I highly recommend you and any reader out there that is interested in further information or musings around this to read Heidegger's "Origin of the Work of Art" along with Merlou Ponty's "Eye and Mind" Heidegger's piece, if you get into it, will change forever how you view art and works in museums. The author of the post above merely touches on some great things that can really ground a viewer to the work. I don't want to go into detail as I'm tired right now, and to be honest I can't do the works justice. I can say that they are incredible pieces on the philosophy of art and undo the notion that art is about "beauty".
