I am aware of this setup. Shame I don't own this specific device. Still, I've tried it with a saitek command unit (similar idea, worse execution than G13). I didn't use it for long and I didn't deem it worthy for inclusion in the list. The main reasons were:
1) Thumbstick has 2 axes, 3D mouse has 6. That's 4 more axis that can be used for rotation, zoom and elevation and I love to have these axis on hand.
2) Thumbstick puts a lot of stress on my thumb, far more than the 3D mouse does. It killed the fun for me.
Actually, if you don't mind thumb stress and own a G13, that may be really great. After all 1) it's all highly personal and subjective and 2) I didn't claim to try it all, so maybe it's the real 11/10 for somebody.
Logitech G13 Advanced Gameboard is one. Called Gaming Keypads I guess.
You can click here and where it says customers who also viewed this item viewed.... Should have a buttload of different ones to view through.
Keep in mind that there are more than just this one on the market as well.
Theres the Saitek Cyborg
The Razer Orbweaver, Tartarus and Nostromo
The Delux T9
As well as The Warrior Gaming Keypad
Among others that appear and disappear from the market from time to time. It's all about what you are looking for in a game keypad.

What's that?
One handed kbd with a thumb joystick? I've tried saitek cyborg command unit for less than half an hour? That's only 2 axis, not as good as 5.
A gamepad? Two-handed ones are uncomfortable to hold with one hand (tried with DS4, lighter sixaxis, steam controller), one-handed are hard to find except for cheap chinese crap. 6DOF 3D mouse is still miles ahead.
