You'll want the Roku Stick+, which just happens to be on sale basically everywhere for $55. You can get it via Roku, Target, Google, Amazon, etc. The current generation Stick+ is the only Stick+ they've made, so you shouldn't have issues finding the right version.
If you want to get it from Amazon: Click here
I agree with others that say the Shield is the best no-compromises solution. However, I've had excellent luck with my Roku Streaming Stick+. It direct-plays all my H.264 and 10-bit H.265 content. However, I don't have any fancy audio requirements like many others, so I can't speak to whether it can handle DTS-X, ATMOS, or whatever.
I have mine strapped to the back of my TV and connected via 5GHz WiFi to a router in the cabinet beneath the TV, which is more than enough to support 4k streaming.
You can get one on Amazon for $50.
I had an issue of watching RWBY on my tv. The PlayStation VRV app is garbage anyway.
Solution: Roku Streaming StickRoku Streaming Stick
For $30 currently on Amazon you can get a Roku streaming stick plus. Download app on phone, has private listening mode which uses Bluetooth headphones connected to your phone. Works great.

I think this can run Playshow , roku is something you plug into your HDMI port that let's a tv do more computer like stuff. Like apps and streaming service's. I looked it up and it can use Playshow but I'm not 100% sure. You should do your own research in your free time on it.
Go with This one. It's the cheapest device that features the power button and volume controls on the remote, this way you're not juggling remotes. It also has a Wi-Fi extender and 4K capabilities in case you upgrade to a 4K TV in the future.
If you wait until Black Friday you can probably save $20 dollars.
If you just want something cheap, I'd actually go with the standard Amazon fire stick which is $34.99 right now.
This is what I send to people who have lg or samsung tvs: Roku Streaming Stick+ | HD/4K/HDR... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075XLWML4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Those brands make excellent tvs with great displays, however streaming is not their strong suit.
Roku has an incredibly simple UI, almost like iOS navigation, up,down, left, right with a home and back buttons.
Long term, perhaps if they need a tv in the next couple of years, try to show them the built in roku TVs, the platform is very simple and has some brilliant options such as setting the tv to go to a specific input by default upon power on.
Fair point, I can only talk for my setup which is a roku streaming plus. I was not aware that it acts differently on android or Apple TV. I recommend getting a roku streaming stick plus off amazon for $50 as I know this works (literally just tested it this second with the TV off)
Roku Stick Plus comes with IR remote that will control the TV. I bought one for a customer who's just like your mom.
One I bought
Just buy a used one for about $50
I have some recommendations based on when I had almost your identical situation, but made less money (and your life will be no less fun):
There's very likely a lot more than that $350 that you can free up with very little increase in life suck. A single, childless person making $50,000 or more a year can very realistically live on half that if they're willing. Use that extra $350+ a month that you're no longer wasting to follow the //personalfinance prime directive.
Sort your debts by interest rate, and ANY extra money you have beyond necessities (real necessities...food/water/shelter) should be earmarked for whichever one is highest. If you mess up and buy a $5 coffee one day, don't beat yourself up for it too much, but it definitely should not be the norm or your planned spending.
*Edit again* I've tried to refrain from posting the MMM blog here because it's targeted more toward younger high-earners, but I think it could do a lot of good for someone like you.
This is a "Zero to Hero in One Blog Post" Summary with links to a ton of suggestions for saving, or you could start at the first article, like I did.
You can grab a Roku Stick pretty cheap. I would go that way and you’d be all set.
I just moved to Hungary and realized that I packed my Roku in the shipping container, which won't arrive for another month or so. No worries, I'll just pop on Amazon and order another one.
It's nearly $100 more expensive on German Amazon (125 Euros) vs US Amazon ($50). I just ordered it off the US Amazon and paid an extra $20 in shipping & import fees to have it sent to Hungary.

Roku's are great and the price is unbelievably low.

It would be 81$ for this Roku, for me. From Amazon US
WARNING!!! - The images that retailers are using show a mute button but just got one delivered and there's no mute button. The orange stripe on box will only say power and volume as opposed to the image the retailers are using that I've linked to below. I presume Roku is supplying them with the merchandising materials so someone seems to have messed up.

I should have trusted what the comparison thing says on the Roku website that said no mute but I figured there must have been an update with so many places showing a mute button.
The Roku Streaming Stick+ is very good if you like a very basic interface and only watch streaming content (no local files).
Personally I think the Fire TV Stick 4K is the best value for a streaming media player right now (and has been for the last couple of years). Excellent HDR format support, top notch wireless performance and the best remote of any streaming device.
The Shield TV is great but overpriced for what most people really want. You're really paying for the extra GPU power with the Shield and that only comes in handy for gaming and most people have a dedicated console for gaming at home.

Yeah, I've used Kodi before on a Raspberry Pi so I'm not unaware of it.
I already bought the Roku and it's set up in the living room. I mainly bought the Roku for my stepmom and since her native language is Chinese and she's not tech savy I thought it would be easier for her to use. I can just watch Netflix or Amazon on my laptop.
I've already been subscribed to Amazon for quite some time now, although Netflix is more recent. I'd say the great thing about them is convenience and streaming speeds. I've used certain plugins on Kodi before and I'd say the streaming speed wasn't as great as Kodi. But I do admit the whole well you have to subscribe to multiple streaming services to get all your shows is stupid.
For reference, these are the two products that I bought and my dad bought:
Hmm, this seems to agree with me the Roku is faster. I'm looking at the specs, and they're both quad core with 1GB of RAM, so maybe it's a difference in the software.
It pretty easy to get things from Amazon, Germany. https://www.amazon.de/dp/B075XLWML4
Okay thank you :) So this one will work with 5GHz WiFi then?
