Yes it’s okay to wear over your scar - my hospital provided me one right after surgery. It’s a big, wide elastic strap that goes around your waist.
Not exactly a response to your question as I didn't try the Dia Method, but I had pretty bad DR (little over 3 inches/3.5 fingers) and my physical therapist just had me doing a very simple exercise called abdominal splinting and its shrunk down now to under 2 fingers in a few months.
I found it very helpful to buy an elastic abdominal binder (got mine on amazon for 13 dollars) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010E7MR6S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 but you can use a sheet/towel to help bind your belly together while doing the exercise if you don't want to get the elastic binder.
Here are the instructions my PT wrote up for me:
Lie on your back with knees bent, towel or sheet under low back (or wear elastic binder). Grasp each end of the sheet with the arm on the opposite side and pull across mid section to support abdominals (or use elastic binder). Lift head and top of shoulders to look toward feet, lower & repeat. Make sure you maintain support with towel.
So essentially its just a mini crunch without really lifting your torso at all. I sometimes put my hands behind my neck to support as it can get kind of irritated while doing the exercise. I started this for 3 minutes twice a day and worked my way up to 5 minutes twice a day.
My PT warned me not to use the binder for anything but the exercise, or if I was doing anything that really bothered my abs or back like vacuuming etc. She just said not to use it too frequently if using it for things other than the exercises.
Spanks or binders... got mine off amazon.
