I use the Razer Naga. I played wow for years and back when I needed tons of keybinds this was the mouse I used. Works GREAT for smite.
You can use a controller, but people will be able to tell.
I have never played on Xbox, but what I have seen from like frost's videos, people on pc are generally much better. But not while leveling up 1 -29 is an absolute shitfest. Even with a low Casual elo the game can get frustrating some times.
Also I don't really know much about Xbox servers, but Smite pc server can be.... frustrating sometimes.
The side buttons should work via key rebinding or macro setup (you'll likely have to install their software, similar to Razer products using Synapse).
If you're going to shell out some money for a gaming keyboard, I'd recommend going for a mechanical one instead of regular. I think it's a better investment for a product you'll be happy with for a longer period of time.
If you are interested in mechanical keyboards, I could give some brand recommendations or /r/MechanicalKeyboards also has good information.
I've been very pleased with my Razer Blackwidow Ultimate over the past few years, but I particularly enjoy having clicky keys (Cherry MX Blue).
Which multi-button mouse did you try? I have the Razer Naga 2014 edition and it totally revolutionized how I play MMOs, especially Tera. Took some time to get used to, but now it feels perfect, and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in a true multi-button mouse.
Depends on you and your hardware.
You might wish to change movement from WASD to ESDF. The reason being you'll have more room to the right and left of your movement keys to bind abilities. QW and RT for abilities is much nicer then just Q and E... assuming of course you got rid of keyboard turning for your camera, which I hope you did. Moving to ESDF also makes more numbers reachable, 123456 are all within a reasonable reach.
If you have mouse software, you could for SWTOR rebind any of the mouse buttons 3-5 to shift, alt, or crtl. This would allow you to SHIFT-Q for example without contorting your hand or taking your hand off movement keys. It would also very easily allow you to use your movement keys whether they WASD or ESDF as shift, alt, or ctrl keys. Shift-W is a whole lot easier to hit when the thumb on your mouse can be shift. :)
Of course if you have a mouse with a ton of buttons like the Razer Naga you'll want to bind those as numpad buttons so that you have 1-6 on your keyboard as different keys then 1-6 on your mouse.
As for what to assign what abilities and layout of the ui, there isn't any right way to do it. You want to see target of target, you want to see focus target. You want debuffs to be larger then buffs, especially large on the raid frame so you can cleanse them. Highlighting your own effects as well as cleansable debuffs will help you know what's what as well.
Sorry for the non answer. I do have a friend that has been using the Razor Naga for a number of years with success. I know the original Naga is a few years old, but the successors are probably just as good.
Razer Naga Ergonomic MMO Gaming Mouse https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E8CF268/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_E8Iexb1DQKB66 I love this thing, not crazy money, tons of adjustability. I've had mine for 2 years now with zero problems other than resetting it a couple times.
i use this mouse from my WoW days. before it became not fun anymore. using numbers in a game has never been easier
Best thing I can say is a good mouse. Hopefully its your off arm (non-dominant) and something like the Razer Naga (the mouse I use) can be programmed to use the number keys as qwer moves and have a lot more variety of inputs from just one hand.
Hopefully it's not broken and it's a quick recovery!

I swear by my Razer Naga and I have even bigger hands than you (10 inches thumb to pinky). The ergonomics are amazing for me and I don't think I can ever go back to a mouse without a grid of thumb buttons after using one for about nine months.
I recommend one of these...

You can either make the numbers on the side correspond to the numbers at the top of your keyboard or to the number pad on the right of the keyboard.
Having the entirety of your rotation tied to your mouse is incredible. I really only use my keyboard for movement at this point and have my "oh shit" buttons tied to the number keys at the top of my keyboard. Things like pots, barkskin, etc.
If you're on PS3/4, it's somewhat difficult to heal with a controller, as the more you level up, the more skills you acquire. However, this isn't saying that you'll be a bad healer, just that it's not as easy as being on PC. If you're on PC, and you have some extra cash, a Razer Naga mouse is amazing. Currently, it's on sale. I use this for ALL of my skills now. It's changed my MMO game. Intead of Hotbar "1" through "=" on your keyboard as skills, they're all on your mouse, available to press without reaching too far, giving you more control to move and whatnot.
2 words: Razer Naga. After I got mine I can't imagine how I played for so long without one, they are amazing!!! I def recommend them!!! http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Naga-2014-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00E8CF268/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1413919168&sr=8-1&keywords=razer+naga
There is. I could never understand how people could use their mouse in their left hand, even though I myself am left handed.
