1/2 of my 22 drives are external hdd’s are powered already (wd my books etc) but I have a ton of the powered by usb types (wd my passport) too and didn’t want it taking power from a pc that has 3 nvme’s and 4 raided ssd’s plotting and 4 hdd’s internal plus the gpu is mining eth.

this sub doesn't allow me to post short link, here is the full link:

Spend some money for a quality powered USB hub. It being powered externally is important, because most USB ports that aren't C with power delivery are limited on the amount of amperage they put out.
I got https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Aluminum-Switches-Included-HB-PU16/dp/B07KHRLSTT last year and it's been great; after having two $30-dollar hubs crap out on me. Buy once, cry once
An $80 16-port USB 3.0 hub will do what those do, for a lot cheaper. Plus that 2nd link is only a USB2 hub, which would be unbelievably slow for a full wipe/restore with a lot of devices connected to it.
Yes, I do it all the time, just use a hub with a decent brick power supply 90--100W not the lower powered ones with just the plug power supply at 24-36W. You risk HDD disconnecting if underpowered.
I have no trouble with this one.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07KHRLSTT?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
The one I use is the 7-port version of this one: https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Aluminum-Switches-Included-HB-PU16/dp/B07KHRLSTT/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1RP0QGOHD16F9&keywords=sabrent+usb+on+off&qid=1653716428&sprefix=sabrent+usb+on+off%2Caps%2C94&sr=8-4
That 16-port is kind of overkill, but it seems like the 7-port version isn't for sale anymore.
Hi thanks that’s in fact what I’ll do as we have lots of them around I was just looking at options. The one I tend use is
Sabrent 16-PORT USB 3.0 DATA HUB and Charger with individual switches [90 Watts] (HB-PU16) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07KHRLSTT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_53XBNVF163JQKQEJ0YV8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
As it’s high powered enough to work with even a few external drives.
Gotcha maybe try something like this? Sabrent 16-Port USB 3.0 Data HUB and Charger with Individual switches [90 Watts] (HB-PU16) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KHRLSTT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_QFM7CRXJJYP917HVD450?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 (obvi a better brand than amazon) Youd need the data hub the cheaper ones are just for charging
Like the previous poster suggested you can get a USB HUB with individual on/off switches. Now I have given you 3 options. Good luck.
This is the USB HUB I use.
Sabrent 16-Port USB 3.0 Data HUB... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KHRLSTT?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Good point! I was looking at this one:
Sabrent 16-Port USB 3.0 Data HUB and Charger with Individual switches [90 Watts] (HB-PU16) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KHRLSTT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_65VKEEP5HW7RPQV4CCFQ
I’ll see if they list that anywhere!
I actually haven't found USB-C hubs that are just "1 USB-C port to 16 USB-C ports". Reached out to our Apple System Engineer, and they don't have a good answer. Some smaller hubs, but nothing in the 10+ range.
Something like this is best I've found, but USB 3.0. I'll probably wait a few months in hope of a USB 4.0. But even so, if it's running at 5.0 Gbps, that's ~ 300 Mbps / device which would be pretty snappy , with the key hopefully being, reliable. Certainly be better than "imaging" over WiFi like we have been.
like this one? 16 ports $70

i have this one now.. but wondering if i should spring for the one you suggested..
This is what I use but I would prefer the USB ports in the back and the switches on top or the front.
Sabrent 16-Port USB 3.0 Data HUB... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KHRLSTT?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Hi, I have been using my usb hub (https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Aluminum-Switches-Included-HB-PU16/dp/B07KHRLSTT) to charge my new phone with usb cable. I know remaining time isnt fully accurate but it still takes way too long to charge like %20 in 2 hours.
Well these are the ones that work for me:
https://www.amazon.nl/gp/product/B07KHRLSTT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0797NZFYP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The only issue I've had with them is that when I connect my keyboard to the same hub, they give issues. But this is a self-built keyboard with custom firmware, probably it just has a bug that causes issues on the bus. Other devices connected at the same time works fine.
I use this.

I use a 16 port powered HUB.

Works well and is powered so can use it a wide range of externals including usb powered externals
Absolutely love this hub https://i.imgur.com/FtP4y3S.jpg
/u/dayone_27 I found this one:
https://www.amazon.com/-/es/Sabrent-cargador-conmutadores-individuales-HB-PU16/dp/B07KHRLSTT
90W in total power and 2.5A per port. External 2,5” HDD needs around 0.5A and around 5-10W if I’m not wrong…
I tried to use this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KHRLSTT but it didn’t work for me.
For the small price difference: buy a USB 3.0 hub. You will get tired of taking an hour to move a plot when you know 3.0 could do it in 20 min.
Actually looks like they list this one on the GitHub page with suggested hardware:
