What is the rest of your setup, phono, amp, speakers?
The AT-VM95E is sufficient or the Denon DP300.
The 2M Red on it's own is overpriced for what it is.
If you really want the 2M Red get one preinstalled on a Pro-ject Debut Carbon!
Here’s the link to the Project Debut Carbon, £279:
Pro-Ject - Debut Carbon DC (Black) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00IIMXATU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_Y7ATX0A3YF12K2N0VJ1Q?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I think it’s quite a lot cheaper than the EVOs that I saw
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC £279. Then use a phono stage preamp between the turntable and headphone amp.
In the UK?
Rega Planar 1 is built in the UK high component and build quality and easy setup plug and play.
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC adds adjustable tracking force and a better cartridge.
LP120X is ok if you don't mind a hollow plastic plinth. Pass on the basic Lenco L-3808.
Is this the Debut Carbon you're talking about? You said its better than Essential 3 but is this better than the RT82? So far the only thing i've heard that's bad on the rt82 is the arm and that the turntable mat is rubber and that's why i've also been looking at pro-ject.
I'm not familiar with the House of Marley, but a solid turntable in your price range is the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon: https://www.amazon.com/Pro-Ject-Debut-Carbon-Piano-Black/dp/B00IIMXATU
It's minimalist for sure, and it punches above its weight for the price. You won't find a cheaper turntable with a carbon fiber tonearm, and it comes with an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge. For a direct comparison, we can look at wow and flutter, which are measures of distortion in a turntable. Wow and flutter for the Pro-Ject is .10%, where the House of Marley has a wow and flutter of .30%.
Do keep in mind that if you decide to go with the Pro-Ject, you'll need need a receiver with a phono stage or a dedicated phono amplifier in order to use it, since it doesn't have that built in.
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC. It has a carbon tone arm and a Ortofon 2M Red cartridge. It also has an easy upgrade path if you want to tweak later. Make sure your receiver has a phono input, or else you'll need a preamp (another $40-80.)

It seems to be a well received table around here. A bit of a step up from the entry level options like the U-Turn Orbit. I gave it a lot of consideration but ultimately went with the Orbit. The only consistent complaint is that it appears a lot of people get hum on this table. Supposedly the DC version of this reduced (or eliminated) that particular issue, so if you go new, you may want to opt for that model:

UK built Rega Planar 1 £249 is easy setup plug and play.
The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC £279 adds adjustable anti-skate and a better cartridge.

Okay, well this is from the US Amazon site but it comes out to $500 USD, or $635 CAD
Turntable: Pro-Ject Debut Carbon
Phono Preamplifier: Pro-Ject Phono Box DC
I'd use the remaining funds on up-keep & accessories like a carbon fiber brush, a cork mat and a stylus cleaner
Það væri næs að fá fleiri upplýsingar hjá þér, auk þess er þetta rosalega lágt budget ef þig langar í plötuspilara af einhverju viti, nema þig langi að fara í gamalt og/eða notað, því fylgir þó því viðvörun að gamlir og/eða notaðir plötuspilarar eru ekki í stöðugri sölu, amk ekki á Íslenskum mörkuðum, og auðvitað að gamlir og góðir plötuspilarar breytast lítið í verði ef þeim er viðhaldið almennilega.

VIltu geta skipt um cartridge/haus? Þú getur held ég nánast undantekningalaust alltaf skipt um nál, en að geta skipt um cartridge/haus er lúxus, sem og að fá plötuspilara sem er ekki með innbyggðum formagnara.
Viltu geta tengt spilarann við venjuleg hljómtæki eða viltu tengja hann beint við tölvu með usb?

Stutt gúgl skilaði annars þessari síðu.

