Amazon is having a $25 deal on Rocketbook! I don't personally have one but I have always thought these were such a cool way to organize everything. The scannable tech and reusable quality makes it practical.

My daughter recently got me a RocketBook for my birthday. Might be something your friend would dig.
Congrats on your first day & good luck! Hope you have fun, sending you coffee vibes!
TL;DR, I love onenote & rocketbook, and Ill never go back. Google calendar is lit lol. F.lux is great for eye strain.

I know you said you currently use OneNote, but I honestly dont think I can use anything else. I love it so much lol. I dig it because I can print my slides from ucertify into onenote, and then use my ipad to annotate or draw later. I use my ipad air with the magic keyboard, and if I need to type, I can. I also love that I can access what I've done on any device, work laptop, personal laptop, gaming pc, phone, ect, and not be charged a (small) fee like Evernote for being logged into multiple devices. I agree, sometimes the sync gets a little wonky with onenote, but its not enough to drive me away.
I tried to get away from onenote with Notion, and I really really liked it, but a huge downfall for me personally is not being able to use my ipad to draw or take notes. I like the option of both too much. They were also in the spotlight for a bit for lacking in security, here's a post on their site addressing it: https://www.notion.so/Security-6c56b4854b624b0d8f36711018647f68
Do you like hand writing your notes? There's always Rocketbook, I loved using this for my math classes: https://www.amazon.com/Rocketbook-Everlast-Fusion-Letter-Size/dp/B07RTN4F7D/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=rocketbook&qid=1620018105&sr=8-7 And again, I would import my notes into OneNote and make any edits as needed. They upload as a photo and a pdf.
Google calendar is your best friend!!! I have adhd and its my central point of planning my entire life. Get your study plan and goals in there! It makes my life 100% easier.
And I totally feel you on the eye strain, I get migraines and it really sucks. I work in IT currently, doing about 45hrs a week on average, staring at the screen 85% of my work week. Coming home to study seriously makes my eyes want to explode, but what helps me just a little is using F.lux to dim my screen: https://justgetflux.com/ I know you can use window's night mode, but I like that F.lux is just in my taskbar and I can easily turn it on and off.
If my migraine or eye strain is just too freaking bad, Ill use my kindle paperwhite to read a book for class. I cant actually access any of the ucertify content, but I can at the very least read.
My honest advice? Stick with a method you feel comfortable with. For me, I tend to jump around platforms and trying to force myself to switch everything over into there, and a month later, I go right back to one note lol.
I just bought this for my boss. Hope this helps.
