not sure if it is exactly the same but this is the one i have that is very close to the one in the video https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OOYECC/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_CWhcGbERWJG98?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1. I already owned it before it got my case but it turned out to be a perfect fit, and ergonomically very pleasant to use.
Use this for the laptop. Try to find a tray to keep your desk organized (and dresser).
None of your posters are framed. They're cheap from walmart or you can find them on Amazon.
I'd go for a different blanket than the one you currently have. A light color like gray to contrast with the bed you have.
Ninja edit: Stick a small plant on your dresser.
I have this, which I use to keep it at a height so I don't have to slouch at my desk. Though it doesn't seem to get quite as high as the ones you are indicating, I love it.
Hi I'm one of those twelve people. I love my Touch Bar as well (with the addition of BTT as well). I always wished apple would've released a magic keyboard with Touch Bar.
I don't have a comparable solution but at my home office with my MacBook in external clamshell mode I rely a lot more on my Wacom tablet with express keys. These are hard keys that can be programmed for anything (specific to each application), a scroll wheel for multiple functions, and two buttons on the pen itself. You can also build powerful on screen menus. I know that this is a weird proposal if you are not a creative but I find the pen to be a superior input device. It is a lot more natural, ergonomic (no more wrist pain!), and accurate. Even for office, web browsing and non creative work.
The other thing I noticed when I'm at my girlfriends house and don't have my full office setup is that I actually prefer my 16" MacBook with Touch Bar on a stand. Yes the screen is smaller but it is a better screen, the keyboard feels better, the speakers are amazing, the Touch Bar is right there and there is something very zen feeling about the minimal setup. A weird suggestion to you since you just bought a nice large monitor.
Similar to what /u/CompetitiveRuin suggested you could alternatively offset your large monitor to the side and use your MacBook Pro opened as the primary display and input (using stand mentioned above) and that keeps your Touch Bar right there. I know it sounds weird but I actually like this setup in my home office especially since my large monitor doesn't have a webcam and it looks like I'm not paying attention when it is used as the primary monitor.
So cute advisor!
Where is your mouse? Do you use keyboard only ? :) :)
Though, the ergonomic keyboard is great!
Why not use the external screen as a main one and put it in front? And you can put a laptop to a special holder, so it'll be located closer to you (easier to read the data).
I noticed one thing when my main monitor were placed on the side.. I've got a neck pain :(
Thanks! I’ve had it for about 10 years!
Rain Design 10032 mStand Laptop Stand, Silver (Patented), Ergonomic Aluminum Computer Riser for Office or Home Desk Setup, Compatible with MacBook Air Pro https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OOYECC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_8878C66DESTZ661Q0HYG?psc=1
I have this one https://www.amazon.com/Rain-Design-mStand-Laptop-Patented/dp/B000OOYECC
There is an amazon stand that is very similar for about half the price. I like it. Raises the laptop stand to be at a good height with my other monitors, adds a bit of storage space underneath and acts as a heat sink as well.
The laptop stand is an earlier generation of the mStand Laptop Stand. https://www.amazon.com/Rain-Design-mStand-Laptop-Patented/dp/B000OOYECC/ref=pd_ybh_a_14?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=25D5W86101KBTKB3R19W
Before that I was using an in-cabinet organizer from the kitchen section at Target. It worked well, but it didn't hold the computer high enough. The benefit of that stand is that two small plastic bins (also from the Target kitchen organization aisle) fit underneath where I could store random cables and stuff.
Great work! Do yourself a favor and get a laptop stand (I have the Rain mStand one for my MacBook). It will complete the dual monitor setup!!
Edit: product name. Can be found here
Those msi laptops love breathing room. I have this stand https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OOYECC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It has a hole in the back for cable management and is made of aluminum so it acts like a heat sink and gives your fans room to breath on either side of the laptop.
Sure, but who cares about custom messages on a laptop stand? It's still not going to look good. Something like this laptop stand looks way better and is even cheaper.
Definitely not a good idea to run the computer with the lid closed for long periods of time. The problem is the ventilation. The heat has nowhere to go when the lid is closed so the fans are going to run overtime to try and compensate. Maybe invest in something like this to get the computer out of the way.
It's pretty funny they call their line FIND. If I had to guess, Amazon just looks at what kind of clothes people purchase the most on their site and then they're copying the style and selling them for cheap.
They do this a lot with other items.
For example, this laptop stand was a best seller and made a killing on Amazon. So Amazon found a manufacturer to make it super cheaply and halved the price.
Original - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OOYECC Amazon's - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WRDS0AU
Not their exact stand, but here is one similar that I purchased.
i had my palette on one of these, it was just about perfectly raised and angled https://www.amazon.com/Rain-Design-mStand-Laptop-Patented/dp/B000OOYECC
I think the laptop stand is Rain Design mStand. Not twelvesouth.
I think the laptop stand is Rain Design mStand. Not twelvesouth.
It is the Griffin Elevator as another redditor mentioned. You can buy it from Griffin and they have several colors as well: https://griffintechnology.com/products/stands-and-mounts/elevator
The only reason I am using it is because I have had it for years and never really bought a new stand. If I would buy one I would definitely get the mStand on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Rain-Design-mStand-Laptop-Patented/dp/B000OOYECC
It’s all metal and stable. Which is definitely a big plus from the Griffin stand because the plastic can get ugly and it’s wobbly at times if you touch it a lot.
I have read some articles about Amazon blocking top selling products or even coping them in AmazonBasics. For example, This product was copy after a few years of success this AmazinBasics Any problem with them?
Rain Design 10032 mStand Laptop Stand, Silver (Patented) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OOYECC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4SeAFbRYCZF5Y
The one I got was:
https://www.amazon.com/Rain-Design-mStand-Laptop-Patented/dp/B000OOYECC
There are plenty of others. Read the reviews. Some of them have a steeper angle and people complain the laptop falls out. Other are adjustable and you make the laptop fall out by making the angle too steep.
I literally use this very laptop stand for my Cintiq Pro 16.
Thanks! The lights are the Nanoleaf Shapes: Hexagon Smarter Kit. I bought them online from Target, but you can also buy them on Nanoleaf website: https://us-shop.nanoleaf.me/products/nanoleaf-shapes-hexagon-smarter-kit
And the laptop stand is this one right here!: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OOYECC/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_1EP9F8TFZSJRM8Z8Q5BF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It might not be the best stand for this laptop, but I did put some rubber bumpers to raise it a bit to increase airflow.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OOYECC/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_D4GM8N083TNY2ZTRCG5N
Think the one in the pic is a raindrop stand. I have one and love it. Super sturdy, and works great.

I personally use the Rain Design stand. It is a little bit more expensive than other stands, but I think that the build quality alone is worth it. In addition to the strength of the stand itself, you can color match it with MacBooks for the aesthetic part of you. It also has a hold in the back of the stand for super simple cable management, I could go on and on about this stand.
I'll link the amazon page for your reference: https://www.amazon.com/Rain-Design-mStand-Laptop-Patented/dp/B000OOYECC/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=rain+MacBook+stand&qid=1628626551&sr=8-3
At the end of the day, it comes down to what you can afford and what you think looks best. Happy coding!
Depends on the laptop size and weight, for me I got https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OOYECC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_RDGRA9HP2SMM7AKK3KHB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Desktop stand: https://www.amazon.com/Rain-Design-mStand-Laptop-Patented/dp/B000OOYECC
Laptop stand: https://www.raindesigninc.com/ilap.html
It’s a Rain Design laptop stand. Until very recently I was a Mac guy. :) There’s a generic amazon version too that’s the same height and a little cheaper.
I like the angle and height it puts the laptop next to the monitor and like that the space under it is usable as well.
This has been handy through the years.
Thanks!
The stand is a Rain Design mStand that I'm "borrowing" from work.
The keyboard is a Varmilo VA108M which I got with the Mac keyset.

Not a pilot, just a Sim player. Maybe someday I'll get licensed.
The stand is from amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OOYECC/

Two separate stands actually.
Laptop stand is Rain Design mStand: https://www.amazon.ca/Rain-Design-mStand-Laptop-10032/dp/B000OOYECC/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3LBKGVBRS01Y1&keywords=rain+design+mstand&qid=1588962303&sprefix=rain+design+%2Caps%2C225&sr=8-1
Monitor mount is from Anthrodesk (amazon has similar ones, I'm in Canada so Anthrodesk was faster): https://www.anthrodesk.ca/single-monitor-arm.html
Edit: the mStand isn't black on the bottom. I just have my agenda tucked away underneath. Big reason why I went with that style of laptop stand was so that I would still have ample desktop real estate. Some stands don't allow you to tuck things away underneath.
It's the rain m stand https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OOYECC/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_apa_i_NB-4Db9X02FGM
The Rain Design laptop stand is what I went for. No regrets!
So well made. My setup is my MBP 13” on the stand with a 27” 5k monitor and I couldn’t be happier.
How much could I get for the following:
I've used this for 8 years now and it's sturdy as a rock. Pricey but like I said it lasts.