the turntable to buy in the UK is the high quailty built in the UK [Rega Planar 1](https://www.hifigear.co.uk/rega-planar1.html). It's easy setup beginner plug and play.Or the [Pro-ject Debut Carbon](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pro-Ject-Debut-Carbon-DC-Black/dp/B00IIMXATU) has easier adjustments and a better cartridge. Like the Fluance and AT turntables balance the tonearm then set the tracking force.
Usually only entry level turntables have a built in phono stage preamp and they are usually basic entry level $10 in parts.
The good starter turntable to buy in the UK is the built in the UK high quailty Rega Planar 1 and it's easy setup beginner plug and play. In the USA it costs much more at $525!
Or the Pro-ject Debut Carbon has easier adjustments and a better cartridge. Balance the tonearm and set the tracking force.
The A500 is a good integrated amp to start with.
If neither the turntable nor the receiver or integrated amp has a built in phono stage preamp then you will need an external one:
Setup Guide: Turntable, Phono Preamp, Amp or Receiver, Speakers
TurntableL
The older RT81 is not worth buying anymore since the newer RT82 adds an optical sensor speed controlled servo motor for much lower wow and flutter and speed variation and the speed won't drift since the sensor is monitoring the speed 400 times a second.
The good starter turntable to buy in the UK is the built in the UK high quailty Rega Planar 1 and it's easy setup beginner plug and play. In the USA it costs much more at $525!
Or the Pro-ject Debut Carbon has easier adjustments and a better cartridge. Like on the RT82 balance the tonearm and set the tracking force.
Then for the Planar 1, RT82 or Debut Carbon connect it to an external phono stage preamp if not using a receiver or integrated amp with a phono input. If low on budget you can start with a basic Behringer PP400 that is the same or a bit better quailty as the one in the RT81. Or a step up is the Art DJ Pre II.
If you must have a built in phono stage preamp for some reason, external is usually preferred for more choices and isolation from the turntable, then the Audio-Technica AT-LPW50PB has the same speed sensor motor as the RT82 and it also has the 33/45 speed switch if you must have that if you are changing speeds often.
Powered speakers:
If you must have small 4" mid bass driver powered speakers for a small room then Tibo 3.1 at least look better than the Edifiers and may sound a bit better too.
Amp and passive speakers:
With a separate amp and passive speakers that you can later upgrade one part at a time.
Speaker amplification with Bluetooth:
Plus passive speakers that are a step up from the Edifiers:
Plus speaker wire then How to Install Speaker Wire and How To Strip Speaker Wire.

>too low quality and have wow and flutter
Cheap turntables have high wow and flutter.
The older Fluance RT80 and RT81 have 0.20% wow and flutter.
The newer improved RT82 adds an optical sensor speed controlled servo motor for very low wow and flutter of 0.07%, low speed variation, and the speed won't drift since the
A great value in the UK is the high quality made in the UK Rega Planar 1 that is easy setup beginner plug and play or look for a used one under £200.
Or the Pro-ject Debut Carbon has easier adjustments and a better cartridge. Balance the tonearm and set the tracking force.
If you need to buy under £200 then:
Automatic turntables with a hollow plastic plinth:
Manual turntable with an MDF plinth:

Edifier are powered speakers with a built in speaker amp.
The £150 Edifiers will be a sound quality bottleneck for the £300 turntable. Ideally spend just as much or more on speakers as on the turntable or buy a used receiver or amp and passive speakers for half the cost.
For the turntable you can good prices on better Rega and Pro-ject in the UK.
Rega Planar 1 is built in the UK, is higher quailty, and is easy setup plug and play.
Or the Pro-ject Debut Carbon has easier adjustments and a better cartridge.
Then connect either one to a Sony stereo receiver with a built in phono stage preamp and Bluetooth.
Or for lower cost a Fosi Audio BT20A £75 with Bluetooth plus a phono stage preamp: Behringer-PP400 £17 plus an RCA cable.
Either option above to power passive speakers:
>I’m not coming into this as a huge audiophile ....but I’m a little pensive about the quality of the cartridge.
If you are concerned about quailty then you are an audiophile.
What is the rest of your setup, amplification and speakers?
Pass on both the RT81 and T1.
If you want a Pro-ject get the better Pro-ject Debut Carbon (DC). The lower level T1 lacks user adjustable anti-skate and has higher wow and flutter.
If you want a Fluance then get the better new improved Fluance RT82 that adds the new optical sensor speed controlled servo motor for much lower wow and flutter and the speed won't drift since the sensor is monitoring the speed 400 times a second.
Or the turntable to get in the UK is the built in the UK Rega Planar 1 that is high quailty and easy setup beginner plug and play.
Then if you are not using a receiver or amp with a phono input connect a small inexpensive or better phono stage preamp:
Or a step up:

