It seems like you have a decent grasp on what to do next, but in the meantime I’m of the opinion that you should have your windows blocked at all times. It seems like someone is watching you. There is this rainbow window film that you can cover your windows with for privacy, and as a bonus it tosses pretty rainbows around the room when the light comes through. We just upgraded from wax paper on windows facing or neighbors to this rainbow prism privacy film. It was because the kiddos saw it in a video and demanded we upgrade.

My sister has this stuff up on the bottom half of one of her living room windows and there’s still lots of light, but also rainbows!

I have that EXACT same pattern window film on all three picture windows in my living room. You can even see the edge of the film at the bottom of the window, where you cut it too short. You most likely bought it on Amazon like I did.

I really recommend window film (the static cling ones, not the adhesive type), since it blocks your view and gives you privacy like blinds or curtains, but still lets in natural light, so your apartment doesn't feel like a cave all the time. I use a rainbow film by Rabbitgoo I got off of amazon for like 20 bucks, and I really recommend it. Also agreeing with everyone else, keep your windows closed

Thank you! This panel is 11.5 in wide and a bit over 12 in tall- it’s one solid piece (I used a 12x24 mat), but I think you could definitely do multiple pieces if you wanted something bigger. I stuck the vinyl onto window cling material so it’s fully removable (I actually took this one down recently so I had more space for my Halloween and fall decor- I’ll put it back up in the spring!). It is kind of annoying to stick down a large amount of vinyl by yourself without bubbling, so if you’re doing anything bigger than this it would be very useful to have an extra set of hands!
I've also seen window films that look like stained glass or that have a kaleidoscope-type pattern like this one! It might add a little more color to the room if that matches what you were wanting for the nursery.
I got a rainbow decorative film from Amazon that is great! Easy to put on with a little water, stays on forever (well, 5 years now with no problems), and it casts little rainbows on the floor all over my room!

That’s the link for the stuff I use! It’s super reasonably priced and I have had nothing but phenomenal results with it. :) take a squeegee of some sort so you make sure to get any bubbles out from under the film when you apply it and you should have great results!

I am intrigued by the question. I would like to install an egress window myself. I don’t want to buy one of those plastic preformed things. Previously I had obscured the view from the basement windows, they make a film that you can put on the windows, it doesn’t seriously decrease the amount of light but it makes the windows translucent, If you don’t want to look at plastic and rocks. I would wish that I could install a mirror at a 45° angle and have a nonstop view of blue sky and clouds. I realize this is a fire egress window. They make acrylic mirrors. The 45° angle we could potentially suck with rain, snow and leaves.
don’t put plants on your radiator if you’re using it! aside from the fire hazard, most indoor plants HATE dry, hot air blowing on them.

Not that you're going to go in and recommend this to the homeowners, but just in case anybody whose dog does this is reading, here's a great solution. I worked hard to train my dogs not to do this at my old house; it wasn't right up on the sidewalk but I had big floor to ceiling windows and they barked every time someone walked by. No matter what I did, they just felt the need to protect the home. They would stop when I told them to, but nothing I could do about it when I wasn't home.
Until I installed this Window Privacy Film. It comes in a ton of different designs, adheres easily with just water, and is easily removable in case you rent. It prevents the dog from seeing out the window, you can apply it just up as high as you need to, and it literally stopped the issue immediately.

An actual door to the outside? Is the window frosted? I would put a cling on it...I’ve used this one before and it was beautiful, but there are many more you can find online. You can’t see through it at all. It lets light in but with our lighting etc you couldn’t see shapes from the outside looking in.

There are privacy screens you can put on your window that allow light in but people can't see through them. Have one on my bedroom window and I love it. Ican leave the blinds open no matter my state of dress.

Hey, for the window you can get inexpensive window decals that will add a decorative touch, privacy, and easy to remove. Plants are an inexpensive way to create a homey vibe and it add colour as well. I would turn the ikea bookshelf on its side to give you more room to place things and give the illusion of length For the kitchen/dining nook, keep it simple as its a small space. A fun runner could work here as well,keeping in mind cabinet colours. You can add a chalk board or anything interactive to the walls that you can change occasionally.

Rainbow symphony is more expensive and less of a privacy film, it's pretty see thru. BUT the rainbows are absolutely incredible with that one. Rabbitgoo has nice rainbows too but rainbow symphony has phenomenal rainbows.
So, I mix and match. I use mostly rabbitgoo for the privacy, and put smaller portions of rainbow symphony to get the super vivid rainbows. Nice thing about the latter is you don't need a lot to get the rainbows, so it can be a small bit of the window.

Disney prints: I bought a set of 12 prints at Disneyland for $30 ~5 years ago. I waited to frame them because I couldn't find 12"x18" frames for a reasonable price. This year, I found multipacks of those frames at Walmart and I was able to frame all 12 for about $30, so up they went (finally! I was so happy!)
Couch: $600 small sectional at Cort (outlet). It lasted us a good 3 years before it really started showing its age, I extended it another year by draping it with sheets or blankets that could be washed regularly. cheap couches definitely aren't built to last. if you won't need one for more than a few years, just get a shitty one.
Curtains: I bought mismatched but color-coordinated sets at HomeGoods for $10-15 per pair of panels.
Pillows: have been collected over the years; instead of throwing out existing pillows, just re-cover them. There are a lot of great cushion/pillow covers on Amazon; you can also find them deeply discounted from chain retailers (like Pottery Barn, West Elm, etc.) in their clearance sections more often than not. Or you can make your own with old t-shirts or crochet!
