Thanks for this. I have a very early reader and this was pretty much the process used when he learned to read. We were a bit less formal since he was just a young toddler. (And I am not a teacher so I didn't know the step-by-step.) It's nice to have the procedure spelled out like this; I will do this for my younger kids.

We had a bunch of those little beginning reader books. For example, "Guided Science Readers" and "Now I'm Reading! Animal Antics." I did not print out lists of sight words because of his age (he was not even two then). But they were picked up naturally, probably from reading books like the above.