In the UK get the built in the UK high quality Rega Planar 1 and it's easy setup beginner plug and play. It costs much more at $525 in the USA! Or check a local dealer for a used Planar 2 or 3 trade in.
If you want Pro-ject then get the Debut Carbon (DC). The next step up is the EVO.
Yes, however the Samsung speakers will be a sound quality bottleneck until you can upgrade to a better stereo or AV receiver or integrated amp and some better passive speakers.
You don't need to spend $50 extra for the Bluetooth version of the turntable. You can connect the standard AT-LP120X with the included RCA cable to the RCA audio input on the back of the Samsung.
For a turntable in the UK you can get a great price on the higher quality built in the UK easy setup plug and play Rega Planar 1. It costs 35% more in the USA.
Or a Pro-ject Debut Carbon.
Plus a phono stage premap for either of them to connect between the turntable and the Samsung shelf system.
Or get an upgraded amp or stereo receiver with a built in or external phono stage preamp plus a much better pair of speakers.
Speakers:
Plus speaker wire. https://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-16-Gauge-Speaker-Wire-1-3/dp/B006LW0W5Y then How to Install Speaker Wire and How To Strip Speaker Wire.
Setup guide: Turntable, Phono Preamp, Amp or Receiver, Speakers

Pass on the Plus since it lacks a switch to every bypass the built in phono stage preamp.
Get the standard Rega Planar 1.
Or a Pro-jet:
Speakers:
Setup guide: Turntable, Phono Preamp, Amp or Receiver, Speakers
Audio Guides, Speaker Stands and Placement, Accessories and Vinyl Care
Pass on the Sony that is not any better than the AT-LP60X that costs less.
If you want a Pro-jet then pass on their lowest cost Primary and spend a bit more for a better Project:
Or a high quailty built in the UK Rega Planar 1 that is easy setup beginner plug and play. Or look for a used Planar 1 for under £175.
Speakers:
Setup guide: Turntable, Phono Preamp, Amp or Receiver, Speakers
Audio Guides, Speaker Stands and Placement, Accessories and Vinyl Care
The AT-LP120 is discontinued and £80 below retail for a used one is not that great of a deal especially if it needs a new stylus.
The AT-LP120 was replaced by new X versions.
AT-LP120X for home listening.
AT-LP1*40*X adds DJ features for DJ use.
In the UK consider a high quality built in the UK Rega Planar 1 that is easy setup beginner plug and play. Or look for a used one under 175.
If you must have Audio Technica for some reason then AT-LPW50PB.
Or the similar Fluance RT82 adds auto stop. Pass on the older RT81 and RT80 that lack the new speed sensor that the RT82 has. Pass on the RT83 since the cartridge is not any better.

Why not a high quality built in the UK Rega Planar 1? Great value at £275 in the UK. In the USA it's $475 which converts to £375.
Or an Austrian/Czech Pro-ject Debut Carbon?
The Fluance RT82 £299 and AT-LPW50PB £299 are likely both made in the same Chinese factory and they both seem to have the same optical sensor speed controlled servo motor. The RT82 has auto stop and lower wow and flutter since the belt is on the outside of the platter. The AT-LPW50PB has a basic built in phono stage preamp.
For a low budget you will be looking for entry level components that are good enough to start with to be in you budget and not worrying

Option 1:
Pick a good £225 to £299 turntable without a built in phono stage preamp and then a low cost stereo setup that you can upgrade later. Or look for a used stereo setup.
Rega Planar 1 is built in the UK and high quality easy setup beginner plug and play.
Austrian/Czech Pro-ject:
Option 2:
A £129 low cost entry level turntable with a built in phono stage preamp and spend the rest on a good stereo setup for the best sound quality since speakers will make the most difference.
Option 3:
A decent £199 to £219 turntable with a built in phono stage preamp and a decent stereo setup.

Speakers:
Powered speakers:
Amp and passive speakers: More flexible so you can optionally later upgrade one part at a time:
Amplification:
Any of the above to power passive speakers:
Under £100:
Better 5.25":
Larger 6.5":
Plus speaker wire. OFC Speaker Wire or lower cost CCA then How to Install Speaker Wire and How To Strip Speaker Wire.

Used: Or look for a used stereo or AV receiver or integrated amp. In the UK one brand to look for is Cambridge Audio. Plus a pair of used passive speakers.

