The math behind general relativity can be pretty daunting, but to understand the math behind most special relativity problems usually only requires some algebra and a little geometry (and because its very geometric, it lends itself well to visual depictions of the problems). If you're okay with those two things, you should be able to understand a lot of the math of SR already!
There are a lot of good books that cover the math in a way that a non-specialist can understand. Here's one that illustrates everything out that I like.
It's also not very mathematical, but Einstein's own book for the general public on Relativity remains one of the clearest descriptions of the underlying logic I've ever read.
