIY version with my Raspberry Pi. Not sure it will save me any money, but it might be more fun....
I purchase whichever is cheapest on Amazon. They last 1-2 years and are accurate enough for my uses. I'm currently using this one.
Test strips are useless because the colour of the soup stains them.
This meter is accurate enough for our purposes.
So, pH doesn't scale linearly, which means doubling everything isnt actually going to work. You have no xtals likely because your final pH isnt high enough.
Ah, fair enough. The nutes will raise the pH slightly, in my experience.
I had one plant start to product new yellow leaves shortly after I'd replaced the water. I was a bit baffled, so took the pH and it was up around 8 ish. I added some acid and took it back down to about 6 - 6.1 and overnight the yellowing disappeared.
It's worth getting a pH meter off Amazon or similar.
...is the one I have.
Yeah I did calibrate it, albeit 2 weeks ago or so.
I got 8 vs 6.4 when I tested it today, going to try hydro for the first time.
it was this one came with FREE calibration powder.....
scrog is basically hanging a net above your plants and then you use lst methods to weave your growth into the net, it keeps an even canopy so you get better use of available light
i would highly recommend a ph pen if you can swing it, i use just a cheapie i got from Amazon

I've never heard of those nutes around my area, but after quick look online shows it has a lot of different components to it, i like simple myself
I'm using this for flower: https://www.neptunesharvest.com/rf191-1.html
it's been pretty nice and easy to use, with one bottle only and all, and my plants have loved it
this is the one I use, been fine for all my extractions