Phono stage preamp:
If you get a Rega or Pro-ject turntable without a built in phono stage preamp and you are not getting a receiver or integrated amp with a built in phono stage preamp then connect an external phono preamp to the turntable:

Which model Bose speaker? It will likely be a sound quailty bottleneck for a turntable. Your a musician and that is what you listen to music on?
The Rega Planar 1 is a far better turntable than the Sony.
To give you an idea on how good a value the Rega Planar 1 is in the UK:
Basically the higher quailty Planar 1 is worth twice the cost of the Sony.

I recommend turntable, receiver, passive speakers:
Turntable:
Receiver with a built in phono stage preamp so you don't need a separate external one:
Either to power passive speakers:
Under £100 passive speakers:
Better 5.25" passive speakers:
Larger 6.5" passive speakers:
Or look for a used stereo or AV receiver or integrated amp. In the UK one brand to look for is Cambridge Audio.
Plus speaker wire.

If you want lower cost powered speakers for a small room:
The Denon 4700 has a built in phono stage preamp via the Phono input so you don't need a separate one.
The high quality easy setup plug and play Rega Planar 1 is built in the UK.
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC or Debut III S Audiophile are still a decent value compared to the newer improved Debut Carbon EVO for 150 more that adds a speed switch and a better platter and bearings.
If you want Audio Technica then the better AT-LPW50PB or even the AT-LPW40 instead of the AT-LPW30.
Yes ok, but I think he needs a whole system here, so that leaves just $150! Found a Klipsch R-15PM for $250, a powered speaker that actually has a phono input. So what table for $400? I guess this used Debut Carbon DC will do. Might sound halfway decent.
The Primary is £179, however pass on it since the wow and flutter is high.
Isn't the Audio Technica LPW30 £219 and the Planar 1 £249?
Planar 1 is the best option of your choices.
If you want Pro-ject:
What are your speakers?
Consider spending more on the turntable and much less on the phono stage premap and upgrade the preamp later.
Planar 1 is high quality. Debut III adds adjustable anti skate and a better cartridge.
Consider spending more on the turntable and much less on the phono stage premap and upgrade the preamp later.
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO is a worth while improvement.
Or the Planar 2 adds adjustable bias over the Planar 1.
For the phono stage preamp you can start with a Hama or TC-750 and upgrade later.

Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC or Pro-Ject Essential III A are both good.
The DC has a bit better speed control. The aluminum tonearm on the Essential may be a bit better than the carbon one and it has the cool looking acrylic platter. The cartridges are basically the same, previous and newer version is most of the difference.
Pass on the Sony PSHX500.
UK built Rega Planar 1 £179 slight seconds or Rega Planar 1 £249 are high quality easy setup plug and play with a basic cartridge.
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC £299 adds adjustable anti-skate and a better cartridge.

Better turntables over budget are the high quality built in the UK Rega Planar 1 that is easy setup beginner plug and play or the Pro-Ject Essential III and the Debut Carbon DC both add adjustable anti-skate and a better cartridge over the Planar 1.
Audio-Technica LPW30TK £195 after cash back.

In the UK? Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC £279.
In the USA?
The new improved Debut Carbon EVO $499 includes the $150 Sumiko Rainer cartridge.

Question about what speakers to get!
The TT I have: Pro-ject Debut Carbon
The pre-amp I have: Pro-ject MM

Which speakers under $600 would you recommend? I would love Bluetooth but I heard this impacts the vinyl sound quality? Please help!
No or just the stuff that is not desirable goes on sale.
Also don't buy the T1 since it's not very good. it has the same high wow and flutter as the basic AT-LP60X!
If you want Pro-ject save up for the better Debut Carbon DC (Black) or the Pro-Ject (Debut III S Audiophile (White) is a bit better for the same price.
Or Rega Planar 1 built in the UK is good quality and easy setup beginner plug and play.
If you must have a built in phono stage preamp starting under £200:

Audio-Technica LP5X £299.

