This PowerA Wireless GC Controller is OFFICIALLY Licensed by Nintendo. Might be the closest to an official Nintendo wireless GC controller we'll get (other than the WaveBird of course).
>Official Licensed Product
>This PowerA Controller is officially licensed for Nintendo Switch. Always look for this seal when buying video game accessories as assurance that the product has gone through Nintendo’s rigorous testing and evaluation process.
in case anyone doesn't know it exists there's already a gamecube style pro controller for the switch on amazon

not trying to one up or anything I just know people who would want to see it will be on this post
So I'm debating about playing through Sunshine with the GameCube controller and am confused what I need. Is the following controller compatible? And if so do I also need to purchase the GameCube controller adapter? I don't really want to purchase two things just to play with a different controller - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GXLBCC3?pf_rd_r=TQ4QSGZHHPTR2GR6NXHM&pf_rd_p=9d9090dd-8b99-4ac3-b4a9-90a1db2ef53b&th=1
The wireless gamecube pro controllers have all of the same buttons as a proper pro controller and will work in any game that supports a pro controller. They just lack rumble.
https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo-Switch-GameCube/dp/B07GXLBCC3
Its the official SSBU Gamecube controller which is literally just a re-release of the original gamecube controller. Those lack the complete set of buttons and clickable sticks. However they do work outside of smash bros, the only requirement is that the game not use a button it doesnt have.
Simple arcade games and even Mario Kart 8 play just fine with them.
If they love Super Smash Bros, and we’re a fan from the GameCube days, Power A has a wireless GameCube controller clone (what a lot of folks consider the definitive smash controller).

As many people have already said, the gamecube controller does not have buttons under the sticks so nothing is wrong with the controller.
If you do still want to use a gamecube controller for this I'd recommend the PowerA Switch Gamecube controller. It's basically just a switch pro controller in a gamecube shell so it has all of the buttons you'd expect on a modern controller. Here's a link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GXLBCC3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_glt_fabc_D9NCRK1RMPM2R7NZ4DAK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1. Amazon says the original price is $55, but that's a lie. You can always find them for $30-$40. There's also a wired version if you want to save a few bucks and not worry about batteries.
I use the PowerA one.
If I really really wanted to play Melee on a wireless controller, understanding it would be at least a little laggy compared to wired, would I be better off using a wavebird or rigging one of those weird switch pro controllers to work in Dolphin?
You'll have to look to modifying your GCC to get what you want. GCC uses analog for trigger presses, would need to get it modified so its more like a digital press.
Alternatively you could swap to a pro controller to do what you'd like, or meet in the middle with a GCC-shell on a pro controller (https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo-Switch-GameCube/dp/B07GXLBCC3)
At the end of the day, do what's most comfortable for your hands and realize that doing a short hop on ANY button is going to take discipline.
No, it cant be simulated.
Normal gamecube controllers arent compatible with a bunch of games because of their missing buttons and inputs.
If you want the form factor and the buttons; there are third party options for gamecube "pro" controllers. PowerA, PDP, and HORI all make gamecube controllers with the full button and input suite.
They are not greedy for being smart. They made an investment in purchasing a controller.
As for the controller I found this on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GXLBCC3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_hzjJCbFKKKETS
Nintendo probably will at some point just not now.
> The lack of GC controller support is another huge turn off.
Though I get that due to the missing analog triggers (and really it would be nice if any game aside from smash supports them), they controls were changed for digital inputs and I'll be playing using one of these, so I'm hoping for the best.
Call me an odd duck, but I didn't like the Switch Procontroller and went with a PowerA Wireless GameCube Style Controller . My only gripe is it doesn't have Rumble, but aside from that it quickly became my go to controller.
I would recommend the PowerA Gamecube controller.
It's wireless, so you don't need an adapter and, unlike actual GC controllers, it can wake up the Switch from sleep.
It feels just like an actual GC controller, except it's a little bit lighter (which doesn't discomfort my medium-sized hands at all).
The other complaint that people have with it is that the L and R buttons are not analog; meaning that the button press only registers when the buttons are fully depressed. Personally... this doesn't bother me as much as I thought it might.
Not requiring an adapter and being able to wake the Switch from sleep mode are such nice features to have. I didn't appreciate them until I got this controller.
Yeah its the power A, looks like this. Sorry for shitty amazon link, I have the grey one (it's all they had at wal mart at the time)
It's perfect for casual home use, it works for any game or anything you need the gyro for even. And I can do tech/combos with it no problem, never had an issue with it. I always wanted a GC controller with a left bumper cause I find that a perfect jump button, so easy to just tap and slide your finger off for SH.
Why not both?
https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo-Switch-GameCube/dp/B07GXLBCC3
I have this. It’s a dream come true. I rank it up there as one of my all time favorite controllers. You get the Game Cube layout without all the adapters and cords. It’s less expensive than the Pro controller and only slightly more expensive than the GC controller with an adapter.
It truly is everything I asked for. I think it will serve you well especially if you’re used to the layout. It’s also internally a Switch controller, so any Switch game that will use a Pro controller will work with this. It’s officially licensed and it feels like an OG GC controller.
If that's the case, maybe just use a gcc? Or better yet, get the best of both worlds: https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo-Switch-GameCube/dp/B07GXLBCC3 It's got the guts of a pro controller so you can use it to play Breath of the Wild, but it has the feel of a GCC so it feel much better for high precision games like smash.
This one looks and feels like a GameCube controller, but it's really a Pro Controller. It has gyro controls, but lacks rumble and nfc. It's definitely the highest quality 3rd party switch controller though.
https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo-Switch-GameCube/dp/B07GXLBCC3
There's a middle ground if you're interested. A wireless GameCube controller for the switch with motion controls
Edit: found the link Same price as the GC controller and the adapter together