Of course! Like this!
Thanks. I use this stand
I'm in high school as well and I'm planning to do something like this but I don't want to buy stuff I don't necessary need. Basically the idea to have the Mac on a stand while next to the monitor (which is on a stand as well) is connected to it. There are also speakers, and I'll be using an old keyboard that I have (usb) as well as a bluetooth mouse.
So far this is what I'm thinking:
Laptop stand: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OOYECC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Basic speakers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GHY5F3K/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
HDMI Cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014I8SIJY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Thunderbolt to HDMI Adapter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DRK2ZIK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1AMUYYA3CT6HJ
And finally, the monitor: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IA9FXAO/ref=ox_sc_act_title_7?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
I haven't decided nor found a good stand for the monitor so if anyone can help that'd be great. Also, anybody else can comment, I was just seeing if this was buying too much or is there an easier way. I have a nrMBP mid 2012 13'' for reference.
More clarity, It will be built around...
I also have all the peripherals, audio and other misc. items I plug in so the dock/port replicator would make life easier.
There's no problem using a laptop as a desktop, so if you're not considering an upgrade anyway you might as well save the money. It's probably more common than an actual desktop...
Cons first:
Buy this stuff:
mStand I have one and love it
I apologize, should've posted this earlier:
Desk: Ikea Gerton (with no stain, 220 & 320 sanding, and 3 coats of clear satin poly)
Monitor: Dell U2715H
Laptop: MacBook Pro 2014
PC: Custom built with NZXT 220 Case (not really the focus of the battlestation so I wont go into the specs)
Laptop Stand: mStand
Lamp: LE Swing Arm Desk Lamp
Keyboard: The cheap but fully capable Anker Ultra Compact Wireless Keyboard
Mouse: Apple Magic Trackpad 2
Wallpaper: By the talented Justin Maller
Poster: Only one of the greatest number 10s, Mesut Ozil, playing for THE greatest football club, Arsenal (Can't find a link to the poster though)
I've had good luck with one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Design-10032-mStand-Laptop/dp/B000OOYECC ... not particularly cheap, however.
I have this one
it is really nice, a bit more expensive but worth it imo.
M-Stand http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Design-10032-mStand-Laptop/dp/B000OOYECC
Looks and feels just like an Apple product.
It's a Rain design mStand. I highly recommend it.
Looks like this one. mStand Laptop Stand https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000OOYECC/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_lnl2vbC42976T
It's made by a company called Rain Design.
Thank you :) It's made by a company called Rain Design.
Honestly, the things that made the most difference for me were all hardware. This this and this.
Flux was also a HUGE lifesaver for me. I was having very bad eye strain and headaches by the end of one workday, but after installing Flux and darkening my screen about 15% past default for mid-day, these have pretty much all gone away.
It's the Rain mStand.
Sorry not sure what you mean. Might be off the mark, but this is the "docking station" stand I use for my macbook.
I'd highly recommend this aluminum laptop stand, it acts as a secondary heatsink for the entire base of the laptop. http://www.amazon.com/Rain-Design-10032-mStand-Laptop/dp/B000OOYECC
Yes, you can definitely install windows on your machine. Since you're at school, you can probably pick up windows for cheap--I got a copy for $10 at my school.
I doubt you can overheat your machine to the point of damage, but if you want to play it on the safe side, I'd suggest a laptop stand such as this one: http://www.amazon.com/mStand-Laptop-Stand-Rain-Design/dp/B000OOYECC
Instead of the laptop resting on a non-conductive surface, this elevates the machine for better airflow. I primarily bought it for ergonomics, but helping out with heat/airflow is an added bonus. You'll have to get a separate keyboard, but in my mind this is a very useful upgrade. (I use apple's wireless keyboard and it works fine on the windows side as well.)
Apple overcharges on RAM. Always get the min amount of RAM and then replace it with more capacity from someone like Crucial.
I think you'll definitely want the 15"--13" doesn't have the graphics, and 17" is kinda big. I think the big question is whether or not you get the 2.4 or the 2.66. It's a frickin $400 difference, but the graphics card has twice the RAM. If you only casually game, I don't think it's worth the extra money.
An upgrade you might look into is getting an SSD if you don't need a big hard drive, or could live with keeping your photos, music, and videos on a large external drive.
Finally, Instead of paying for a separate external hard drive for Time Machine, just pay $5 a month to wirelessly back up everything over the internet with BackBlaze. It's like having a hard drive that will never fill up and doesn't require plugging in.
mStand - highly recommended. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000OOYECC/