Turntable source is unusually quiet:
I recently purchased a setup that includes the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC turntable (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IIMXATU), the Fosi BT20A integrated amplifier (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BQC7GNL), and KEF Q150 speakers (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0728GJWD9). My issue is that audio specifically from the new turntable is significantly quieter than from other sources. I've tried the amplifier's built-in Bluetooth and other phono sources, and it's easy to turn them up to the point where it would drown out casual conversation, and I'd rather not risk cranking it all the way. Meanwhile, the turntable with volume entirely maxed out, while not whisper quiet, is nowhere near as loud. I've tried swapping phono cables, switching the polarity, rebalancing the tonearm, and plugging the turntable into a different power source without effect. The bass and treble controls on the amp increase the volume a little, but the volume always seems to hit a ceiling at around the 2 o' clock position. Am I just a dummy that should have purchased a preamp or missed an obvious mistake, or is something wrong here?
Thanks for your help!

Looks like it might be this one Pro-Ject - Debut Carbon DC (Piano Black)
Upvotes for Pearl Jam!
As far as the standard DC; it's a very minor inconvenience. You simply lift the platter off, move the belt to the 45rpm position on the spindle, and put the platter back on.
You can also get the Pro-Ject Speed Box later on if you went with a non-automatic and wanted to add that capability.
It really all comes down to preference. If you didn't go the route of the the Espirit package, you have more room to play and can always add on the features in that combo later.
For instance, you could go with the following (assuming you have a preference for the Pro-Ject and Ortofon carts:
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC: $400
Ortofon 2M Bronze: $440
Pro-Ject Phono Box S: $150
Total would be $990. You wouldn't have the acrylic platter ($100 to buy separately) and you wouldn't have auto-speed change (noted above, you could get the speed box later if it was too much of an annoyance). But the Bronze is a big jump over the Blue, and I did not find the platter change to give much (if any) of a sound improvement.
Personally, I'd prioritize the cartridge above most other things. Whether that's an Ortofon or something else in a similar range to the bronze.
But, at the end of the day, it's all subjective to each person. If you think the speed control and platter are must haves, and the Blue will be good enough for your system, then that TTL is definitely a good deal with the bonus accessories and it will sound good too.
Hope that all helps a bit!
Is this a decent initial set up? Thank you!!!
I want to get a decent first set up, without spending a crazy amount of money... I am just making sure that if I get these 3 things I will be able to play my vinyl and have decent quality for the price...

Thank you!!
This Project DC Carbon is a great table at a moderate price. Got mine used at a local store for 300.
I'm trying to build a simple setup, using this turntable:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IIMXATU?psc=1&smid=A2XGE4CX5AV74X
connected with RCA cables to these speakers:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A7J534G/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1FVGXDO8NIMN0&psc=1
The way I understand it is, the turntable requires a preamp, but the speakers have phono inputs so I won't need one. Further, I won't need an amplifier or receiver since the speakers are active. Will this setup work? Thanks!

Hey guys. I need a new turntable.
I have a Yamaha A-S801 driving a pair of Klipsch RF-7ii
I'm deciding between a Pro-ject DC Carbon and a Rega Planar 2
I'm leaning towards the Pro-ject to save some money. Do you think this is the wise choice or will I be missing out?
Heyy Reddit, so I've recently rekindled my love for Vinyl and I want to completely upgrade my entire setup. Right now I've got an entry level Sony turntable that's served me well, hooked up to an old pair of Logitech computer speakers I've had forever. Also have a 55inch Sony LED and PS4. Been working nearly 70 hours a week recently so that O/T needs to go to good use!
Looking to get the -Pro-Ject Debut Carbon-Vinyl Turntable ( https://www.amazon.com/Pro-Ject-Debut-Carbon-DC-Black/dp/B00IIMXATU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1476371389&sr=8-3&keywords=pro-ject+debut+carbon)
-Denon Receiver (https://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVR-S720W-Channel-Receiver-Bluetooth/dp/B01CRYWWFC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1476371433&sr=8-1&keywords=denon+avr-s720w)
Will also get a Phono Preamp for the TT.
Just wondering what you guys think about this setup? Also I know these speakers are bi-amp capable, I'm assuming the receiver is as well, but it doesn't seem to be specified as so. Oh and sorry for the stupid long Amazon links. Any opinions / feedback etc would be appreciated!

Totally new to all of this. Can I run a Pro-ject Debut Carbon straight into an av receiver like the Sony STRDH550 and have to work, or do I need some kind of phono preamp? What even is a phono preamp?
So i'm guessing you can't buy a vintage receiver in your area? If so, I would recommend:

I'm honestly shooting in the dark here and going mostly off of reviews. Any and all help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers!
