I have Plantronics 780, but holyshit, I bought it for $50, and now it's $200. That's crazy.

However, I like it so much that when I sat on my previous one and broke it (only slightly, my friend is still using the broken one) I purchased another of the exact same model. Fuzzy earmuffs ftw.

I bought these for $50 CAD. Had them now for the past couple of years and they work amazing for both music and gaming.

Does virtual 7.1, with it enabled in Squad I can hear footsteps around me and always pinpoint where its coming from before most others around me.

Microphone is also really good.

Budget - Up to $200, but less is better

Source - USB or 3.5mm jack. I'm okay with either, but 3.5mm would save me a USB port and allow me to connect it to my phone.

Requirements for Isolation - Some is nice, but I'm okay with very little to none.

Preferred tonal balance - I got to try my friend's Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones and I absolutely loved how clear everything sounded. I assume that is what "balanced" sounds like, so I guess that is what I prefer.

Preferred Type/Build - It needs to be around-the-ear (I have big ears), lightweight, and have a cushion on the headband. I can not stress the last two enough. I have screws in my head and any kind of pressure on them is excruciating. Normal headphones suck because of this; they're either too heavy and put pressure on the screws or have no cushion so the headband rubs up against the screws. Not fun.

My current headset is the <strong>Plantronics GameCom 780</strong>. They weigh less than a pound, have that huge cushion on top, and have the big around-the-ear cushions; they're the single most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. I don't like my friend's 280s because they press into my ears, which hurts.

If you guys know of any that are like those, I'd love to hear about them (don't worry about a mic). My current ones are starting to fall apart.

The first question would be "can you afford them"? That's quite a bit to drop on headphones you're not sure about. Looks like the ones they've replaced are nearly half the price, and they look the same.

I would say check out /r/headphones, but I think they're snooty audiophiles, so they wouldn't be much help...

As for an actual suggestion I've had these for three years and I've beaten the hell out of them, no complaints.

Maybe someone in one of the CS:GO subs could offer suggestions?

Gamecom 780 go on sale sometimes. Oh shit, like now. Not as good as the usual ModMic + Audiophile Headphone recommendation, but this was a very comfortable headset for me.

Build quality was iffy, only lasted me a year and a half, but you don't get many options with $50.

Pretty comfy too. Like I say though, I'm not an audio guy so someone else will probably be able to say if these are any good or not, or if there is a better headset in that price range.

For about 10 dollars more i would recommend the Planstronics Gamescom 780. Ive had a pair of these for over 4 years hard used for 2 years and the last year and a half has been used by my uncle and cousin for skype calls and streaming when my cousin is over the house. The mic is pretty decent on it although picks up ALOT of noise considering my cousin refuses to turn it down when he streams with them (It can pick up me using my cherry mx blues about 4 feet away). The sound was decent and sounds better with the surround turned on. Not really bass heavy but good mid range sounds. Great for positional audio in games like CS. USB only not compatible with consoles but perfect for gaming. Fits my huge 8 1/4 noggin fine with some complaints about the cups being square and not fulling covering some ears but was fine for me. Software is pretty simple with just like two settings if i remember correctly. Has mute and volume control on the headset along with 7.1 to regular stereo toggle button. Id give it an honest 4.5 out of 5 with .5 being taken off because it collects lint like a magnet on the earpads. Its a solid tank that has been dropped a few times and came along with me to a few lans at friends houses. Now im rocking a more expensive setup but these are something to fall back on without losing too much quality in mic and sound.

Just a word of advice to anyone else thinking of providing a suggestion, 80 CAD (Canadian dollars.) is NOT 70-75 USD, it is just over 60 USD. (At least at current exchange rate). Just letting everyone know.

So on to my suggestion. I suggest this pair of headphones. To start off with, it is well under your budget, (only 69.99 CAD). It has an overall 4 star rating on amazon.com (no-one from amazon.ca has provided a rating yet.) It feature 7.1 virtual surround sound, meaning it simulates a whole array of physical speakers. (This setting is not recommend for CS:GO as it can make pinpointing sounds a little bit harder.)

Reviews state that the sound quality and microphone quality are outstanding, but there is just one flaw. The headband on these headphones is quite delicate, so avoid yanking the ears apart to put them on your head. Fortunately, most people who broke their headphones said that the customer support was excellent in replacing them. They do come with a 1 year warranty, so keep the documentation just in case.

