There is an amazing little book by Len Walsh called "Read Japanese Today" where every character is taught like this, by explaining the origin and showing how it evolved into today's modern Kanji. I know it's not chinese but it's an incredibly interesting book that changed how I see kanji.
EDIT: Book on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Read-Japanese-Today-Practical-Language/dp/4805309814/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472496139&sr=8-1&keywords=read+japanese+today
Not a website, but this book explains the origin of around 400 kanji: https://www.amazon.com.au/Read-Japanese-Today-Learn-Practical/dp/4805309814/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=338SD5NZ2N0WS&keywords=learn+Japanese+today&qid=1644011281&sprefix=learn+japanese+today%2Caps%2C441&sr=8-4
There's a good book that explains the derivation of a lot of the characters (well, 400, anyway).