I enjoy both the razor naga epic AND the logitech thingy
I use a Razer Naga. Runs about $70 and makes gaming ridiculously easier.
There's no "correct" keybinds. Using WASD for movement is as valid as using ESDF or RDFG, it's whatever you're comfortable with and whatever your hardware can support.
First questions, do you have a Razer naga mouse? If you don't, 90% of the keybinds people can recommend to your are useless. Why? Because people will use those 12 thumb buttons as abilities buttons.
Let's talk basics. Stop Being a keyboard turner and clicker. You should be moving your character with movement keys (WASD, ESDF, or RDFG.) You can use any of those groupings. Forward W, strafe left A, back S, strafe right D. You use strafe left/right so your character can take a step to the left or right. Now you steer with your mouse. Holding right click while moving your mouse will turn your character. Holding W while moving your cheer will let you steer your character around. You can also hold left and right mouse click to move and steer. I suggest moving like this when you have to move AND use abilities at the same time. Leaning to strafe left and right while steering is handy too for keeping your target infront of you but not back pedaling, which is slower moving them forward or strafing.
I personally suggest ESDF instead of WASD because it gives you access to more buttons. Look at your keyboard, by using ESDF for movement, you now have QW and RT for as buttons you can easily reach for abilities. You can still reach 12345 above E very easily. Shift might be more comfortable to reach too. Shift is important so you can make a Shift Q ability. Below that is Ctrl, which means you can make a Ctrl Q ability. Same with the numbers, so use QWRTAGZXCV12345 with Shift and Ctrl abilities.
Now if you have a Razer naga mouse? If you do, go into the naga software and make the numbers on the mouse numpad. Why? So 12345 on your keyboard are different then the 12345 on your mouse.
If you don't have a naga mouse, no big deal. Does you mouse have any software? Does it let you rebind your 2 thumb buttons. Typically they're forward and back when you're browsing the internet. But what I suggest is rebind them to ctrl and alt. Why? If you're uncomfortable with reach for Ctrl T, wouldn't it be nice if the hand holding your mouse could hit CTRL for you. If you don't have mouse software, check out X-Mouse-Control. It's free and will let you change what your buttons do when you're playing swtor.
if you're interested in trades i've got:
Naga MMO - https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Ergonomic-Gaming-Mouse-RZ01-01040100-R3U1/dp/B00E8CF268
and a R.A.T 9 MMO https://www.amazon.com/Mad-Catz-T-9-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B009PHSDBM
would consider either as trade straight up for the New in Box one. both retail for more than what you're asking, they are used but working like new.- just went back to my Sidewinder mouse.
send a PM if interested.
Personally i dont like reds because the activation force is too low and you double click the keys a lot, and for blues i like everything about them (even the noise) but noise isnt for everyone so when it comes to that i feel that you would be good with a corsair k70 mx brown and as for your mouse. since you go from everything from FPS to MMO to RPG i feel that a razer naga would be perfect. but make sure to get the 2013 version. I have promised myself never to get another 2014 model from razer ever again due to the fact that i had 1 naga and it broke within like a year , 2 deathadders and they both broke within like 5 or 6 months. but i do adore the quality and looks of razer from 2013 down. the naga i person had and it was actually really nice when i had it. i didnt use the buttons because i never really playeld mmo, rpg, moba, etc. but the mouse was fine. just depends on your grip if you would want it. its also larger than most mice. if not happy with that you can also pick up a g600 i think i is called. it will do you good as i have read really good reviews on it. but do your own research on both mice to make sure its you that is happy with the mouse not other people. i will do another reply to get links after this one.
edit: naga 2013: http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Naga-Ergonomic-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00E8CF268
g600 i dont think the quality is good enough and it could be a bit bigger for your hands. also i really feel inlove with my deathadder when i had it so if it interest you and you dont need the programable buttons then i wonuld say get the deathadder 2013.
keyboard (k70): http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00IYJD5CY/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8
i got the mx browns because its a tactille feel meaning that you can feel when the switch clicks and you dont have to bottom it out to activate it, and its alsl silent. how ever it doesnt have macros, but still you have a lot on your mouse so i wouldnt be worried about that ;)
and here is a nice mousepad
i have one myself and i love it
GL MAN
I too have been searching for gaming mice, here's the list a few that I'm deciding between.
