Grab one of these, and a roll of parchment paper from the grocery store. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FJSQD2Q?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Grab a decent sized nug, tear off a ~5" strip of the paper and fold in half. Place the nug between the sheets, near the folks point (but not right against.)
I use a little clamp (pistol grip style) to now pre-crush the nug so my paper and nug are already flat and easy to handle.
Pre-warm the iron on it's lowest setting, place the stack in, and crush it for ~5 seconds and remove. When I say "crush", I mean strong hands, a clamp, or (as the person who taught me does) stand in a doorway, stand on the iron, and press down (though she was not a large person.)
Now, take the crushed nug out (I keep for vaping) and put the paper in the fridge for a few to make your rosin more firm. Cool your dab tool also, and you should be able to roll the results up on your tool.
Not sexy, but gets you going.

For small amounts of flower/kief; obviously NOT on par with real squishing tech, but years ago, there weren't any pre-made presses, and we used what we could lol. Some parchment paper and you'll be set to see if DIY rosin is for you , and want to expand into some better tech. If not, you're out $50. Tons of vids/info out there to get you started.
