There's a field for this... it's called marketing analysis which uses statistic. You should look into that and it's on coursera.
There's also a great book in R for it too. You should google it, it's in it's second edition.
I'm taking the ~~coursera~~ edx course for it for fun and the book is also on my reading list (for fun).
