Sorry you’re having to deal with this. When our place had roaches we used this and it actually worked really well. Says it’s ok for pets.

Calm down, take a breath. If you need to, sleep on the couch for the night. I'm a NYC native and I find this terrifying and gross.

Some tips from someone who lives in the projects. Extermination only works if they check the cabinets, closets and baseboards for holes. If they just come and spray, they're useless.
This system works. It's a lot of work, but thankfully it's been successful:

• Check all the bedroom baseboards for holes, use caulk to fill any.
• If you have open windows spray this around them. The fact that it's oil means it lasts for a while and doesn't evaporate. I spray it around my window sills and front door weekly.
• Use Diatomaceous Earth, food grade, and sprinkle it around the baseboards and anywhere else you may think they may gain access. This is pet safe so you can actually use it everywhere. It is not bait, so it doesn't attract them, it simply kills them if they walk through it. You can also use it in utensil drawers and around dishes. If some gets on a fork, you can just rinse it off.
• Take a screwdriver and unscrew all the lightswitch plates and drop a tablet or two of this into the wall. You can put tablets anywhere you may see them, provided it's not out in the open. This is not pet safe, it is poison, so do not use it where pets may get to it. It also had a bait in it, so don't use it in the bedroom.
• Combat for small roaches and large ones goes in the bathroom and kitchen, again, if you have pets, only in areas they cannot reach as it's not pet safe.
• Note that all of the above needs to be repeated every six months.
• Dry out all your sinks and tub at night. Roaches are attracted to water, so make sure to have a towel on hand to dry out everything before you go to bed.
• Cover drains at night. This goes hand in hand with drying sinks.
• Do not drop off your laundry, especially bedding. If you must, take note of where there store the bags. Ask them to double bag your stuff in a plastic bad after it's done. A lot of places just store bags on the floor, which is an invitation for roaches.
• Tell, do not ask, but firmly demand your building notify you of any extermination that's happening in adjacent apartments, next door, above or below you. When they do that, the roaches head for the hills and your apartment will be the hills.
• Never eat in the bedroom.
• Finally, I store everything in my apartment that's not in a jar or a can in a ziplock or canister. Pasta is in canisters, mac and cheese goes in a gallon bag, you can find them at Dollar tree.
