As a claims adjuster for a major insurance company, this is easily the best advice you can get. So many claims come down to both drivers telling the truth. If the other driver decides not to, it's on you to prove them wrong if you expect their insurance to pay for your damages. Remember that.
I have one. You can get a great one for around $100 plus the cost of a decent SD card.
Have this. Works great, quality is good too. Haven’t had to use it for an actual accident so I can’t speak as to how the sensors pick up a crash, but I’ve pulled some footage from it and it looks good.

Any recommendations for helmet/motorcycle "dash" cams? Should I just bite the bullet and buy another GoPro? (used to have one years back, so I bet I can reuse plenty of the mounts/accessories)
I've loved my Rexing V1 in my Jeep (mobile app is poor... it works, but you're better off using an sd card reader and a computer whenever you need to transfer footage), been hardwired for over two years now, but I don't think it'll double as a sturdy helmet cam.
Thanks, hopefully it is the same in the 2018. I was hoping I could use my current Rexing V1 3rd Gen which paid for itself a million times over when a city truck hit me last year and then Christmas eve this year when my 08 mustang was totaled by a driver blowing through a red..
I have a Rexing V1 I got off Amazon with a hardwire kit. 4k video, its pretty nice and affordable. Been using for two years no problems.

I believe its this one - https://www.amazon.com/Generation-Dashboard-Recorder-G-Sensor-Recording/dp/B077B25H9K
I have had Rexing V1 for over a year, it works perfectly fine + the recording is super clear.
Rexing V1 3rd Gen 4K. Got it back in April 2018 and it hasn't skipped a beat. Of course it's reliability is at least in part thanks to a "high endurance video monitoring" Sandisk mSD card I bought at the same time. Here's the dash cam on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077B25H9K
Mine can have an optional GPS added to it but there is now a newer version called the V1GW which has GPS built in for about the same price.
Hi, I am not entirely sure why it's the favorite but it's the most recommended. In my opinion it was not that much better than my Rexing V1. Here is a new version. Check that one out as an alternative. However, some users say that Rexing has fake reviews on Amazon versus Viofo (maker of A119) does not. Both cameras will have some minor glitches once in a while.
And yes, the A119 is most recommended as the budget single cam. For even a smaller budget, the B1W is an alternative. THe 0906 is a budget dual cam, and the A129 Duo is recommended over that.
One other thing that I will add if you're looking for a camera is to make sure to get a dashcam optimized SD card, such as the Sandisk High Endurance. Dashcam place a lot of read/write cycles, so a regular SD card will fail more quickly. Fortunately, they are usually on sale and pretty cheap!
Depending on the camera, it's suggested that you take the dashcam down anyways due to the heat potentially melting the plastic casing around/inside the lens area. It can permanently alter the quality of video because of the warping.
I went from not having a dashcam, to using it every day. I take it down when not in use, it's really not that big a deal. It takes about as long to mount and plug in than it does buckling in.
I got a Rexing V1 3rd Gen and if your front window one mounts as easily as this you shouldn't have any problems.
