One or two of these:
Some sheet metal to glue/rivet to it, and some neodymium magnets to glue to the bottom of your models.
I have a few Really Useful Boxes
For the Vallejo/Reaper size paints, the A4 (linked above) size fits perfect. They also have smaller and larger sizes which can accommodate different needs.
Add in some pluck foam if you need more stability. With this setup you should be able to carry everything you need in one small-ish box. They also stack very well, so if you need more storage, buy more boxes!
Old cars waiting for something get tossed in a shoebox. Once completed they live on a shelf.
I have a Really Useful Box that keeps my dice, book and templates handy, with a tray insert. When transporting the cars they fit in the tray and get cushioned with a bit of paper towel.

Tray insert - Amazon link, again they can be found cheaper elsewhere.
Just to put this to the top because this is what I do too.

These A4 paper boxes are great for troops, for large creatures ir tanks you'll need something bigger.
I’ve tried a bunch of ways, and this way has worked the best for me.
Get a couple 4 liter and 9 liter Very Useful Boxes, and then glue some steel rubber sheets to the bottom. Hot glue some neodymium magnets to under side of the bases for your minis, and profit.
Example of 4L really useful box on Amazon (I got mine at Office Depot for a bit cheaper):
And I used these A4 sized steel rubber sheets from Green Stuff World (located in Spain, shipping may take a while), it’s a perfect fit for the 4L and 9L boxes: https://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/magnetic-sheets/75-steel-rubber-sheet-for-magnetic-trays-and-crafts.html
And then the magnets. 5x2 N52 work well for most of the mid sized models like Rubrics and Terminators. 3x2 work fine for cultists and lighter weight models like Necron warriors.
And finally, if you put a piece of parchment paper (like baking paper) on your desk, put some magnets flat, then squeeze out some hot glue to cover the magnet, and sit the base on it, the hot glue slightly melts the bottom the base a little and gives a really strong bond. And then it peels right off the parchment paper when it’s cool.
I’ve done about 100 models like this, and it works very well. For special models I spent some time painting nicely, like Ahriman, I’ll still put a little piece of foam around the mini just in case it gets jarred hard enough to pop off the steel sheet.

I just stuck the sheet magnets in and slapped a piece of steel on it. It holds that pretty well, but doesn't work with the magnets the greatest. In the future I believe I'll leave the sheet magnets off and just glue the plate into the box.
No need for one with dividers with the metal sheet at the bottom. I do something similar to the above poster and I like using this style of box as they stack really nicely.
I got a 'really useful box' they make them in different sizes but that one fit in my drawer
then I got one of these trays to go inside of it, they also come in different sizes so just pick one that fits inside the useful box, I got a 8 inch one I think and theres room on the side of the box to fit cables and other random stuff
