Reading is 100% neccessary, but learning how to read is definitely a large part too. Try to play with the poems; see how they sound out loud, how people use line breaks, or commas, or semicolons differently to influence sound, see what happens if you change it. Seriously, finding a poem you love and going through it line by line breaking it down and building it back up will do more than any textbook. That being said, for my money the best book on poetry that I've found is Real Sofististikation by Tony Hoagland. Highest quality info, most digestible book.
