It is all plastic. Sound is ok. Connection is good unless you have your phone laying between the headphones and the basestation. Than it will be laggy when you get a message on your phone. But overall they are good. I took them off my pc today tbh. I went with some better quality headphones. You really can hear the difference in sound. I went with the Philips Fidelio X2HR. Way better sound and build quality and they come with a 3mtr cable.
I’m really wondering about those Pulse 3D’s. I have a pair of Phillips Fidelio X2/HR that I spent about $325 for but are now $150 two years later. Really excellent sound, open back, super comfortable. I figured I would invest in a quality pair that I’d use for a while, but I don’t own a bluetooth set.
Wondering how the Pulse compare to like the Gold and Platinum (I never heard either) in terms of quality and if you think it’s worth waiting for a more Pro quality pair, or if these are where it’s at?
I think it's very cheap on Amazon for only 149.99 and you may get some shipping benefits if you try the Prime 30 days trial.
You might not find the HD599 has much additional bass. I would suggest the Philips X2HR. They should have noticeably more bass than your existing headphones. And Amazon has free returns on them, which means free return shipping if you don't like them https://www.amazon.com/Philips-X2HR-Fidelio-Headphone-Black/dp/B06ZZXKZ25/
Plus Zeos has a review that should drop in the next few days and he's amazed at how much better these sound compared to the orignal fidellios
All those you mentioned are good gaming headphones, but most of them would require amplifiers (Fidelio X2 is the exception).
The PC37X is a very good gaming headset and you won't get a lot better in terms of in-game positioning and soundstage. So if you're happy with it and you're not really interested in music there's no need to look further.
If you want to also improve the sound quality, you could look into Fidelio X2 (X2HR is the new version with cosmetic improvements but otherwise very similar to the X2). Except they're not available on Amazon US at the moment for some reason. If you manage to spot a used pair in good condition, you can get new pads for them.
The Sennheiser HD58X special edition headphone from drop.com has a very balanced sound: https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-x-sennheiser-hd-58x-jubilee-headphones You can get a $10 discount if a first time buyer from them.
Then there is the Philips X2HR which is on closeout special (new X3 supposedly comes out Q1). https://www.amazon.com/Philips-X2HR-Fidelio-Headphone-Black/dp/B06ZZXKZ25/ It has more bass emphasis and a bigger soundstage than the HD58X, with slightly recessed mids.
Amazon has free returns, which means free shipping on returns for the X2HR, so that could be fun to order right now if you credit card will allow it. Try it. See what you think. If you love it, great. If not, start a new thread and tell people what you might want different/the same in terms of bass, mids, treble quantity/quality, plus soundstage and resolution. It's a popular headphone, so lots of people would be able to use that as a point of reference for other recommendations.
That is a great review on the K612 although I am no pro at reading those reviews lol.
Alright, that leaves me with the following (locally available) options:
- Philips X2HR : $195
- AKG K702 : $170
- AKG K612 PRO : $140
- Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro 250 Ohm and 80 ohm: $168 (there is a 250 ohm black limited edition too but much more expensive, and another 80 ohm black edition too)
- beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO all 3 options available at both colors at $170
- beyerdynamic DT-880 Pro 250 Ohm : both colors at $205 - $230
I am honestly willing to take a risk with the DT990 and not the DT770 since they are open back, unless that is meaningless or can be objective. I am also planning on getting a second pair down the line, and those would be from drop most probably (maybe an HD6xx).
Apart from that, I read that the E10K, which is the budget to go to AMP/DAC can support up to 150 ohm (on the Fiio website) yet they are recommended to many DT990 owners (I think), is that fine or should I consider the K5 pro or K3.
$350 on Amazon.in:
https://www.amazon.in/Philips-X2HR-Fidelio-Headphone-Black/dp/B06ZZXKZ25
I daily drive a pair of Philips Fidelio x2hr and I'm perfectly happy with them. Bulky but really comfortable and great sound for the price. https://www.amazon.com/Philips-X2HR-Fidelio-Headphone-Black/dp/B06ZZXKZ25
Philip Fidellio X2HR Amazing open back headphones. Arguably the best open back headphone under $200
KZ ES4 earbuds Great sounding headphones for under $20.
Hey all, help me narrow down my choice here. Looking at the following headphones, given the requirements below:
Budget: ~$200
Source/Amp: PC, with an DAC/amp to come (Schiit stack or equivalent)
Gear Use: Home use only, for gaming and music
Tone: Balanced would be nice, given the range of music I like, and gaming usage
Current Gear: KRK KNS-6400, direct into a PC. I've loved my KRK's, but they are perhaps a little too neutral, and too critical. I'd like to try out open-backs for improved soundstage and imaging. Would like perhaps a little more base, perhaps a more cinematic experience. Not interested in a lateral move.
Don't make a Rook*ie mistake, check the prices.

What make/model headphones have you heard that like or don't like? What was good or bad about them?
In the meantime, research the Philips X2HR. They are on sale on Amazon for <$120 and are a popular recommendation for headphones $200 and under
https://www.amazon.com/Philips-X2HR-Fidelio-Headphone-Black/dp/B06ZZXKZ25/
They have some bass emphasis and a big soundstage. Easy to drive (don't need an amp). Free returns, so no penalty for trying them.
