These Rada Cutlery knives are inexpensive, dishwasher safe, and really, really sharp (and hold an edge well). I have Wusthof trident and other more expensive knives, but I come back to these time and again. The blades are a little thin, but that's not a problem in normal use. The only time I need a heavier knife is when I quarter a chicken, and I use my butcher knife for that.
I would get the starter set and a sharpener like a Chef's Choice and you will not be sorry.
