if you do upgrade to a mechanical, you can get another device like the Razer Orbweaver, or any other variant (razer and hori are the only 2 brands i know that make these), so you can still have that 'left hand' set up.
more expensive overall, sure, but the customization is off the charts with these.
Heh, yeah. I was a long time Xbox player that switched to a really high end PC when cross save came out. I couldn't be happier. Also, this keyboard changed my life:
https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Orbweaver-Chroma-Progammable-Adjustable/dp/B013P0HW7K
Though it's now an old model but still my favorite.
np
sorry for coming on so strong about it, but it is sincerely my most regretted peripheral purchase for my PC, and I even bought the Razer Orbweaver so I definitely have some regrets lol
I actually use a gaming pad (Razer Orbweaver) in a very similar manner.
My main mapped keys include - J, K, L, Undo, Split, Cut, Paste, Decrease Size, Increase Size, Mute, Solo, and Esc. I also keep the in and out marker, up, down, and delete mapped on my mouse.
Why use 3-4 fingers when you can use a razer orbweaver instead? I’m a somewhat recent console to pc player and I’m surprised how few people I see using a product like this when it frees up 4 other fingers for other functions
Low stability weapons are really usable. I have a great cold front and death adder that are boarderline awful on controller that I love on mouse. Also, I use this instead of a controller or keyboard: https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Orbweaver-Chroma-Progammable-Adjustable/dp/B013P0HW7K
Thats changed the game for me.
r/CruciblePlaybook will probably be better for you. As someone who played with controller my whole life until I migrated to pc last year, I had a lot of trouble with the keyboard. I ended up buying this and it changed my life: https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Orbweaver-Chroma-Progammable-Adjustable/dp/B013P0HW7K
There are controllers for gamers that let you map buttons to key presses. So you could map them to any keyboard shortcut you want. And the Adobe apps let you remap shortcuts, so you could make the device useful in all your software. The Logitech G13 is good but they don’t make them anymore so you’ll have to buy a used one on eBay. Razer also makes one. r/gaming can probably help you find more options.
There are also a lot of crazy input devices for video editing you could use. They get pretty spendy, tho.
Maybe you could use some kind of mixed input like: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B013P0HW7K?linkCode=gs2&tag=gt5na01-20
That way you could have 8 directional movement and still use the mouse for camera control? Sheesh it would be an investment if you have played those games for 600 hours, that's like 26 cents CAD per hour of usage so far.
Break free from the oppressive WASD configuration. Help your hands in the fight against Carpal Tunnel Syndrome with this innovative new technology!!!
Thumb on stick which has 8 way direction (UDLR + diagonals) >>>>>>>>>> keyboard. Faster, more fluid movement, and you now have 4 fingers free to press other buttons.
Yeah, I am thinking that way as well. Gonna go for dual sticks, however. The way I figure - throttle is the same as an additional stick, just gives you one less axis. I figure I can use the left stick as a throttle in a pinch.
Besides, dual stick setup should work amazingly well for flying helicopters, which I adore. I've spent a thousand hours in GTA5 flying those things, just because of how awesomely it is implemented there. I expect to stick with helicopters in the future and that setup should work nicely.
I have also already ordered an Orbweaver, – I am planning on mounting that instead of the left joystick when not using it (gonna attach everything with VELCRO strips, so I don't have to mess around with bolts). It should work for everything not needing a second stick.
Potentially the biggest problem would be the camera controls/movement with only one hand. I am constantly using the WASD keys and mouse simultaneously as well as the T key for the more advanced camera controls. The other shortcuts could be mapped relatively easily to a gaming mouse. Perhaps even something like this could work well... Granted, it's an investment but I am fairly sure this could be a 1 handed solution.
Razer makes something like that that has keys for switching weapons as well. Here its kinda expensive but if the stick position is comfortable enough it could be good
I like it. it requires a lot of tampering to get it optimized and sometimes I cringe at the thought and thus dont use it.
But once configured it can be real nice. I do wish it had an additional row on the top. The stick sucks as a mouse, so best to assign it other uses that don't require clutch use. the keys lined up like that is a definite plus. Straight rows makes for less mistakes in the thick of things.
Razer Orbweaver Chroma is a version that uses mechanical keys. If I had to do over again, I think I might dish out the extra money for that one.
Basically the same, but with the extra row above and what I think looks like a more natural placement for the thumb and access to those buttons. The G13 forces you to choose the bottom row or the thumb area to be effective, making some keys far harder to use in a clutch.
A gaming keypad? If you mean a keyboard, /r/MechanicalKeyboards has a ton of reccomendations depending on preferences. If you're looking for a straight keypad, the closest thing with mech switches I found was the Razer Orbweaver Chroma at $130.
I plugged this in another thread, but a gaming keypad of some form may increase his options, as it has a hat switch that works like a modifoer key that gives you many key options all on the left hand.
I think with a little practice and a good setup he should be able to perform well enough for most things in the game that aren't heavy raiding or PvP. You may want to especially pay attention to settings like character turn speed (EDIT: actually just use legacy controls for sure) since the biggest handicap would be not being able to move your character in the way a mouse allows, though again, I don't feel like a majority of content requires a lot of delicate movement, especially on a healer.
Civ and most strategy games are great and really only require mouse. Management/simulation games like prison architect would also work great. You could also get him one of these.
You link and old version sold by a 3rd party as am example for price? Give me a freaking break.
The g13 isn't nearly as comfortable and has very mushy buttons when compared to an Orbweaver. Not to me to mention the Orbweaver is full RGB back lit.
These pads are awesome and well worth the 60$ higher sell price over a g13. So freaking comfortable and more buttons that are easily accessible around your left hand. I'll take (8+5)more buttons over an analog stick any day.
As far as the LCD screen. Are you seriously going to take your eyes off the screen to glance down at some stats. All useful information will be shown ON your HUD.
That being said, if you REALLY wants this feature, there are apps for your phone which loom 100x better.
You need to chill out, you are acting like these pads murdered someone you cared about.
Direct from Razer, sure. On Amazon it's $80 for the version with membrane switches and $100 for mechanical.

