this is not light weight, but this is what I use. its very portable. porter cable 150 psi 1.5 gallon its under $100 on amazon and I use it for filling tires and running small shop tools. I had a big compressor for years and sold it as It wasted space and wasn't portable enough. I was at a buddies who went too small and it took forever to recover the tank and filling tires was difficult.
I was looking into that option a couple years ago. For the price, I ended up going with this. For $40 more you can get a full compressor. It's obviously not as portable, but it has more power to blow out your friend's rig that hasn't been cleaned in two years, and can also air up your tires, etc.
What do you mean by compact? You can find air compressors in all kinds of shapes and sizes.

Works great and is quite light compared to a typical pancake compressor.
