So, I looked up the manual and it says it "recommends 12-3 cable with ground". Keep in mind that resistance increases as the cable length increases, so if you buy a reasonable length installation kit it will work fine, even if it's 14 gauge. You might need a help from an electrician but an extension cord can have removable plug, like this one:

If the extension cord has low gauge (high amp) and is not too long, it should work fine but don't use one with high gauge or don't use one that's long or else it could overheat and cause fire. You should also ask an electrician for additional safety details (he/she might tell you about things like not leaving the plug near water, not leaving it half plugged etc.).
