It's easy to catch them by putting some fermenting fruit, like a banana, in a bottle. Once they are in you can close the lid and carry them outside, then release them. That's what I do. Also flies are slow and lands frequently. So it's easy to catch them with something like this humane live insect trap. These things require you to be there and do it manually though. But I would avoid automated traps, because these tend to harm them.
The best way how to avoid them is by making sure they do not come in to begin with. The best way to do this are insect nets that you can attach on your windows and door frames. They don't just keep mosquitoes out but also other insects like flies. But small flies sometimes fly through the nets though. So it's important to not leave out any fruit or other food that attracts them - keep your fruits in a fridge or seal them in an air tight container; don't just leave them sitting in a bow on a kitchen table as a decoration.
And then there are also odor repellants. Flies hate the smell of lavender, lemongrass, peppermint. You can buy automates devices that spray air freshener in surroundings like this one (just change the odor, cos citronella is for mosquitoes). Or you can buy scented candles or essential oils. Put them around entrance points like windows.
Apart from repellents that can be sprayed on skin/furniture/clothing there are also ones that you can leave around entrance points, that spray repellant in automated internals. Something like this for example - https://www.amazon.com/Mosquito-Thermacell-Repellent-Rechargeable-DEET-Free/dp/B07KSK7DQM/
Like that, unlike those skin sprays, they will protect the whole area rather than just surface. Some of them work better than others, but I have used those and they have worked really well for me. You can also use scented citronella candles, albeit they are less effective. But still work great in my experience.
I don;t know what to recommend when on the move, but most recommend applying every few hours and I bet thats not good for the pupper.
But if you need to be protected withing 6 feet radius, I recommend:
