I wear a couple of "valuable" rings but they're not wedding/engagement rings. I am a firm proponent of ring dishes.
I have one at my desk at work and one in the bathroom next to the sink. I have a larger tray that I can put my phone in also, in the kitchen, but if my ring isn't on my fingers, it's in whichever dish I'm nearest to.
I don't like my rings to be too tight, so they are a bit more prone to coming off when my fingers get wet or soapy, and I don't like when they swell (when I'm walking or cooking or doing a lot of typing -- I like salt, and my fingers bloat, which is weird as hell).
I also know people who use ring holding necklaces to great success.
You can damage jewelry over time if you don't take off your rings when you're doing something very hand-intensive, so I think it's important to take your rings off on occasion, and having a designated place for them to go makes sure you don't lose them.
