Grab yourself one of these and use it while reading, watching TV, etc. https://www.amazon.com/Generic-Gripmaster-Hand-Exerciser/dp/B0085MX3SG
I noticed a pretty nice increase in pinky strength after about a week. I still use it to keep my hand strength up, for both hands.
Get a Gripmaster and start using it, both hands. I used to sprain a thumb every week before I got one, and now I haven't sprained any finger in over a year. You can use it while watching TV or in class, it's pretty awesome.
I bought a Grip Master Heavy Tension by Prohands in 2008 and it was the best $30 I ever spent. When all my friends pussy out trying to load magazines by hand, I'm racking them up like its nothing.
It works. I find myself using it at any spare moment. Get it.
My mother was about the same, she wanted something but had issue with a few things. 5'4", Weak arms, arthritis, recoil shy, loud noise shy.
I got her a grip master to help with the grip and a small bar weight (1lb i think). Got her an ultra lite 38spl 5 shot, weights less than a pound loaded and got her a class in pistol shooting with it and reloaded mild 158grs to practice all she wants.
She wants to use a semi auto but doesn't have the hand strength to operate the slide yet, my plan is to find a used pistol I can slap a tacrack or something like that on to let her easy rack.
TL;DR get a taurus 85lite, charter arms 38 undercover, 380 pocket pistol, or 9mm if she can handle it.
If for home defense a light/laser rail could be a plus.
I also found that a finger trainer helped me develop the muscles in my fingers: http://www.amazon.com/Gripmaster-Hand-Exerciser/dp/B0085MX3SG

i reccomend this, blue or red
You might consider trying one of these. Guitarists use them to increase finger dexterity. It might help you increase your clicking speed over time.

Something like this would work- (http://www.amazon.com/Outdoor-Research-Gripmaster-Hand-Exerciser/dp/B0085MX3SG) or my local store always has these balls that you can get as well.
A gripmaster (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0085MX3SG/) might be useful so you can focus on individual fingers.
Funny that you posted this, I just bought this yesterday http://www.amazon.com/Gripmaster-Hand-Exerciser/dp/B0085MX3SG
Gripmasters. Accept no substitutes. I use a red.
Get a Grip Master. Most music shops have them. The Heavy one is made for bass fingers.