You might try the Philips X2HR that are currently on special on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-X2HR-Fidelio-Headphone-Black/dp/B06ZZXKZ25/ They have some bass emphasis with a little treble emphasis. Amazon has free returns, which means free shipping to send them back. So worth trying. And because they are popular, if you don't like them, describing what you want the same/different would make it easier for people to help you find something you like better.
The DT990 are known for having treble emphasis that some people find fatiguing.
Yes. Some people find the treble fatiguing to use for longer periods. Best to buy from a place that has a good return policy in case that happens to you.
As an alternative, you might consider the Philips X2HR that are currently on special at Amazon for $115: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-X2HR-Fidelio-Headphone-Black/dp/B06ZZXKZ25/ Or the Sennheiser HD58X special edition from drop.com that are $150. First time buyers can get a $10 coupon: https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-x-sennheiser-hd-58x-jubilee-headphones Both of these are fairly easy to drive, whereas the DT990 250 ohm may need an amp, depending on your setup.
They are a very good headphone for the price. They were considered a good headphone when they sold for ~ $200.
They do have some bass emphasis. As long as you like that, worth a shot. Amazon has free returns, which means free shipping on returns: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-X2HR-Fidelio-Headphone-Black/dp/B06ZZXKZ25/ . If you have Amazon Prime, order them today, by Wednesday you can try them out. If you don't like them, then start a new post about what you would like different about the X2HR with your budget, and people can help you out even better with suggestions.
$114 from this seller, also new and fulfilled by Amazon.
> and lastly I can't tell the difference between these two versions, but one is $124.99 and one is $149.99 - Both directly sold by Phillips through Amazon, but there must be a difference since they are listed separately and priced a bit differently.
Same. Who knows why there are two listings. Get the cheaper pair.
Regarding your other questions, these are very popular headphones and there is tons written about them online already. I have nothing that can add to that. Note that Amazon has free returns, which means free shipping if you don't like them. Might as well order and try them out.
If you want another easy to drive headphone in your budget range to consider, look into the Sennheiser HD58X special edition from drop.com. It has a more balanced sound, whereas the X2HR have some significant bass emphasis with slightly recessed mids.
Philips X2HR might suit you. https://www.amazon.com/Philips-X2HR-Fidelio-Headphone-Black/dp/B06ZZXKZ25/ Amazon has them listed as free returns, so you get free shipping back if you decide you don't like them. No penalty.
I would spend $15 more and get the Philips X2HR that is currently on special: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-X2HR-Fidelio-Headphone-Black/dp/B06ZZXKZ25/
Grab the Philips X2HR while they are still available on Amazon for <$120: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-X2HR-Fidelio-Headphone-Black/dp/B06ZZXKZ25/ They were considered a good headphone when they regularly sold for +$200. I believe they are on closeout since Philips has the X3 coming out in Q1.
These are v-shaped headphones with a good bit of bass emphasis. They have a large soundstage. Amazon also has free returns, which means free shipping on returns, so little penalty in trying them.
Open headphones are a great choice as they have a larger soundstage than closed headphones, making music more enjoyable. However, they leak sound in and out. So only for home use, but you'll be glad you got them when you hear them.
The HD58X that have already been mentioned are one great choice. I believe you can get a discount code when you register if a first time buyer.
If you would like some headphones with extra bass emphasis, the X2HR on Amazon are also an excellent choice: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-X2HR-Fidelio-Headphone-Black/dp/B06ZZXKZ25/
Yeah, I understand. I went with the K7XX instead of trying the K702 because they were supposed to be a bit warmer. I already had the HE-400, and the HE-400 treble was a little sharper than my K7XX. I ended up keeping the K7XX. The HD58X are definitely smoother in the treble. But veiled sounding to me like the HD6XX. the HD58X has a little treble emphasis.
The Fidelio X3 is supposed to come out soon, so you might want and see what happens with it: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/philips-fidelio-x3.913807/
This is probably why the X2HR is $150 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-X2HR-Fidelio-Headphone-Black/dp/B06ZZXKZ25/ . Philips is probably trying to clear stock in anticipation of the X3 release.
If you think you might want the X3, follow that thread at Head-Fi to find out when it's released.
Sure, I just bought the Phillips Fidelio X2/HRs. It was between them at the Sennheiser HD650s but several people suggested the X2s if I was going to use them for gaming and movies, and the HD650s for music. Also, they’re low impedance (30ohms) so an XBOX One controller drives them nicely — the PS4 dualshock seems a little quieter.
I bought an Astro A40 MixAmp TR thinking I’d be able to use it with any optical signal and have it output Dolby Digital but it’s looking like it has to be thru the PS4 only. And wasn’t hugely impressed, although I have yet to tweak any equalizer settings, but the four presets were kind of unimpressive compared to just running a headphone out from my Onkyo receiver. Figured I’d just send them back and put the money towards a dedicated headphone amp/DAC like JDS Labs’ The Element for $350, but started to wonder if it wouldn’t be better to just upgrade my receiver to a Dolby Atmos / DTS:X 7.2 4K/HDR/Dolby Vision like this Sony receiver for the same price.
Maybe not that exact DAC or receiver, but if I’ll be mostly wearing the headphones in that same room anyway, and a receiver is sort of a giant dedicated headphone amp/DAC already, maybe it was just better to upgrade that instead. (Although I could obviously be 100% wrong about that).
In case anyone is still curious, the listing went live today on Amazon . You're now able to order them but there is no delivery date as of yet. No, they did not sell out.
