In "Racing Weight: How to Get Lean for Peak Performance", Matt Fitzgerald talks about how former body builder and now professional triathlete T.J. Tollakson put himself on a 1,200 calorie a day diet to lose 35 pounds of muscle in a matter of weeks as he knew that the excess muscle would slow him down just as much as excess fat. 45 miles last week. 40 of those miles way below any of my race paces. Really focusing on just building up a good base of miles so that I'm ready for my training block starting in mid January.
Diet wise... I took the week off of worrying about my diet. I've relaxed. Ate a bit more than I'm accustomed too and just taken a breather.
I'm changing things up and trying to apply some of the philosophies of Racing Weight with my established routine of counting calories. We'll see how that goes.
Also... I'll be stepping down as a Mod after the New Year and with the freedom of time that will give me I'm curious if anyone would like to utilize a group chat. I've found the mod chat we run through Facebook messenger to be hugely beneficial as we're able to connect with others who have a similar issue and pursuit and get nearly immediate feedback. If anyone is interested in something similar we can use the already active Loseit Facebook Group to set it up.
Consider reading racing weight he does a pretty good job of breaking down how to compute your dietary needs while slimming down.
If you haven't read Matt Fitzgerald's Racing Weight I would suggest doing so.
Too significant of a calorie deficit will significantly impede your training and performance.
I haven't read it personally, but this one is pretty popular.