Anyway, hope that whichever pair of headphones you settle on serve you well, and have fun gaming.

these look good enough. I have a plantronics headset (gamecom 380) and that already is comfortable, has good sound and a good mic, so the 780 should be a big improvement. And they're not at all expensive. And with gaming headsets, I don't think you'll get better with more money. If you want really excellent sound, Sennheiser headphones are great, but of course they don't come with a mic.

I have these and I highly recommend them. Only 50 buck on amazon. Super comfy and great sound and voice quality.

Plantronics 780. It's an over the ear headset. Very comfortable. Though I do need to pull it off at least one ear every other hour or so. The 7.1 emulated surround sound sounds great for games like BF3 and for playing music. This thing can get loud too.

I got Plantronics GameCom 780 recently and I am very pleased with it. Good build quality and sound. The surround sound works as well as can be expected on a headset.

I had a pair of the same headphones and they broke exactly a year after I bought them. Same story with all of my friends. If you buy a new pair I'd suggest Plantronics Gamecomm 780 They have lasted me well over a year and they are still holding strong!

My recommendation in that price range would be the Plantronics Gamecom 780. It's comfortable (even for my big ears where it sits on my earlobes quite a bit) the sound is decent, and the mic is shockingly high quality for a cheap headset mic. Here's a sound sample of the mic by a guy reviewing the Gamecom 788. The only difference between the 780 and 788 is aesthetic, and the 788 is a BestBuy exclusive.

I got a lot of mileage out of my Plantronics Gamecom 780 headset, but a dedicated mic will beat a headset mic just about every time. The Sony ECM CS3 is also quite good for the money.

I have an older one of these. Its about 2 years in use. Mic qualaty is good.

I use a Plantronics GameCom 780 for all my videos (currently at $49.99 on Amazon). I'm genuinely curious as to whether you would qualify my voice track as not of recording quality (not in a defensive or accusatory way; I truly am curious).

Perhaps you might watch 10 seconds of any of my recent episodes and let me know if you think it's clear that there's a much lower quality level versus a standalone mic. My feeling is that unless you were an audiophile, have spent a lot of time in the industry, or were deliberately trying to elucidate a person's mic quality, most viewers don't notice much of a difference, given a bit of clean up in post, which I do.

I know that dollar for dollar, a stand alone mic will always win out in quality, but I honestly don't think that my voice track quality is bad. Also, I know that the GameCom is not, and will never be a top tier mic, but I do feel like it does a bang up job. Am I fooling myself about my audio quality?

I have the Plantronics GameCom 780 and it's great. The surround sound works great and the mic is pretty decent, though you may have to use some noise reduction. They used to be around $80 but I don't know if they are still being manufactured or not cause the price is now easily over a hundred.

These ones are GREAT for their price, had them for a year now. I suggest you save that extra budget for something else.

Plantronics Gamecom 780. I've had these for three years now, and I love them. I had a turtle beach headset before these, and these things are way more comfortable. The ear holes are very big, so your ears don't touch the headset much at all. They also have 7.1 surround sound which is awesome for gaming and listening to movies/music. The only downside is that the cable is on the short side, but I've dealt with it for 3 years and it's fine. Also they're only $50

I already had a usb headset, Gamecom 780's, for PC gaming and they work great on PS4. Chatted to my brother with both the 780's and the mic that came with the PS4 and he said the 780's are way clearer. Bit pricey but still an option if you don't mind full headsets.

Someone recommended the Plantronics Gamecom 780. I wanted a headset with 7.1 ch. tech to play Battlefield 4. I bought it slightly used on ebay for $50.

It's my first headset, the sound is good and the mic picks up my voice very well. The only problem I have with it is that it squeezes my head so I had to stretch them out when I first got them.

I have a pair of Plantronics headphones. I'm no audiophile but I do appreciate good sound and these sound great to me. They feel very nice and durable and are pretty comfortable excepts there is a plastic guard to protect the speakers which my ears press against and that makes my ears hurt after using them for like an hour or so. I don't think they will break anytime soon barring an accident of some sort but I also have a somewhat smaller head.

ninja edit: It is usb only so you will have to be ok with that. Also the reviews did have some complaints about them breaking pretty easily. Like I said I haven't had any problems or evidence of problems.
