The fact that I am likely to ALWAYS want to eat more than is appropriate is like the wind. I can't control the desires or stop the stress that often triggers it. But, while I can't control the wind, I can adjust my sails.
The 12 step thing doesn't work for everyone, but binge eating is an addictive behavior (says me, a food addict). I don't think applying the 12 steps directly to food isn't as good a fit as it is for alcohol or narcotics or gambling because completely quitting eating isn't an option. But, that doesn't change the fact that there's a lot of wisdom in those communities and in the books they've written that addresses the underlying addictive behavior that food addiction DOES line up with.