I use an orb weaver for hotkeys in TOS. Programming both the CTRL key and the specified key, at the same time. I program them with unused keys, spaced between them, to help prevent accidental presses. I do wish TOS would let you program the orders based on hotkeys, or percentages of the account, for scalping. In Webull, I can, but Webull banking sucks ass.
This link is to the keypad:

I'd but through amazon.. if it fails they have better customer service than razer.

A bit late to the party for this post but around the time I turned 30 (currently 38 years old now) I had to buy a "gaming keypad" type device and map a mouse left click to one of the buttons. Any type of click heavy games I have to use it or my wrist will burn out right away. This means that as a right handed person I am left clicking with the pointer finger on my left hand. I also map the right click to the keypad as well so in some cases I'm almost never clicking with my dominant hand (I "right click" with my pinky). It may sound strange but it becomes second nature very quickly.
By a "gaming keypad" I mean something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Orbweaver-Chroma-Progammable-Adjustable/dp/B013P0HW7K
I currently use a Tartarus v1 but it is getting long in the tooth and will probably replace it with that Orbweaver soon. I bought a Tartarus Pro but the mouse wheel sits where I like to map the click button too and doesn't feel good.
I also use a compression wrist wrap and it helps a lot (yeah I'm getting worn out). The wrist wrap helps out a lot with console controllers as well. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Comfortable-Adjustable-Arthritis-Tendinitis-Compression/dp/B07PKBCD72
I've been playing games since the NES days and work in IT so I'm using a mouse or controller the majority of my day. At this point I have to manage myself like this or I wouldn't be able to game anymore. It is what it is.
Hope this helps out.
because i cant buy one because amazon.ae doesnt have it (its the amazon in the UAE) i am actually planning on buying this https://www.amazon.ae/Razer-Orbweaver-Chroma-Mechanical-Switches/dp/B013P0HW7K/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=keypad&qid=1589346849&refinements=p_85%3A15602504031&rnid=15602503031&rps=1&sr=8-1&th=1