There's definitely squared deadzone input, you can see a quick guide here.
For the triggers, you can adjust how and where they actuate, but it's harder to find a specific guide for that and I won't have a controller to test with for a few days so I unfortunately can't show you right now. It can be a bit overwhelming to find specific settings at first because of the sheer number of options and menu layers Steam Input gives you.
For the color selection, I've never compared the range of colors between the two so it's possible they don't have perfect parity, but it might also just be a different sense of color calibration between the devs. I do know you can configure buttons to change the light when pressed, which is pointless but really cool.
And as for the Switch Controller, it's even cooler than that. They even support the third party PowerA GameCube Pro controller. One might think "Yeah, because it reports itself as a Switch Pro Controller to the system" but it actually doesn't. It reports itself specifically as a Licensed Pro Controller, and isn't detected as a real Pro Controller as a result. Valve specifically went out of their way to support this niche controller, which happens to be my second favorite controller of all time behind the Steam Controller itself. Valve rocks.
it'll work but that one is wired only. This is the one I use. https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo-Switch-GameCube/dp/B07GXLBCC3
This PowerA licensed controller is wireless/bluetooth and is great for a wireless Gamecube controller. It has a bit more functionality than a standard GC controller which makes it a bit more useful when playing normal Switch games.
The wired one released for Smash is pretty much just a Gamecube controller as far as I can tell. If you want the authentic feel, this is the best bet. Worth noting you will need the GC controller adapter to use this one.
https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo-Switch-GameCube/dp/B07GXLBCC3
We got those when Smash Bros came out.
Is there a question or something in here? The controller pictured is a decent controller, not that rare, available at Amazon for about $50 new. I think the biggest thing from what I can see is that the Triggers aren't analog, so you have to fully depress them before they register.
I personally would never buy a used controller as controllers have a habit of either being slightly off calibration, buttons can register improperly, etc.
I 100% recommend anyone to get a first party controller like this (from a reputable Market seller so you don't get a knockoff). This model is a little bit lighter and not quite as sturdy feeling as the OG GC controllers, or even the Smash 4 one, but I have a couple and they work great and feel great.
If you're trying to sell the controller featured in your post, sorry for slandering it and good luck selling it! It's a good price. (But you should have posted that it was yours, otherwise it looks like you're looking for advice on it.)
Nintendo has only released standard GameCube controllers that work with an adapter, but several companies have released wireless controllers in the GameCube shape that the system sees as pro controllers and have the extra buttons the original GameCube controllers lack. PowerA's is pretty good and has motion controls, but I think lacks rumble. There are others from less known brands that aren't licensed like this Exlene one, which is cheaper and does have rumble.
Here's a Twitter thread where I compared several such controllers, and here's a followup about the Exlene.
To get under $30 look to used. They are often just as good.
This one is 28.33 used.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GXLBCC3/ref=cm\_sw\_em\_r\_mt\_dp\_Y0CHQFS7F7MFVDXXNTNB
And PowerA is a reputable maker
There's a switch GameCube controller. You can use the stick buttons and both bumpers. https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo-Switch-GameCube/dp/B07GXLBCC3/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Switch+gamecube&qid=1639269181&sr=8-3
Lots of gamecube style controllers for Switch available. Including adaptors for original gamecube controllers.
END COMMUNICATION
(Its not garenteed) I think that any of the usb switch controller to xbox should work. As long as you have the gamecube switch controller it should work. But if you have an original gamecube controller, it wont work.
For it to work, here is what you need
Gamecube nintendo switch controller https://www.amazon.ca/PowerA-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B07GXLBCC3/ref=sr_1_7?crid=25K7GUC8CG2IG&dchild=1&keywords=gamecube+nintendo+switch+controller&qid=1633286588&sprefix=gamecube+nintend%2Caps%2C174&sr=8-7
Xbox to nitendo switch controller adapter (i cant find one but im sure there is one online)
It's this
Just the companies that make them. "Technically" speaking any licensed switch controller in a standard video game controller format can be called a "Switch Pro Controller", but people refer to the one made by Nintendo as "The" Pro. For wired and other options they all have their own names for them.
The bigger licensed third party companies all made gamecube style controllers for the launch of Smash Bros back in 2018, so there is a few variants.
PowerA makes a Gamecube style controller in both wireless and wired form.
PDP makes a wired Gamecube fight pad
and HORI makes the controllers referred to as "battlepads"
These savings aren't just Black and White.

this one, from my experience PowerA Wireless GameCube Style Controller for Nintendo Switch - Purple https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GXLBCC3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_.aHmDbGRETQ8R
I don’t think it’s possible to play effectively with just the joy cons. You can look into getting one of these. I bought two and they’re really nice to use
Official would probably be the best
I chose these powerA wireless controllers since I don't want to deal with cables. They have worked very well for months however if used extensively the control stick can start to drift. Also they don't contain rechargable batteries so you will have to change the batteries every two months or so.
Iirc the PowerA one has rumble, will post an Amazon link in a sec
