I agree that's a great router.
And to be devil's jackass here, I fully believe there will come a time when you want to put a router in the table and leave it there. When you do, this Porter Cable either with the base, or only the motor, is a good option.
Yes. Even at the best sale price I've ever seen it was still over $300.
Now you just have to complete the set and form the world's highest RPM voltron.
When people are referring to the "industry standard " Porter cable routers, they are refering to the speedmatic line which are over $300. Those $100 routers do not have anywhere near the functionality of the festool.
Your point still stands though, the Speedmatics are still like half the price of a Festool 1400. Although I don't think the porter cable routers are easily obtainable in Europe, so it becomes a moot point for OP.
