You gotta be careful with the jigs and really analyze the reviews, those 3D printed ones with just paper clips I never had much success with even after buying multiple and adjusting the hell out of it, maybe it works once or twice but eventually the paper clip just doesn't last.
This is the one I have I first hacked my switch in August of 2019 and have not had any issues with it. Worked the first time.
The issue is probably the jig itself if you've bought 3 and none worked. Some manufacturers are not very reputable.
This is the one I own, and the ones I recommend to friends who are homebrewing their switch I've never had anyone tell me they've had issues getting into RCM, assuming they're doing it properly, with this jig.
Hey all. I wanted to get into switch hacking but am not confident enough to ground the pins myself and wanted to get a jig. Would something like this work or is it just garbage?
I don't think you need a first gen one to hack it, I'd been updating my switch before I tried my hand at homebrewing it.
The biggest problem is that it's a hassle because you have to go through the process of putting it into recovery mode every time you want to do something, and that generally requires creating a physical short between joycon connecter pins.
I had to buy this dongle to reliably do it.
First look up your switch serial number online and make sure it is old enough to have the hardware vulnerability then get yourself one of these and a micro sd card and card reader. Plenty of subs dedicated to switch hacking and home brew mine is currently running retroarch but I can boot it into android pretty easily haven’t tried anything gamepass related though
I kind of had the same thing when I tried 3D printing my own, its best if you buy one of these. After I got one of those, I had no problem whatsoever. Plus, with the kind of Jig you're using, its probable that you will be wearing out the pins on your switch and you might cause damage in the long run. Better safe than sorry!
RCM Jig for Nintendo Switch Joy-Con RCM Clip Short Connector for NS Recovery Mode (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07J9JJRRG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_PKH3Cb5W386G9
The box it game in had the branding for 3dsflashcard kinda website so I imagine it's very similar (or identical) to the good jigs that come with things like sx pro and other rcm loaders. Never had an issue getting in rcm yet and slides in very flush on my rail
No problem at all, I would recommend working on getting an rcm jig to start, if you have an iPhone an Rcm Jig plus a loader.

Rcm loader + jig: https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Payloads-Injector-Wireless-Transmitter/dp/B07YWCZBQR/
If you have an android phone we can use it to boot the CFW, but if not you'll need the loader or a PC to boot.
The older version of the switch has a hardware exploit that forces the switch into recovery mode, which in turn allows you to install any payload. Nintendo caught wind of this exploit and patched it. If you want to check if your switch is hackable put in your switch model id in this site
If your switch is hackable use this tool (if you feel cheap use paper clips), and then it'll force it into recovery mode. Then use a micro sd to install the proper firmware. Here a video explaining in more detail
The little plastic jig that goes into the rail to short the switch! Some people use tinfoil and stuff. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-Switch-Short-Connector-Recovery-Black/dp/B07J9JJRRG
It might be different for you if you are using a newer switch, but I'm using the first gen, unpatched one.
Also, I found this guide, I've been reading over it before I do anything, seems to be the most indepth one around. (Especially since there is no good Video guides).

It's connecting some form of wire from the 10th pin on the right of the joycon rail, to a piece of metal that it can discharge safely (typically the 1st pin, or the metal bar over the fan)
There's a variety of different methods listed here I tried the paper clip method in vain for while, but I honestly recommend just buying a 3D printed jig from Amazon.
Apparently there’s something going on with that site right now, sorry for the trouble.
Thank you for that app name, Checkpoint. I did eventually get it sorted. Basically, after extracting and converting (per the guides I linked above), I was able to get the save file "restored" on my Switch via:

This is the one I got for $7.99
Have you looked into what generation of switch you're using? I know the newer ones have heightened security, but if you are using an older one, a jigger should work just fine, no need to buy and install a mod chip.