Another honorable mention is Roccat's Nyth
For funsies my favorite keyboard
edit: Hope you enjoy my obviously biased taste. :P
There are a lot of choices as far as mmo gaming mice go, but generally most people I've ever spoke to fall into one of two camps...
Razer Naga http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Naga-MMO-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00E8CF268
Logitech G600 http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G600-Gaming-Mouse-Black/dp/B0086UK7IQ
Mostly comes down to personal preference, I own both, slightly prefer the Logitech, but YMMV
I use one of these and it helps offload any functions I want off my left hand and onto my right hand thumb: http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Naga-MMO-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00E8CF268/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1430845983&sr=8-1&keywords=naga
Have you considered a Razer Naga
Strictly for the utility at your thumb and ability to keybind, as well as the additional 8600DPI that is also adjustable via the switches behind the scroll wheel.
I use the Razer Naga 2014. The mechanical side buttons feel really nice to use. Razer's "Synapse" software works decently well with Mac, as you can bind any button to a multitude of functions. The only issue I've run into is that the OS-level mouse tracking seems to reset to 0 on reboot. Not a huge issue. I would definitely purchase this mouse again if mine were to ever go up (had it for about 11 months now with no issues.)
The Logitech G600 has decent reviews, although I didn't go with it because a) the side buttons are squishy, and b) the software only works in Windows, so if you want to rebind keys to something else, you're out of luck.
A cheaper option is the Redragon Perdition, which is a newer "MMO mouse." I couldn't verify, but I don't believe this one has any Mac software either. However, the buttons are still just numeric keys, so if you don't need anything crazy, it should be fine. You can also store the button profiles on the device, so if you have a Windows install, you can apply it there then use it in OS X.
There's also the UtechSmart Venus. Not bad reviews; fairly new; cheap. Like the two previous mice, I don't believe it has any Mac software, but the extra buttons will still function.
I did a big guide to gaming mice on the site recently, months of testing, and I think the Razer Deathadder 2013 is the best mouse to get. It sounds like you're looking exclusively at MMO-oriented mice, which I decided not to test; after talking to a few pro gamers, the advice I got was that ergonomics and weight are more important than a bunch of buttons, which can negatively impact your grip, comfort, control, etc.
So I can't recommend the best MMO gaming mouse based on my own testing. But from what I've read, the redesigned 2014 Razer Naga is really good.
Hi, I use a razer naga which has 12 buttons on the side for your thumb, I'm not running my hand across my whole keyboard :p http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Naga-Ergonomic-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00E8CF268
http://i.imgur.com/Xt3zila.png - This is kind of what my current setup looks like (older screenshot but pretty much exactly how it is now minus physick being on bar). I use a Razer Naga, which most if not all my heals are bound to the mouse with the exception of Medica & Medica II. Alt + 2 is my Benediction / Alt + 3 is my Tetragrammaton. I have these require 2 inputs because I don't want to accidentally set those off, think of it as my 'fail-safe'.
I like to keep my buffs separate from my skills for visibility mostly. Everything else is easily accessible since I try to bind everything close to where WASD is located. Its easy to run out of space this way, so assigning things Ctrl + key / Shift + key / Alt + Key helps a bit. Clicking for me is no bueno as I think clicking is way too slow.
My biggest advice is to just make sure you can reach everything easily and accurately. An MMO mouse like a Razer Naga or Logitech G600 may help. Corsair also has a really nice new one they are launching.
razor naga http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Naga-2014-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00E8CF268/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1413599326&sr=1-1&keywords=razor+naga its around $60 and its pretty comfy with lots of programmable buttons.
Get one of those thumb grid mice, like the Razer Naga (which i use) or the Logitech G600. Ignore the anti-Razer hate train, most of their products aren't that great, but their mice are always top-notch.
Got one? Good, it is so much easier using those than binding your whole keyboard. If you haven't already, use Dominos or Bartender. Where and how you place the bars is entirely up to you, and what you feel comfortable with.
For reference, this is how my keybindings look.
Now, the keybind fun starts. Put your main spells, preferably damage ones if you're dps or heal ones if you're a healer, from 1 to =, but you don't have to go that far (i go from 1-0). Bind everything else 1-= using Shift, Alt, and Ctrl modifiers, the way you do it is up to you. I personally use 1-0 for damage and mobility, shift modifier for utility, and alt modifier for self-defense or situational spells. The closer to 1 you put your ability, the more you remember it. You can also use extra non-number keybindings if you like, including Q, E, F, G, whatever floats your boat.
Oh, and remember that not everything needs to have a keybind.
Good luck!
