You know, I thought the same, though I do keep finding little odds and ends that indicate that it may be a standard size.
This hole punch, for example, could match our pattern due to the adjustable spacing (though the default looks pretty darn similar).
The suggested products on that page link to a bunch of Filofax products, so I'm inclined to say that they could fit. I can't be certain, though.
I actually use a single-hole puncher with a punched index card as a template. I add random note pages, index cards, and other junk to the binder with that method.
This looks like it should work for Filofax
I bought this one from kikk-k, it's the large watermellon "live what you love" time planner. This was USD$79.99 when I ordered it a couple of months ago, but right now it's 20% off for USD$63.96 - nice! I also bought the Rapesco 6-hole punch off of Amazon & I just marked with tape the place to punch specifically for the Kikki-K & my own custom inserts I wanted to start/have started making for myself (slightly different dimensions than the Kikki-K). There's a tutorial on google/youtube if you look for it! :) also I have just a regular hole punch and just use a Kikki-k page as a template of where to punch the holes. I really love the quality of this planner & the ability to literally put WHATEVER I want in it and can change it all the time. I would say just the beginning investment of the leather organizer can be an investment, but right now with the sale, these last for a long time I've heard if you take good care of them! Also you can always just buy more inserts from Kikki-K or other places that sell A5 6-hole punched inserts like on Etsy. Maybe try the personal size if the large is too big? Slightly less expensive too I would expect. Hope this helps! -K [EDIT: phrasing]
Item-by-item:
Scissors - Maybe these compact things?
Glue/Tape - Tons of stuff out there, maybe some pre-cut strips that come in a flat packet?
Pencil - Pentel Graph Gear, Rotring 600, Uni Kuru Toga, RITR, tons of great pencils out there.
Eraser - Uni Block, Pentel Hi-Polymer, Tombow Zoro stick, and the eraser on our pencil are the best erasers I've used.
Envelopes - Maybe just 3x5 envelopes?
Cover/Pouch/Kit - Our compact planners have a bunch of pockets and sleeves for stuff. Same with the covers for our 1/2" compact binders.
Paper - Our compact loose leaf fits both the planners and binders shown above.
Pen - If you go with our paper, it is water-resistant, so water-soluble inks are a no-go. Pencil and ballpoint work best. My favorite ballpoints include RITR pens (obv), Fisher Space Pens, Uni Jetstreams, Zebra pens (F-701 or F-301) and a few others.

I used a single-hole punch to add index cards and other stuff. Our punch is also compatible with this thing.
Folded 8.5 x 11 sheets don't work particularly well here. You could fold a sheet into quarters (hot dog, then hamburger) and slide it into the internal binder pocket in case you need a reference document.
We also have loose leaf copier paper that you can print out on 8.5 x 11 and remove. Make a print design template for it and you can easily use these our loose leaf for for forms, maps, etc.
Here's a hole punch that lines up with our loose leaf.