One of the best things I ever bought myself for even the extremely limited office style work I do
How would Razer Orbweaver Chroma work? also thanks for the advice
Orbweaver/G602 One-Handed Typing Layout:
Using the buttons on the G602 (or any mouse with additional buttons) as modifier keys, and the Orbweaver thumb-pad to switch keymaps while tilted in one of the 4 cardinal directions.
NONE of the 30 most common bigrams (two letter combinations) in the english language require two movements of the same finger as:
EX. The bigram “TH”
EX. The bigram “HE”
http://norvig.com/mayzner.html
The most commonly typed word in english; “THE”, can be typed in an instant by overlapping the “H” and “E” keys with the index finger and simultaneously pressing the right and index fingers in one motion.
(I find I get near 100% accuracy when overlapping the “T” and “H” keys with the ring finger as well)
Thethethethethethethethethehetthethethethethethethethethehtethethethethethethethethethethe
See!
The most common letters E, T, A and O are laid out under the fingers assuming the user is placing them in the classic SHIFT-WASD position. An the less used letters are under the second (Blue) keymap.
Different finger zones are shown by the different colors.
Every key on a regular keyboard is laid out here with the exception of the arguably useless PRTSCN, SCRLK and PAUSE keys.

That may be my new go to as a low sensitivity gamer with a small desk. I originally was planning on getting something like the Razer Orbweaver (https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Orbweaver-Chroma-Mechanical-Adjustable/dp/B013P0HW7K/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1525046627&sr=1-1&keywords=razer+gamepad). Thanks I guess.
> I have found this keyboard: https://www.newegg.com/global/uk/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823851007&cm_re=genovation_cp48-_-23-851-007-_-Product
Delete it from your web history. What makes you think that plate full of keys is going to be comfortable in any capacity whatsoever? For that price you can already afford a proper throttle.
If you hate the very idea of a throttle, then you could go with a second stick (like I do) or at least a keypad specifically designed for gaming.
To add to what others have remarked already - if you don't feel like buying HOTAS, you may want to consider a gaming keypad. This thing would be useful for any game out there, whereas HOTAS only works with select few flight sims.
I have the Orbweaver I linked - it is very comfortable, even if some keys are a bit awkward to reach / takes getting used to. I am using a dualstick setup to fly in Elite, but my right hand is more often on the Orbweaver than the right stick.
That is only a compromise, though. If you have some money, absolutely go for HOTAS. It is super immersive in Elite, even without VR.
What about one of those gaming pad things?
This is the mechanical version. There's a previous gen (still mech switches) that wasn't RGB. You may have luck finding it on eBay.
Thanks! Looking at your pics, looks like you've definitely spent the time refining your workspace.
A couple quick questions:
1) How essential would you say a transport control is? On my controller I bound the triggers to J/L, the start button to Space, and the D-Pad to Arrow Keys. Felt just a little clunky, but not sure how much smoother it could be?
2) Obviously you enjoy your wacom, and owning one myself....any recommendations for integrating it into a setup? (PEBKAC or otherwise)
3) When you're saying "powered sliders", do you mean they physically move when they change in the software?
The AAC is quite out of my current budget, but I'd like to strap together some cheaper gear to emulate what it does. I've seen some industry editors using stuff like the G13 or the Orbweaver as a sort of "power keyboard" for their most used shortcuts, with a wacom or mouse in the other hand.
[edit: extra question]
Not true.
That's a keypad not a keyboard, and the closest equivalent I can find to the Tac Pro is the Razer Orbweaver Chroma, which is already $120 by itself.
For comparison here's the link to the Tac Pro.
The chroma is the one I was referencing. I didn't bother specifying chroma vs non-chroma since the chroma is the only current model.
For the record:
Would an orbweavery be a viable alternative? Or are those not enough keys?
I just got one of these http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Orbweaver-Chroma-Mechanical-Gaming/dp/B013P0HW7K
Im looking for a mechanical keyboard for work, i think thats overkill for work
Close type of product that you can program similarly to that. Razer Orbweaver.
